Snow is covering the ground at a rather high level as it continues to fall. Prey is in short supply and herbs are not as abundant either. Predators seem to be roaming about though, unfortunately. Not to mention it is sick season, so your cats better watch out during this tough time.

As you all have may noticed CaC has its very own lineart! The lines were created by the very talented Grey_Hoodie and are being colored in by various other mods, mini mods and the CaC artists. Allowing us to use the lineart for your cats lets us give more unique patterns as we are limited to free to use pictures. If you want your cats to be transferred onto the lineart all you have to do is get in contact with a mod and the team will take care of it.

I have also noticed that a lot of you have not been adding pebbles correctly. Remember, every post you make you get five pebbles automatically. Patrols will sometimes bring back extra pebbles they find as well! Pebbles can be used here at the cac store anytime!

Richterscreech, Violindapple, Vapeurfall, Tacheterdapple and Bébéecho slipped on some frozen mud and crashed down a cliff. The others rushed down to try and help as best they could, not a single one sent for help though. ↬ Richterscreech has a minor sprain to a front paw and has a concussion, they need three moons of rest and a poppyseed for pain. ↬ Violindapple did not make it and died. ↬ Vapeurfall has a few broken ribs and a broken paw, they need four moons of rest with three bindweed, a stick and two poppyseeds. ↬ Tacheterdapple has a few broken ribs, they need three moons of rest and two poppyseeds. ↬ Bébéecho is fairly scratched up, they have a large alarming gash on their head and a concussion, they need three moons of rest, two horsetail and marigold.

Peuwobble, Béliercurl, Edelweißdrop, Sopranocavern, and Traîneaubells’ patrol went uneventful.
Flûtesong, Mericibubble, Tritonsnap, Quinoastripe, Ramurefrost, and Threeleg’s patrol went uneventful.

_____Rosepaw stood alone across from the nursery, watching bitterly as other cats filtered in and out to see Asterflame's new kit. Of course, two moons after Sweetpaw's death, she suddenly has a new kit. She probably wanted everyone to think it was a coincidence. Yeah, right. It was abhorrent, the way the queen thought she could simply replace Sweetpaw. Sweetpaw... The apprentice's stomach churned, but she ignored it, attributing the feeling to her disgust at her mother's actions.
_____"It won't get any better," Tanglestep told her as he approached from the side. Rosepaw looked at him. He had yet to allow her back into his group, and though she tried to act nonchalant, her wide eyes betrayed her desperation for his approval. The deputy glanced down at the small molly. "As long as that kit is here, it will be a constant reminder of your mistake."
_____Rosepaw grimaced as her eyes returned to the nursery. It was true. The mere thought of that kit made her feel ill. She swallowed. "So what do I do?"
_____Tanglestep chuckled lowly, and apprehension seeped into the young cat's veins. "You know what to do, Rosepaw."
_____She nodded slowly, almost imperceptibly. Of course. Already, she knew it had to come to this. "So when do I do it? And how? What if—"
_____"Enough questions," Tanglestep said firmly. "That's up to you. After all, you're not doing this for me. This is what you want."
_____For a moment, the apprentice hesitated, doubts whispering through her mind. But Tanglestep was right. He always was. That kit was an unceasing reminder of Sweetpaw, and it always would be unless she did something about it. She swallowed again and set her jaw. "Okay."

