Hunter's Woods

Standing tall over the Forgotten Vale was the southern mountain, Mount Elona. This mountain was not just some landmass, it was alive, a sentient being. Over time it gathered to itself mortals who would protect the sacred mountain and in return protect them with her stone and power. The mountain was lush with thick forested woods at the base, as the altitude increases it becomes a mix of grassy cliffs and caves, before breaking into snow-covered peaks at the summit. This mountain is where the Guardians of Elona lived, and as they grew and resided around a place of such power, Elona's own power slowly became imbued within them. What secrets lie within the deep caverns of the mountain? And just what sort of power is this? The first Guardian of Elona stood alone for a very long time, a statue of a fox, once forgotten and lost. But the power within the mountain seeped into the stone and brought this fox to life. The first Guardian, and founder, leader of all the rest.

Sky Prompt: Day 1B

Gloss had lived on the mountain of Elona by herself for quite some time. She didn’t have any issue with this, she was a bit of an introvert anyway, but it did get pretty quiet all by herself. That is, when the spirit of Elona wasn’t speaking with her. “I have a quest for you my dear,” Elona spoke to Gloss. “Of course, what shall I do?” “There is a place, where the sky and sea meet,on the other side of my mountain. Go there and I will give you more instruction.” Gloss readily obeyed the command of her patron, and went to this place. There, she met a solid pink cat with the most unusual teal eyes. “This is Endyria, she will be one of my champions, but she is confused and needs to be taught the ways of the world, and the ways of my guardians.” Elona’s voice spoke softly in Gloss’ mind as she looked upon this young cat.
“Endyria?” Gloss called after her, and Endyria perked up. “Yes! That’s me, you… you must be Gloss, the pretty voice said she would bring someone to help me.” “It is I,” Gloss chuckled, “Come, let us rest at the base of the mountain and I will teach you some things.” Endyria readily followed, for she had met others like herself and those by the sea and those of the skies, but she felt a special pull toward the mountain. And when she heard that voice, she knew she belonged with the people of that place. “The voice that spoke to you, that is Elona, The Southern Mountain.” Gloss explained, “She is a source of great power, and her power resides within this mountain. We, the guardians chosen by her, are tasked with protecting the mountain from those who would harm or greedily take the power for themselves. And in return, Elona strengthens and provides for us. This mountain is sacred, and we must treat it and all on it with respect.” Gloss went on to explain how she had started out as a statue but had been given life by the power within the mountain, and how the mountain was an individual who had thoughts and feelings. “Are there any others aside from us two?” Elona asked, looking around. “No, not just yet, but I have a feeling that will soon change, but for now, I will teach you what I know, and we can learn together how to be the best guardians for our mountain.”

Sky Prompt 2B

As Gloss lead Endyria around the mountain, she brought her to a stone wall, and beside it, stood a large square shaped boulder. “This is where I was born, where I was brought to life.” Gloss told her, and Endyria leaned in to read the epitaph which had given her new mentor her name. “But, whoever first carved me from the stone must not have known the significance of this land.” The two walked closer to the stony cliff behind it, where Gloss drew back the vines and moss to reveal etchings. They depicted a scene of a beautiful feline, what looked like half lion half cat, and a few others at her side, and how there was a battle, and how the beautiful feline used her power along with the others to stop the evil and create the haven that was the Vale. The scene then showed how this power turned her into the mountain on which they stood, one of the cornerstones of the Vale. “Magnificent isn’t it?” Gloss said, enamored with the tale they could see carved in the cliffside. “Who knows how long this has been here, perhaps only Elona herself.” Endyria looked closer to the side of it though, it seemed as if some of the story continued, but had over time become worn away. “Gloss, I think there’s more. Look at these broken pieces over here.” The pink cat motioned to where a part of the cliff had crumbled, but as she lifted and turned over a few of the pieces, there were lines and etchings that could not have been made by the same erosion of the mountain. There were more carvings! “I… I can’t believe i’ve missed these.” Gloss said, disappointed in herself. “I guess I was so focused on learning and deciphering the tale thats here, I didn’t realize it continued.” “Come on! Lets see if we can put the pieces back together.” Endyria’s encouragement helped lift Gloss’s spirits as they collected the pieces and worked on the puzzle together. As they pieced things together they saw something rather unusual. One section was carved showing the very location on which they stood, but, there in front of it was the statue that once was Gloss, before she was brought to life. “Thats… thats you! Right? As a statue?” “It.. it has to be, but how is that possible? These carvings are ancient.” Gloss pondered the meaning of this, but Endyria was still excited with the challenge of piecing them together. “And look, there’s more after that too, here I think it continues under this big rock, help me lift it up!” The two work together and after a lot of straining they flip over the boulder, to reveal an almost entirely intact section of the mural, and at the center was carved a cat, shining in pink, perhaps some sort of rose quartz, an at the eye was the most vibrant teal sapphire they’d ever seen. (Not that either are very familiar with sapphires, but they knew this was something of high value) It was Endyria’s turn to fall silent as she gazed upon her likeness. Gloss looked between the two, she now realized there was much more to this event than she had imagined. (544/400)

