I love these examples, and I think they're great.
However, I have another concern: How would filter words work in signatures? Could it just block out the word/words/phrase in black/grey or just hide the sig (like the post example above)

As for triggering images in signatures (like an image from a source that triggers my cptsd) I would just block..

for images, yeah i do not think it would be possible to filter, so blocking would be the best way around that ofc.

and for words in signatures, maybe it could look like a hidden forum post which you click in order to see the sig? i am not entirely sure EHHH example below v

also, im adding a poll rn ^_^

i think for words in sigs it could either censor the word like on discord where you then click the black censor bar to open it, or just hide the signature altogether like halo showed above!

however, i also dont know (now that i think more) if the mods will implement this because i think it might cause some drag on the servers and make the site slower to load :(

yeah im not so sure abt signatures being hidden honestly, but i think it'd be fairly easy to implement this feature on oekaki and forum posts. just like take the coding from blocked users and edit it.

im not sure how signature hiding would rlly be possible, then again im not really a great coder. i may think up some way it could be added, though. for now maybe hiding signatures in the settings could help if too many of them are making u uncomfortable.

Support! A few things to consider, though:

  • The entire post shouldn't be hidden--otherwise, people would use words they know are triggers for enough people (or, worse, words that they know are triggers for our moderators) to hide rule-breaking posts and make it take longer before someone realizes it breaks the rules or longer before a moderator can get around to it. (This isn't me being cynical; this is me being realistic on a site like CS) This is similar to one of the reasons proper spoiler tags are a denied suggestion.

  • Signature (and, by extension, avatar) blocks could be a separate suggestion. I believe that there's a thread already for blocking certain signatures but I can't find it... I know it's gotten support already with specific reasons cited being that some of us had already turned off all signatures or put some users on our block lists solely because of certain signatures. (Blocking entire signatures is conceptually different from blocking entire posts because any user's signature is the same across all of their posts, whereas every post in theory is different.)

  • At the risk of sounding like an algorithm, you may be interested in the Epilepsy filter for oekaki suggestion, too
Spread the word to end the word, because discrimination based on perceived or actual IQ/"intelligence" is no better than discrimination based on race, gender, etc.

Context, consistency, and clear antecedents are golden.
I neither read nor speak between the lines. But I will analyze your language.

that's true, i hadn't taken that into consideration. however, i believe that poses around the same risk as a moderator blocking a user and being unable to see certain posts. there likely will be other moderators who have little or no blacklisted words. although i have been thinking of options other than entirely hiding posts. i do think it would be nice to have two options.

1) hide the post entirely beneath a cover, as i'd stated previously
2) hide only the blocked word in the post

moderators could likely use the second option in order to continue moderating the site without viewing their triggers. there could be something that you check to change the way that blacklisted words are hidden.

  • i do think hiding certain sigs and icons would be a good feature. maybe a button on profiles that asks to hide signatures or profiles?

Ooh, that's a good idea, having a toggle for if you want to only censor certain words or if you want to block out the relevant posts entirely. 👍 Could potentially be expanded so that you could set it per individual word, too, but a blanket toggle would probably be a good enough solution!

for those who are on desktop, you can actually do this with extensions! most browsers have some sort of swear filter extension you can add which you can use to hide potentially triggering words. We've used "Advanced Profanity Filter" in the past.

It doesn't hide the entire post, but if you're triggered or squicked by a specific word, that's good to keep in mind!
