Buckstar crawled his way back through the thorn wall barrier, gently carrying fresh herbs in his jaws as he entered the camp. Some chuckling came a few taillengths away, as Buckstar spotted two cats sitting in the clearing. Ashcloud and Jaggedmoon, laughing, clearly at him. “What a hunt, Buckstar. Seems you’ve really fed the clan today, nice job.” The she-cat, Ashcloud, purred with amusement. Jaggedmoon couldn’t help but huff slightly, “Oh don’t tease our old, fraile Leader, Ashcloud. We know he’s not capable of catching real prey anymore.” The tom said with a teasing grin. The young Buckstar narrowed his eyes, glaring sharply at the two. “I only went for a walk along the mountain, I wasn’t hunting anything in particular.” He lied, making his way to the Healers den to store the herbs. But he could continue to hear the two cats laughing behind him. The Leader only rolled his eyes, unhurt by their words. Buckstar turned back to face them from the Healers den, “Go out for a hunt then, you two. Show me you can do better.” He said, eyeing Ashcloud with a smirk. He knew the young she-cat would always be up for a challenge. Almost instantly, Ashcloud’s eyes lit up with excitement. “We’ll surely collect a better prey haul then you.” She purred, already on her paws and heading towards then thorn barrier gap. Jaggedmoon didn’t have to be told twice, stretching for a moment before following behind the young Commander.

“Slow down Ashcloud, or you’ll scare all the prey away. If Buckstar hasn’t already done that for us.” He said, taking in Buckstars older scent. It appeared he had headed down to the closest plateau to camp. Ashcloud paused, seeming to also notice where the leaders scent had headed. “We should head upwards instead, towards the trees. Surely there’s birds trying to feed on the ground. Or perhaps even a hare, hiding in the brush.” She commented, her mouth watering with the idea of fresh prey. Winter definitely wasn’t the greatest time of year for the cats, as she could easily see Jaggedmoons ribs. And she was sure her ribs were slightly exposed, but likely not as much as her hunting partners’. The cats always ate in a feeding order, from highest ranking to lowest ranking. So of course, Buckstar was doing better off than the others. But he certainly wasn’t overweight by any means, and did his best to only take a fair share for himself. Being the second highest ranking cat, she hardly missed a meal herself. But when the prey stocks were low, her own guilt lead her to eating less than she should, to save more for the others.

Ashcloud let Jaggedmoon take the lead, deciding she didn’t want her excitement of Buckstars challenge to dull her senses. It was better if the most experienced hunter went first. The side of the mountain was quite steep, the snow making it harder to judge where their pawsteps should fall. One wrong step, and it could cause a small avalanche. Luckily today the snow was firm and crusted over on the top, making it easy to gently walk across. But Ashcloud and Jaggedmoon still felt themselves heavily leaning left and against the mountain as they walked, not wanting to risk taking a tumble down the slope.

As they reached the top of the peak, Jaggedmoon paused and looked for the best point of entry. There were many different peaks across the mountain, but each held different terrain and places the prey hid. This peak held trees and brush, but also many towering rocks. Rabbits would often feed on the bark of the trees here, and birds would peck underneath the trees in search of food. Jaggedmoon felt the wind push against him, taking in an old scent of rabbit, and possibly the fresh smell of bird. He crept up behind a large rock, the young Commander following in his footsteps, waiting to see what their options were as they checked their senses.

As the apprentices ventured out into the wild, the mentors followed close behind. It was still dangerous, even within clan borders. All five cats kept a keen eye out for the slightest movements that would ail their search in prey, waiting patiently for the opportunity to arise.
Suddenly, a cry shrieked in the sky.
"Hawk. It's spotted us, quick, get under cover." Badgerstar ordered. Badgerstar stayed out, hoping to lure down the hawk. If this worked, this hawk could feed many mouths. The hawk decided to make its move, and started it's descent. Badgerstar gave a knowing glance to Lynxtuft, they both were on the same page. As the hawk soared down, getting ever closer, the cats bunched up, ready to pounce.

The hawk grabbed fro Badgerstar, but Badgerstar dodged in time. At the same time, Lynxtuft has jumped onto the hawk, making an example out of it for the apprentices.
"Now that," Lynxtuft caught their breath. "That is how you hunt. All in a good day's work!"

Leaving Valerius behind to focus on healing, Asiya ventured back out into the tall golden grass. After spending a day with Valerius to ensure he would be fine on his own, he told her where this other feline was hidden; just past the line of trees beyond Aspen Grove's borders. Due to the clan's odd location, she didn't have to worry about trespassing onto another clan's territory as there weren't any around for a week's distance. Asiya had decided to allow another member to join, though it was risky. She couldn't build her clan without taking any risks, though.