Land Prompt 2A

Gloss gasps as she looks at the prophecy before her. This champion of pink stood with the mountain of Elona behind her, facing off against a giant foe. A titan. As the feeling of impending dread was just setting in, the felt the rumble of the quake even this far up the mountain. Her and Endyria rush back to the shore where the two strange groups from the sky and sea were setting up camp. They felt it too. Endyria walked off, pondering her role in all of this, and the foreigners kept to themselves as they trained. But Gloss was panicking. What could this terrible force be? What would it mean for the mountain, or even the Vale as a whole! Elona had saved their world in the past from an evil adversary, but that was before. Would she be able to save them once again? And what of these strange peoples, they seem to have an idea of what’s going on, whats to come, but would Elona save them as well? Gloss had to trust the prophecy that Elona had revealed to them. She had to trust that this “champion” Elona had brought to them would learn and grow in time to face this titan. But only time would tell, and so Gloss remained vigilant, keeping one eye to the sea while she continued to support her new companion. (231/200)

Sea Prompt 2A:

Endyria is new to this world. She has no memory of where she came from, of any relatives or friends, nothing before the moment she woke up at the edge of the mountain where the sky met the sea. And she’s not quite sure what to make of it all. She can speak and understand, but when it comes to memories themselves she doesn’t remember any place or event. How was she to fight this thing that was coming. Why did Elona choose her for this prophecy? Endyria lacked experience, and was filled with self-doubt. She’s not a natural leader, she’s no warrior, what could she do to help? But Gloss was there with her, she wasn’t alone anymore and with her supporting her from behind, maybe she could face off against this fated foe. Although she lacked confidence in herself, one thing Endyria did have a lot of was hope. Her hopeful demeanor shined out from within and lifted the spirits of all those around her. Endyria was hopeful that despite her fear of what was coming, if they worked together they could make it through. With Elona and Gloss behind her, and with the sky and sea peoples beside her, she knew they could face whatever this was. Endyria lacked experience, but she made up for it in hope and in courage. Sky Prompt 3A:

“They’re kinda cute” “They’re kinda annoying” Endyria and Gloss went back and forth about these creatures, but Gloss was a lot more experienced when it came to living stones. The two tried to ignore them at first, leaving the sky and sea peoples to deal with it, but as more and more of the little buggers snuck past and made their way onto land it slowly became an infestation. “Maybe we can just round them up in a big pen or pit or something, keep them out of the way?” Endyria said, “I don’t want to have to crush them or something, and they’re pretty hardy little guys being stone and all. Can’t we just, I don’t know, collect them up somehow?” “Maybe that’s an idea, I do know of a small crevice in the mountain not too far from the beach…” Gloss pondered, and so the two, with some help from the sea and sky people, created a line of barriers that funneled the smaller stone creatures into the crevice in the rock. “Out of sight, out of mind… right?” Little did they know that wouldn’t stay for long. The crevice was deep, but these little creatures weren’t opposed to working together. But for now, Gloss was right. Out of sight, out of mind. (215/200)

Sea Prompt 3B:

