《 Origins 》Long ago in Kawachi, Japan, there lived an elderly mage. His grandson, a feeble young man, had unfortunately stricken ill. The mage realized this was no simple fever, but a curse that had been laid upon his family by demons who he'd had conflict with in the past. He knew, unfortunately, that his power was no match for them.
At a loss on what to do, he could only entertain the child while searching for a remedy. He instructed this boy to draw a guardian, which will watch over him from evil spirits while he slept. Thus, the first Kuonling was born.
No one knows how this story has ended, but the only known fact is that the mage wanted to spread that joy to other children who may be troubled or lonely, and he's spread his magic across the whole world so that these kuonlings could be created.
《 Quick Facts 》Average HeightKuonlings very vastly in size, simply because they're born from imagination. They can be as small as 10 inches tall in height, or as large as 20 feet in height.
Average LifespanSo long as a Kuonling's scroll is intact, kuonlings will live on for a very long time. Sometimes, when they feel fulfilled, they will go to the mage's house to burn their scrolls and "pass on" to the next life.
Litter Size/Breeding InfoKuonlings mate through a special ritual of ink and paint. A paired couple will travel back to the old mage's house, where a new tenant resides, and goes through such a ritural to have offspring. Because they don't follow our same construct of time, offspring are created as adults.
Kuonlings may have up to 2 offspring at a time before the magic runs out, then they must wait a time period before they may mate again.
《 Key Features 》
ScalesEvery kuonling has at least a small plate of scales on its body. It's used mainly for protection, but also can be seen as a trait in which kuonlings show off to potential partners.
ScrollThe most important feature of a kuonling is its scroll. To create one, a child draws their friend onto paper (or in some areas, cloth, bark, leather, etc.) and if they believe strong enough, their Kuonling will come to life. These drawings don't degrade naturally, but if a scroll is burned or torn up into many little pieces, the kuonling will no longer exist.
Enlarged TeethMost kuonlings (with exceptions) have a set of enlarged teeth. While these creatures don't exactly need to eat to live, they usually enjoy meat. And so, those large teeth were made for tearing.
PhasingWhile most kuonlings do not have the capability to be invisible, they are all able to phase through objects since they're partly a creation of the imagination. This is especially helpful with huge dogs, otherwise, they'd blow through the roof of a building.
