she could only dream.
dream for a chance to be a mother, once more. but, that wish.. would never come true. because.. the faeries.. they stole her son. stole away a lifetime of waking up to those ocean eyes… gemstones that glistened periwinkle beneath a thousand stars.

like butterflies fluttering across gently rolling hills, the dreamy falsetto of dancing lights was the perfect illustration of faerie. a realm, alive with gorgeous creatures.. the ones who stole her son, a lifetime ago.

she had been so desperate.. hysterical when her unborn son had fallen ill. she had pleaded with the fairies, begged them to heal her son.. and the fairies granted her wish.. but the price was the newly-born kit in her embrace.

heartbroken, she retreated back to those spires of crystal, becoming governess, caretaker of her stolen kit. but, she could never tell him her secret. their secret.

splash!

soft gasps adorned the melody of silence as a shiver danced through her … a reminder that this wouldn’t last forever. the time would come when the faeries would say their farewells, along with cosmo. her beautiful son.
but, together or apart.. she would love him with a broken heart. always.

cool water swished at his paws, rippling. a wisp of lilac twirled, circling teasingly around his tail. he whipped around, paws outstretched. aha! it wouldn’t escape this---

the will-o-wisp vanished.

cosmo huffed. all this time here, and he still couldn't catch those mischievous creatures. he glanced to the molly by his side. but, he could still fool around with eirene.

splash!

he grinned at her frantic scramble to attention. so much more fun than the faerie princess. not to say the princess wasn’t nice. except, maybe… uptight. wasn’t that what the other faeries said? they talked lots for tiny, fluttering creatures. like lots.

he had a secret, too.
one he could never tell. there was a reason eirene was the best caretaker he ever had.

she was his mom.

the faeries talked, and… he found out things. things he wasn’t supposed to know. and secrets were secrets for a reason, right? if the faerie princess found out…

eirene could get in trouble. and he may never see her again.

he snuggled close, pressing a nose into her soft fur.
but he had a plan. a good one. he just needed to wait.

for now, they were together. together, but apart.