Endyria learned a lot from the sky and sea peoples. She learned about all sorts of technology and gadgets from the sky people, little things that sparked or moved or floated, things that made loud noises and mini explosions when they pulled the ‘trigger,’ things that sent the little rock creatures flying when hit. It was a lot to take in. And then the sea peoples taught her about their intricate swords and three-pronged spears they call ‘tridents’ and the beautifully crafted armor they made. All of these advancements left Endyria in awe, but they also left her feeling a bit anxious. The leader of the sea people, Neptune, had spoken with Endyria and arranged a set of armor for her to be crafted, in preparation for the looming titan he was convinced about. It would still take time to be forged, and in the meantime, they lent her some so that she could train and get used to wearing it. The weight of the armor hung on her shoulders much in the way the prophecy of her saving them from this creature did. But she couldn’t focus on that now, she had to train, to practice, to gain experience she’s never had before. And so she did, she practiced not only with the different groups' strange weapons and technology, but she also practiced sparring with them one on one, to build her strength. That is what she enjoyed the most. Sure the gadgets were fun, but getting to meet all these new people and to work and sweat together is what meant the most to Endyria. She learned from each one’s experiences. One of the sea lions taught her how no matter your size, you can use your own body weight to build more muscle if you follow these few exercises. A sky hyena taught her if she shifted the weight on her feet a bit she’d be less stiff and less likely to be pushed over completely. Another cat taught her his trick for fighting opponents taller than you, something Endyria was able to put to use when she sparred with a lioness. All these little tricks and tips, individual techniques and strategies that were unique to each person she trained alongside. Endyria did not have much experience of her own, but through learning from so many different people she was able to benefit from the training so much. And all the while she made so many friends, comrades in this time of uncertainty. With so many capable people beside her, the weight of the prophecy didn’t feel so heavy. And thanks to her growing muscle, neither did the armor.

Filler prompt: (basic use because I missed the cutoff time :C )
"What is your hero doing to help against the rock creatures? Are they actively fighting them, or dismissing them to focus on their training? Why?"

Endyria didn’t mind the little rock guys too much. Gloss seemed rather bothered by them, but like some people with mosquitoes, it seemed like the rock creatures were drawn toward Gloss more. Maybe it was because she herself had been stone at one point the little guys think she’s still one of them? Endyria chuckled at the thought. “Maybe once this whole thing is over, once the titan is gone, maybe these guys will be nice, maybe they can live on this land with them peacefully.” Endyria hoped so. The sky and sea people were able to keep most of them at bay, leaving Endyria to focus on training, but now and then one or two would sneak past and try to get at them in the middle of a spar or exercise. Some of those she trained with would toss or kick them across the beach, and although the little guys didn’t seem bothered by it, Endyria couldn’t help but feel bad. They didn’t seem evil, just, driven to do something that Endyria and the others (especially Gloss) didn’t really love. Like instinct. Endyria hoped that it was something to do with the titan that caused it, because if it was it meant that maybe these little guys could be free once it was dealt with. Or at least, maybe they could be at rest and everyone could have some relief from this little plague they’ve been enduring.

Land Prompt 4C:

