Welcome to the Pixel Forest! We are a user-made adoptable where you can adopt species such as Squirrels, Squiks, Squittens, and Squinx. This UMA has operated under a few different names -- originally Pixel Squirrels from 2013-2019, and more recently PS Adoptables from 2020-2026. But at our core we are the same community, just with a little refresh! ♥

Thread Lore
First off, why are the earlier threads called "Pixel Squirrels"? Our very first thread from 2013 was known as Pixel Squirrels, and the UMA operated under that name until 2019, when our image hosting website went down and the adopt was put on an indefinite hiatus. When the UMA was revived in 2020 and brought with it a new species -- the Pixel Squik -- the thread needed a new name to accommodate both species, not just the Squirrel side. While the UMA operated under the name "PS Adoptables" in homage to the original, it was later changed in 2026 to the Pixel Forest as the species lore was further developed.

Species Lore
All thread species are said to originate from the Pixel Forest -- a small wilderness area mostly untouched by humans. But in 2013, the Squirrels grew tired of their home in the forest and ventured outwards. In time they were found by humans, who took to taming and adopting these little two-legged animals. The Squik was later discovered during the first human expedition into the Forest, and was closely followed by the Squitten. However, the presence of humans in the Pixel Forest was not entirely welcomed. For several years, Squinx retreated below ground into tunnels to avoid human interaction. They were believed to be extinct until they reappeared in 2022 in search of help in the Forgotten Friends event.

Pixel Squirrels are the most common pets originating from the Pixel Forest. They are roughly palm-sized and lack hind legs, but their unique builds do little to hinder their movement. They are often energetic and sociable, with loud and unapologetic personalities.

Pixel Squiks are cat sized, ground-dwelling creatures. Equip with short limbs and bulky bodies, they are largely sedentary animals who will spend their entire lives in the same area if given the chance. Squiks oftentimes possess horns of varying shape and color, though on rare occasions you may find one without horns entirely.

Pixel Squittens are an abundant feline-like species within the Forest. Beneath thick coats of coarse fur are powerful muscles used for wrestling and sparring with one another. They would be incredibly skilled predators, if not for their omnivorous preferences for greenery and bugs.

Pixel Squinx are the Forest's second and considerably rarer feline-like species. They are lithe and skilled hunters, able to navigate both surface terrains and subterranean tunnel systems or burrows. Most interestingly however are the special gemstones they carry. Like a sea otter's special rock, they grow attached to these gems as kittens, and will hold onto them their entire lives as a source of comfort.

be the first to accurately fill out the form to claim your pet! Owners of raffle litters will
be chosen at random at the code drop. Other special releases may have special criteria.

Adoption rules and guidelines:
- The adoption form must be filled out completely and correctly.
- Adoptions run on a first come, first serve basis unless stated otherwise.
- Erasing the code word from forms will render them invalid.
- Editing forms is allowed, just quote them and state what was changed.
- You may adopt once from one litter every 24 hours unless stated otherwise.

Raffle litter rules and guidelines:
- Adhere to all regular adoption rules unless stated otherwise.
- You may enter for all the raffle prizes, but may win only one per litter.
- Raffle winners will be announced at the litter code drop.
- Some raffles have specific requirements, such as non-owners only. If
you do not meet these requirements and enter for it anyway, your form
will be ignored at the drawing.

Customs are adoptables of which you choose every detail -- species, design, and any edits or animations allowed with the custom token you use. Customs have a base rarity of "Unknown" as they are not from official releases.

Custom Litters are a new feature which allows for adopters to commission a litter of their own design. By using a voucher, you can design a custom on both lines and species of your choosing, that will then be released in a batch of re-colors as a public litter. Custom Litter sizes range from 3 to 10 adopts, depending on complexity of the initial design.

- I have the right to decline any Custom Litter.
- Custom Litters can only be ordered when the feature is open.
- You cannot request a Custom Litter that resembles an existing adopt.
- Your initial design will appear as the first adopt in a Custom Litter, alongside a reserve stating your ownership of it. Your initial design will not be up for adoption.
- As these are public litters, it is recommended not to order Custom Litters of your own OCs or fursonas unless you are completely okay with others adopting a re-color of it.
- It is recommended to request designs that have the most potential for re-colors. If the design can't be replicated with palettes that make sense, completion will take longer and the litter will be smaller.
- You must have an updated co-op archive post containing the corresponding voucher being used, or the Credit equivalent.

Here at the Nursery, you are able to breed your adoptables using items purchased in the Specialty Store. Litter sizes range from 1-6 depending on the item used, and all offspring will reflect the color palettes and any present line edits of the parents.

Nursery breedings are capped at three per pet. To continue breeding your pairs after this limit, see our Second Generation feature.

- All pairings must be of the same species.
- In order for an animation to be passed down, at least one parent must be animated.
- Littermates -- as in, same litter release or siblings from a prior breeding -- may not breed.
- Adopts based on real people or franchised characters (such as Pokemon) may no longer breed.
- You must either own both adopts being paired, or have permission from their owner(s).
- All pets are capped at three standard breedings, with or without the same partner(s) as previous ones.
- It is recommended to pair adopts with either complimentary color palettes, or a wide range of entirely different colors. Parents with similar color schemes will yield a smaller variety of offspring due to limited color combinations.

Second Generation litters are a new take on an old PS feature. Whereas standard breedings are capped at three, 2nd Gen litters have no limit. The catch? These breedings are released as public litters for other people to adopt after you've picked which one you're keeping.

2nd Gen litters also run a risk of added mutations. While these can sometimes appear in the form of BFL or animated offspring, there is a wide range of mutations that can occur -- common ones like bobtails or curled ears, or rarer ones like two heads. These more heavily mutated offspring cannot breed (indicated with the abbreviation CB), and the lines are not allowed for customs, making their mutations entirely exclusive to this feature.

- This is a feature for breeding pets that have already reached the cap at the Nursery
- All pairings must be of the same species.
- Littermates -- as in, same litter release or siblings from a prior breeding -- may not breed.
- Adopts based on real people or franchised characters (such as Pokemon) may no longer breed.
- You must either own both adopts being paired, or have permission from their owner(s).
- While this feature adds the chance of mutations, they are not guaranteed in every litter. Certain items increase the chances of them occurring.
- Each user involved in a breeding will be able to select one pet each from the litter. The remainder will be released for free to other adopters.
- As these are public litters, it is recommended not to order a Second Generation breeding unless you are completely fine with other users adopting the unclaimed offspring.
- You must have an updated co-op archive post containing the corresponding Candy being used, or the Credit equivalent.
