Her mother's insensitivity only made Lonnie cry harder.

"Oh... you mean dead. Well, I'm sorry, baby. He must not have been the one."

"But he was!" Lonnie protested, sitting up and swiping at her eyes. "I'm sure of it."

"Well, you're not going to be getting together anytime soon, darling." Her mother gestured up at the star-flecked sky above. "He's up there, and you're all the way down here."

"I don't care," Lonnie growled. "I don't care if it takes me my whole life to find a way. I'm going to see him again, or die trying."

"Just don't hurt yourself, baby. A lion's not worth getting killed for."

Fresh tears stung Lonnie's eyes. She turned back to glare at her mother. "He is if he's the one you care about most."

There were no lions in the Banshee Tribe who weren't coated in grey or swampy-green fur. Prey was hard enough to find with a fully camouflaged patrol; a brightly colored lioness was hopeless in the swamp.

When Moon first entered the world, her fur had been a downy grey, borderline silver. Yet, the longer she stood in the sun's rays, the more it washed out her pelt. Within four moons, her silver transformed into white, her back scorched yellow.

Few knew what happened to miscolored lions, but most agreed it wasn't good. During her ceremony, Moon broke down in front of the entire pride. They would probably exile her at best, execute her at worst. First came the tears, then the sobs. Her legs gave out.

"Don't," she heard her leader say. "They're just rumours." Then, more commandingly, "Gather yourself. Don't repeat this tomorrow."

Unsuprisingly, that didn't stop the tears.

Aster didn’t like to cry because it often made her feel hopeless. However, she was rather hopeless right now so it felt fitting. She was hopeless because she had no memories. In an instant she had been placed on this planet and remembered nothing of her previous life other than the fact that she was ire there was one. Aster felt a reluctant tear slowly slide down her face and she wiped it with her paw. It was difficult because she didn’t exactly knew what she was missing, just that she didn’t feel herself. She'd been scared; she'd lashed out. They wanted a witch, and so a witch she became. In one fell swoop, she cursed them all, and they rotted away into nothing. The whole town rotted...

...including those who had still loved her, who she still loved.