As she neared the edge of Sekinek field, she paused, taking in the air around her before stepping through the strip of trees. It took her a good few moments before she neared the location Valerius said Theresia - the new recruit - was hiding out at. There was a large oak tree with a hollowed out base, moss growing along its roots. Asiya wondered how the thing was still alive, but she had more important matters to attend to. Carefully, she put a paw down before letting out a soft meow; she was in a more cautious stance, though not threatening.

To Asiya's surprise, striking green eyes peered out from darkness of the tree's center. Asiya straightened, running over what to say in her mind to convince this stranger that she was no harm. "Greetings," she started, swallowing nervously, still not sure what to say. "I'm Asiya, I have a clan a little ways over there," she nodded her head to the right, in the direction of her home. "I have a friend that said you would be a good choice to recruit. Would you be interested in joining?"

The stranger simply scoffed, causing Asiya to grow slightly irritated. "Why would I join you? What do you have to offer me?" Asiya almost felt like this bridge could be burning before it was even built, however, she took a deep breath and tried a different approach.

"Valerius suggested that you were an excellent hunter, something we both really need right now. He's sick and is unable to hunt, and I'm not able to catch enough food for the both of us." With this, the stranger straightened a little, the snarky expression disappearing. "We both need your help if he is to survive this winter; the prey is scarce and I'm no expert at hunting." Asiya was done here; if the stranger was to join, she'd have to decide now. Turning away, she began to journey back into her territory.

"I can help." Turning around, Asiya finally got to see who she had been talking to these past several minutes. It was a mottle rosetted feline; she had a very lean and strong build, perfect for hunting. Smiling, Asiya turned away.

"Let's hunt, then."

The rabbit was heavy in Blueberrynose's jaws, which was surprising considering it was now leaf-bare. However, despite the season arriving, the patrol had good luck on this day. Within a few paces, Tempestslash managed to find a mouse and carried it beside the other she-cat. Blueberrynose purred her congratulations, and Stormswirl even grinned at her sister. The patrol was very lucky compared to last time, and they hoped their luck would continue.

Blueberrynose already had her jaws full, but her eyes went wide at the sight of some familiar herbs. Handing her catch to Embersnow, she and Stormswirl picked out some willow bark and sorrel. Cloverflame would be absolutely delighted to have more herbs in his storage!

Embersnow carried the rabbit dutifully, but she accidentally dropped in on the ground when her mouth opened in shock and she spotted something in the bushes. Before anyone could scold her for being so careless, she brought her finding to the other cats and boasted about how she had found one of the most important things! The others rolled their eyes, knowing that everything was equally useful to everyone in the clan and on the patrol.

"I wonder if anyone else will join our clan now!" Embersnow cheered, carrying the item in her jaws and trotting beside her friends. The clan was already quickly growing, but the thought of another member was exciting.

Stormswirl was still leading the patrol, both the willow bark and the sorrel in her jaws. Tempestslash proudly carried her mouse, as little and scrawny as it was. Blueberrynose had the rabbit in her jaws, a little dirty from being dropped by Embersnow. Luckily, the forest ground didn't have any snow yet and the skies seemed to be clear enough for the rest of the day.

Blueberry purred with amusement and joked, "You better hope that we catch some more prey." The sisters began laughing and gave each other a knowing look. Although the two hadn't spoken a word to each other during the whole patrol, Stormswirl and Tempestslash noticed a new sense of closeness. The latter she-cat turned her gaze away first, her pride still brimming. She wouldn't be the first to bend, but perhaps her sister would so they could be together again.

The patrol returned to camp and dropped their prey off on the fresh-kill pile. Stormswirl headed to the medicine cat den and gave the herbs to Cloverflame, who was very grateful for their lucky finds. Embersnow gave the special item to Shellstar and dipped her head to the leader.

Still filled with excitement, the patrol headed out again in hopes of more luck.

Kestrelspeck bounded up to Smokestorm, excitement fluffing up her fur. He chuckled and flicked his tail tip, signaling for the other cats to follow as they made their way out of the camp. Sagefluff cuffed Softpetal over the ear as the she-cat padded over to Maplefeather. The fluffy Gatherer fell in line behind Olivebranch, who was behind Kestrelspeck and Smokestorm. The floofy tom kept a steady trot as the clan cats entered the lush forest. Up until sunhigh, everything was going smoothly. The grey tom and his close friend, Kestrelspeck playfully bantered, while Sagefluff kept a lookout for a leaf of daisy and Olivebranch listened for the small animals. The group of cats mindlessly wandered through the territory, ending up at the abandoned Twoleg den, the camp for the grounded birds surrounded by a silver wall. (chicken coop + old farm) Smokestorm barked at the felines to stop, carefully crouching and stalking around the grounded birds, their white feathers and
beady eyes on edge.