“Endyria, I need to speak with you.” All those in the sparring ring could feel the weight behind those few words. Endyria said a few small goodbyes and waves before following her mentor out from the sea folk training grounds. “While you’ve been training, I’ve been able to finish piecing the prophecy mural back together. Come, I think you need to see it for yourself.” Endyria scratched at a spot on her back as she followed Gloss back up the mountain and to the wall of prophecies they had seen. As the approached the stones they could see the prophecy of Elona before them, and placed meticulously was the reconstructed prophecy they had found piece by piece. The depiction was similar. In Elona’s prophecy there stood a beautiful feline of onyx stone who faced off against a great evil. “This was before the Vale existed,” Gloss explained, “The world was under threat of total destruction.” They looked once more at the carving, alongside the onyx feline was a few others, what looked like lions, standing next to Elona and supporting her. “These were the ancient ones of the past, other great heroes. Though not as great as Elona.” Gloss said, filled with pride for her queen. They continued to gaze at the prophecy as Gloss was filled with the power to interpret its history. “The world had little hope, even if they worked together it was not enough, as they trained and worked to find some solution the destruction ravished the world around them. It grew closer and closer until there was one valley left. But Elona would not let this place be destroyed. With the power within her, and with the combined powers of all those supporting her, she was able to create a shield around the Vale.” Gloss gestured to a section of the carving where it showed a beam coming from the onyx feline and spreading out over the land. “She separated the Vale from that dying world, preserved as a haven, untouched by the corruption.” “Thats amazing!” Endyria piped in, “She saved all of this?” “Yes, but it was not without cost. In order to keep it safe, to keep it separate, the Vale had to be forgotten by all others, and those who chose to live within, though they would be filled with the magical power of the vale, were not allowed to leave.” Endyria nodded, understanding how that must have been difficult for some. “But that was not all, Elona herself was affected. The power overtook her as she used so much of it to save this place and to remove the corruption, her physical body couldn’t handle that much power. And so, she became the mountain before us, forever standing and shielding us with her shade.” Gloss gazed happily at the mountain to which they called home, to which she had promised to protect. “But… what does this all mean for me? Why is there a picture of me on this other one?” Endyria asked, pointing to the second, reconstructed mural with the pink feline of quartz. “Well, the prophecy is similar. This pink cat, well… you, you alongside people of the sky,” Gloss pointed at feathered ones in the background, “and people of the sea,” She then pointed to some carvings of creatures with fins. “Face off against this titan which is coming. The prophecy shows that Elona will send some of the power you need from the mountain into you, and you will grow to face the trials ahead. Look, even now the gemstone has developed these white patches, just as you have!” Endyria looked once more at the once solid-pink gemstone carving that now had milky patches of white, just like Endyria had developed as she trained. “It seems this prophecy is a reflection of Elona’s, we can only wait and see how it all plays out. But if history does repeat itself as many say, I have confidence that Elona will help us and save this world again But this time, it seems she’ll do it through you.” Endyria pondered these things as she left Gloss to return to the sky people for training. Sky Prompt 4B:

The leader of the sky people there on land told Endyria they needed reinforcements. Endyria nodded, thinking that was probably a good idea. If the quaking in the ground was any indication, whatever it was seemed to be slowly drawing closer. And it was big. What Endyria didn’t understand at first, was that Allana was telling HER to go get the reinforcements. Endyria looked up at the chain connecting the floating islands far away. It was a long way up… and that means, its a long way down once you’re up there. Endyria looked back toward the mountain, thinking if she should get Gloss for support. “No, she’s too busy, I shouldn’t bother her.” She thought, and followed the band of sky people back toward the giant chain. “Don’t worry Endyria, we’ll catch you if you slip!” They tried to comfort her, but even if she believed them it didn’t really comfort her too much. She’d rather not fall at all. She started off slow, climbing each chain link as it came. They were giant, keeping the connection between the land and the sky island, she imagined you would need a very strong chain. But progress was slow, Endyria was a small cat, and trying to climb these metal chains was precarious. With time, and lots of encouragement from her feathered escorts, she made it to the top. But as she got there, that itch she had in the middle of her back, between the shoulders, got even worse. It had bothered her the whole way there, but here it was amplified even more. Maybe she was allergic to this place? She tried to ignore it as she looked around the Sky City. “This place is incredible!” Endyria jumped up and down as her feathered escorts chuckled, they’d been pretty isolated up there for so long, so it was nice for them to see someone get so excited to visit. Many of the citizens treated her like a VIP as she went from the docks to the workshop even all the way up to the towers. Everyone was so nice (well, perhaps aside from that one fox at the docks) but Endyria was about to lose her mind. The itching on her back was just getting worse and worse, what was happening to her! They made their way over to where the healers were, hoping to find some help for her, but as she steps further she comes down with a violent case of the shivers. “W-whats happening?” Endyria asked, but none of the sky people had an answer, they’d never seen something like this! Right as the healers ran to meet and help her, the shaking stopped. They turned around to see Endyria standing there, a pair of iridescent purple and teal wings stretched out from her back. “Well… that’s definitely a new one. At least the itching stopped, and I guess it’ll be easier to explore this place now…” (491/400)
