why do they keep their hair long? one thing people first notice when looking at alyssa is her long, gorgeous, golden hair, littered with strategically placed flowers. the reason alyssa had first allowed it to grow out so long was actually slightly embarrassing, as it was for a guy.

when alyssa was young (and had shorter hair), she had a massive crush on this guy - problem is, he didn't even know her. she tried so hard to get him to notice her. she dyed her hair and she wore her best outfits, but nothing caught his attention. one day, she decided to style her hair using flowers, and that finally caught his attention. he made one off handed comment about it, and how it might look nice with longer hair. so she grew it out.

her feeling for the guy ended up vanishing after a few weeks - crushes are like that sometimes - but she continued to grow it out and style it using flowers (perhaps as a reminder to herself, to never change for anyone else). [169 words]

Why do they keep their hair long?:

Once upon a spring day, the queen fell ill and the only cure the doctors could conjure was found in the dark gardens of a dilapidated house. When the king collected the leaves, the house started to shutter and the winds swirled where a figure of an old woman appeared before him.

“I demand repayment for those leaves!” the woman screamed. Yet the king was so spooked he mounted his horses and galloped away. The woman appeared once more in his path, “For your disrespect, I curse you! One day you will never see the child you are saving again! Beware! Bewitched! Begone!” The warning lingered as he rushed back to the castle but it was forgotten when the queen recovered quickly and gave birth to Princess Laurel.

The relief was replaced with fear once Laurel was capable enough to leave their sights. The couple swore they would keep their princess safe at all costs. So the princess was locked in the tower. Impossible for them to reach her and impossible for intruders to take her.

Laurel had a lonely life but from her tower, she could see the townsfolk and envision herself following their routines. Tower conjured food and clothes but most importantly, books and guides about the outer world. As her hair grew longer, she could bundle herself up in front of the fireplace with her journals and feel like she was receiving a warm hug. She wonders how her parents thought the tower was a good solution at those times.

Her hair grew longer day by day, long enough to escape the tower. So in the night, as the witch cursed, the king and queen never saw their child again. Armed with knowledge, Laurel was finally able to walk among the kingdom, free once again.

why do they keep their hair long?: 295 words
anastasia may not look like it, but actually lives in a kingdom in the far, frozen north. her kingdom is so unforgiving that many choose to stay in the comfort of their more temperate homes, rather than brace the cold, unless it's for an incredibly important reason. however, because of the mountains that seem to climb the sky and the below freezing temperatures at times, there is occasionally those who want to brave the cold and climb the mountains.

this is where anastasia comes in. having grown her hair out extremely long exactly for this reason, anastasia goes out every day to check for those lost or trapped in the peaks. she can then use her hair get travelers unstuck from normally difficult to reach places, and furthermore, to keep them warm by bundling them in her hair, until she can get them back to the palace to warm up. many find it a bit strange, but welcome the princess of the ice kingdom's aid, rather than the alternative.

as a princess of this kingdom, anastasia feels it's only her duty to protect those in the kingdom, even those just visiting, so she has taken this burden upon herself, and as such no longer lives in the palace. instead, she has a cottage in the woods, just by the foot of the largest of the mountains in the kingdom, so that she can more quickly find people who need help and bring them to safety. her hair of golden yellow stands out so clearly against the powdery white snow that it's easy to spot her, even in the harshest blizzards, and this is why she chose herself for this task. to make sacrifices for her kingdom, for her subjects... that is what a princess does.

Why do they keep their hair long?

“Appearances are everything darling, and as the future queen, you must always present the right image to your subjects.”

“Nobles and commoners alike appreciate a beautiful monarch more than an unattractive one.”

“You were born with a pretty face and beautiful hair, and you must cultivate that beauty to perfection.”

As a child, my mother made sure to teach me those lessons, over and over, until they were drilled into my head. I was born with remarkable thick golden locks that earned me popularity among the common people and the title ‘Gilded Princess’. My mother encouraged my to increase their admiration. I grew out my hair, and became what the people wanted; a lovely golden-haired princess. My name was whispered through the streets with admiration and even adoration. Some rumored that I was divinely blessed or that I was a goddess come down from the heavens. All preposterous drivel, but my mother approved.

“Popularity is a weapon. The more loved you are, the more agreeable your subjects will be.”

Throughout my youth, I admit I found my mother’s insistent teachings mildly ridiculous. However, when I ascended to the throne, I grew to appreciate them. The people simply adored me, their precious ‘Gilded Queen’ with her long shining mane. They would continue to sing my praises even if I drove them into poverty and starvation. And though I found my subjects’ worshipful behavior appalling, I had gained my their adoration and trust and I wasn’t about to let that go, no matter what my personal feelings were. Therefore, I continued to show people what they wanted to see; a gorgeous golden-haired queen.

Why do they keep their hair long?:

Time; ever flowing, constantly moving forward, always slow and consistent... Unless you're a time-traveller. Time moves differently when one travels backwards, and as such, interesting things tended to happen when such jumps in time occur. One of the most visible effects? The speed at which one's hair would grow.

Unfortunately, a young Isbeth found this out the hard way; After her first time jump, Isbeth found herself back in her time period with almost double the length of the hair she'd had prior to her departure! Much to her dismay, Isbeth also came to find out that haircuts really weren't cheap, and while Isbeth could cut her own hair, it really wasn't how she'd purposefully choose to spend her afternoons. This would lead Isbeth to avoid haircuts like the plague.

With that knowledge, it should come as no surprise that this meant Isbeth's hair would get rather long fairly quickly... and stay long for a while. As disappointing as her reason for long hair may be, Isbeth was much more content at having to braid her hair out of the way than having to spend money on haircuts every week, so while others may choose to keep their hair long for special reasons, Isbeths was simply that she'd rather keep her hard earned cash.

Why do they keep their hair long?:
The morning sun began to peak through the heavy drapery hanging on the windows. I heard a soft knock on my door before it was delicately pushed open. Though the person requested an answer I stayed in the down filled bed, pretending I was not wake. The young maiden sighed as she trodded toward me slumbering.

"Princess please wake up, it is time for you to rise."

I stretched in response as she lightly tapped my shoulder and yawned while looking towards her. I smiled brightly and hopped onto the floor, quickly dragging her towards my window seat. Next to the window was a large dresser and mirror upon which many different types of combs and brushes rested.

"Perfect timing! Well its time to get ready isn't it?" I said cheerily.

The maiden rolled her eyes while grabbing a brush. "Of course Princess Azalea, however I must say you ought to think about trimming your hair at least a little bit? At this rate soon it will take me all day to brush your hair!"

I chuckled at her and glanced to my left as she began to comb through each strand of my long golden locks. "That truly would be terrible wouldn't it? Having you brush my hair all day would be torture," I jeered with a smirk. Shortly after I began to relax as she brushed, feeling tingles down my spine. The world slowed down in these moments as I just stared out my window while my maiden carefully released each knot tangled in my hair. Honestly I could think of nothing better than staying in all day with her. So I definitely wasn't going to cut my hair anytime soon.