"Just don't disturb them," the grey tom instructed. He led the cats away, urging Sagefluff to stop admiring the birds. The sun still hung somewhat high in the sky, telling the animals that they had to survive a couple more hours until nightfall. Smokestorm led his patrol to the rock and puddle they stopped at last time, letting the weaker Gatherer rest up.

"Let's split up. I want Sagefluff to go with Kestrelspeck and I'll go with Olivebranch. That way we'll have one Hunter with each group. Sagefluff, keep a lookout for daisies, cause we need Acornfleck back on his duties." The cats nodded, drank some clear water, and Sagefluff and Olivebranch ate some scraps they had carried. Finally, they all split off, eyes peeled for anything useful. What will these curious cats find on their journeys?

the dogrun

as she stepped along the edge's of her new territory, she made sure to stay alert for any prey that may be nearby. after all, if she were to start up a new clan, she'd need to make sure to stock up on food.

thankfully for her, there didn't see to be any other dogs in the area around her. she'd hate to run into one of those things again. at least for today, when so much had happened already.

although the molly was unable to find any prey, she did manage to stumble upon some scraps! houndstar had barely noticed it and had almost passed by it entirely before it caught her eye. though it didn't look like much remained of it, she decided to bring the scraps along with her. it was still food, after all, and houndstar wasn't sure when she'd find her next meal in this unfamiliar area. (+1fp, +1xp)

as she continued walking along the borders, houndstar's eyes fell upon a patch of herbs nearby. though she wasn't very familiar with the herbs in the area around her, she decided that it wouldn't hurt to bring some along with her. carefully, she grabbed a few to carry in her jaws before moving on. it wasn't long into the patrol that embersnow was able to spot a flash of movement from the corner of her eye. she turned around, her ears perked, only to see a squirrel only a few feet from where she was. she crept forward silently, her gaze focused on the creature in front of her. she had almost gotten close enough to pounce when she heard a twig snap under her paws, causing the squirrel to lift its head, its eyes wide with fear. within only a few moments, it had managed to scurry up a nearby tree and completely out of embersnow's reach. the molly's tail lashed in frustration, giving a small shake of her head. after a couple moments, embersnow rejoined the others, disappointed with her lost catch.

fortunately, the patrol had the good luck of coming across a large patch of herbs soon after. excited with their find, the group grabs as many herbs as they can to carry with them. while they hadn't had much luck with prey, at least they had found some herbs to bring back to camp! (+1 yarrow, +1 alder bark, +1 stinging nettle, +1 deadly nightshade)

the patrol had continued to be fairly calm until tempestsplash suddenly paused in her tracks, her eyes narrowed. "I scented a fox. it doesn't seem to very far from us, either." she hissed. stormshadow lifted her nose into the air for a moment before nodding, confirming that there was indeed a fox nearby. the patrol paused for a moment, weighing their options on what they should do. would they pursue the predator in hopes of chasing it off of their territory, or leave it alone?

Smokestorm and Olivebranch made their way to the forest. Determined to find something, the treaded the forest floor carefully and quietly. Using their hunter's instinct, Olivebranch smelled a mouse through the trees. Smokestorm being the hunter, took the lead, following the scent downwind as carefully as possible.
Moving swiftly, Smokestorm made the clean kill. Mouths would be fed.

The Tribe of Singing Wind
Flower exited his den, scanning the camp. Snow was already up, along with Sun, Pebble, Morning dew, and Cloud. Snow and Sun were chatting about the weather, while Morning dew and Cloud were sitting in the Healer's den going over basic healing. Flower felt worried about their situation. Cloud wanted to know everything there was to herbs and Starclan, but Morning dew wasn't knowledgeable in either of those subjects enough to help her. She was a quick learner, already memorizing many herbs. Pebble was sitting near the den's entrance, watching his sister's paw sort through dried herbs with the help of Morning dew. Flower yawned and stretched out, walking down to Snow. ``Snow, can you lead a patrol this morning? And I want Pebble and Cloud to come with you, they need to learn the territory``, The leader meowed to the white she-cat. She nodded to Flower and began recruiting cats for the patrol, waking up a few more cats before leaving.

``Isn't this exciting Cloud? We get to explore the meadow!``, Pebble mewed as he jumped around the camp's exit. Cloud sat quietly, shifting her paws awkwardly. ``Yeah, I suppose...``, the small novice meowed quietly. Snow walked up to Cloud, giving her a lick behind the ear. ``Be brave, be strong, and have faith. You need to get some fresh air and get out of that cramped den every once and a while``, the white cat spoke to her kit. Snow had brought the two to camp one day, but no one really asked where specifically they came from. Nevertheless, the raised them as her own and cares for them just as if she had given birth to them herself. Petal and Bird exited the camp and met up with the others, both of them excited as Pebble for their first patrol. ``Okay, three of us will be focusing on hunting, the other three will check for threats. Don't forget to look for herbs as well. Bird, Petal, and Cloud will hunt, Sun, Pebble, and myself will check the territory. Cloud, stay close to Bird, Pebble, stick with your mentor. My group will take the lead, and remember to all stick together, we don't want anyone getting loss``, Snow ordered the patrol.

Snow lead with Sun and Pebble close to her. She trusted Sun to teach Pebble well, so she mainly stayed to herself during the patrol. She was tasting the air, smelling hints of new growth under the dead vegetation. ``New leaf will be here soon``, She thought. ``We needed that, with how many new cats have joined the tribe...``. She padded along, occasionally looking back to check on Pebble and Cloud. Pebble was attempting his best crouch, ready to spring to attack. Sun was giving him feedback, a ``steady your paws`` here and a ``crouch lower`` there. Cloud was practicing her hunter's crouch, but it was obvious she was lost in thought. Her mind always seemed to be somewhere else when she wasn't surrounded by piles of bitter herbs. ``Lower your tail, Cloud, with it sticking that high up Flower will be able to see you from camp!``, Petal teased. Snow smiled softly and continued checking the boarder, placing scent markers along the way. ``These new members are a blessing from Starclan, the Tribe of Singing Wind is growing bigger and bigger. If only we could find a Healer...``.

Thrushslip, Leafpaw, and Tansypetal headed back through the tunnels and into the nursery where Snowshell, Cherrykit, and Peachkit were waiting with excitement. Leafpaw stayed at the prey pile, setting her to catch down as Snowshell approached them both with a happy and hopeful expression. "H-how did it go?" She stuttered as the kits tackled Tansypetal and Thrushslip welcomingly, "Fine. Leafpaw caught the biggest squirrel and Thrushslip found some hawkweed." She murmured, setting down the hawkweed Thrushslip had found. "We need to get back out there but-" Snowshell interrupted her, "Can we chat back there for a moment? I'd like to discuss these little ones- or, not so little ones." Tansypetal and Thrushslip exchanged confused glances, "Erm sure..." Thrushslip whispered, "Leafpaw, watch these two for me, we'll be right out." Leafpaw giggled, "Are you FINALLY going to tell her?" Tansypetal looked even more confused and flustered, "Tell me what?" She asked. Thrushslip blushed and looked at his paws as Snowshell stepped forward, "That doesn't matter right now." Thrushslip flashed her an anxious but thankful glance ad returned to his normal stance. "The kits, they're getting older now and they turned six moons a few days ago. Shouldn't they be apprentices soon?" Tansypetal lifted her gaze excitedly and Thrushslip was proud, "Absolutely, thank you for reminding me." Tansypetal mewed, Snowshell bowed her head politely, "Of course." Tansypetal trotted side by side with Thrushslip, their pelts brushing as they approached the stone ledge at the top of the entrance to the clan. She climbed up and yowled, "All cats gather under the high ledge for an Ocean Clan meeting." She sat and curled her tail around her neatly around herself as all her clanmates gathered under the ledge for the meeting, including the excited apprentice-ready Cherrykit and Peachkit. "As you know... Peachkit and Cherrykit are now a few days older than 6 moons old." Peachkit's eyes widened in surprise and Cherrykit let out a squeal of excitement. "So, Peachkit and Cherrykit, do you promise to train hard and uphold the warrior code?" They both nodded politely, Cherrykit's tail twitching excitedly. "Then Cherrykit you and Peachkit will be known as Peachpaw and Cherrypaw. Cherrypaw, please step forward." Cherrykit bounced forward with her head high with pride. "Snowshell, you will teach Cherrykit. Pass on your street smarts and exciting personality to her." Cherrypaw bounced forward and touched noses with her apprentice, purring with pride. "And Peachpaw, you will be taught by Thrushslip. May he pass on his kindness, calm thinking, and loyalty." Thrushslip looked up at Tansypetal with love but he tried to hide his fondness for her." Tansypetal purred but then blinked and shook her head, "Meeting dismissed." She hopped from rock to rock until she reached the ground. "Thrushslip, would you like to eat with me?" Thrushslip purred and nuzzled her cheek, "Absolutely. Then we can take out the new apprentices." They ate and chatted, blushing from time to time. "Thrushslip." She whispered shyly, "Why don't we go out for a bit sometime?" Thrushslip's eyes widened, "Erm, ofc-course." Tansypetal clutched her head and screamed internally. "Sorry, that kind of..." She trailed off and finished her squirrel. "N-nevermind." Thrushslip sighed and followed her, "It's alright, Tansypetal. Maybe some other time." They napped for a while and then set out with the others.