_____That night, after darkness had fallen over the clan, Rosepaw remained wide awake, mustering the courage for what she was about to do. Her mind was racing with fear, anticipation, doubts that she tried helplessly to quell. It's fine. It's fine. She shook her head. It wasn't. But it will be soon. She dragged herself to her paws and made her way to the entrance of the apprentice den, passing by Nanamipaw and Crowpaw, who were both curled up alone in their nests, and the three younger toms, all nestled together in a warm pile. Focus. She continued forward, stepping into the low light of a waning moon. Squinting slightly, she trained her eyes on the nursery. But every time her mind returned to her task, her thoughts became clouded with trepidation. Okay. Fine. She wasn't going to... do anything bad. She was just taking the kit outside. She was just walking to the nursery. Just moving forward. One step at a time. Nothing wrong with that. And so she walked, focusing only on the movement of her paws.
_____As Rosepaw stopped at the nursery entrance, doubt flooded her mind again. There were so many queens inside... and so many kittens. What if someone saw her? Then again, cats had been going in and out of the den all day to see the newest arrival, so they were all probably exhausted. You're stalling. Rosepaw's brow furrowed as she held her breath and poked her head inside. Relief washed over her as she saw that all the queens were asleep. Cloudmask appeared to have stationed herself by the entrance, perhaps to keep watch, but it seemed that even she had succumbed to fatigue. Rosepaw squinted. Hardly any light had made its way into the nursery, so she had to rely on scent to find Asterflame. Fortunately, she would have recognized her mother anywhere. But even as that thought crossed her mind, she felt a surge of anger at the queen for betraying Sweetpaw. Tonight would fix that.
_____With a newfound resolve, she made her way towards Asterflame, careful to avoid the kittens strewn about the floor. And then she saw him. A tiny kit, no more than a week or two old, sleeping soundly next to the queen. His pale coat was barely visible amid the darkness. Rosepaw's heart couldn't help but soften. She was looking at her newborn brother. No. Not her brother, she reminded herself. Her half-brother. Just a clanmate. Just some kit. Nothing more than that.
_____Rosepaw frowned, relieved that these rationalizations were working, and yet concerned that she was making them at all. There was a reason she was so doubtful and hesitant... Maybe it wasn't good to ignore it. The apprentice shook her head, trying to quiet all the overlapping, contradictory thoughts. She'd made up her mind already. There was no going back.
_____She stepped forward to get to the kit, and felt her paw land on another's small tail. He squealed in pain and surprise, and Rosepaw reflexively hissed at him to be quiet.
_____"That hurt!" he mewed indignantly.
_____"Shh! You're fine," Rosepaw whispered, her heart racing as she glanced around the nursery. "Go back to sleep."
_____"Who are you?" the little kit asked, standing on his hind legs to bat at the molly's shoulder. She flinched away before regaining her composure, not wanting to make any more clumsy mistakes.
_____"It doesn't matter, okay? Just please, be quiet."
_____"Okay," the kit whispered. After a brief pause of staring up at Rosepaw expectantly, he continued, "I'm Lionkit."
_____Rosepaw narrowed her eyes, bewildered. "Good for you. Can you go back to sleep now?"
_____"What are you doing?"
_____"You wouldn't understand. It's a secret."
_____"I'm good at secrets!"
_____"When have you ever—okay, fine. Never mind," Rosepaw mumbled, growing more impatient by the second, and more worried that they would wake one of the queens. "...You're good at secrets?"
_____"Yeah!" Rosepaw couldn't see much of him in the dim light, but she did make out his eyes widening in anticipation.
_____"Time to prove it. You can't tell anyone else I was in here, okay?"
_____"I won't tell! I'll be super silent!"
_____Rosepaw suppressed the urge to shush him again. This miserable "conversation" would be over soon. "Promise?"
_____The wide eyes moved up and down in a nod. "I promise."
_____"Good," Rosepaw breathed. "Go back to sleep, now." To her relief, and some surprise, the kit did as he was told, curling up next to the queen who must have been his mother. She turned quickly to grab Asterflame's kit and exit the nursery, so eager to leave that her doubts had no time to catch up to her.
_____The calico molly raced through the dark woods, stumbling over branches as she went. Each time she did, she glanced behind before picking up the pace. She only stopped once she reached the river. Her heart was pounding, and not just from the exertion. She set the kit down on the ground and stepped forward, contemplating the water. The river was quieter than it had been that day, more peaceful, but still deadly.
_____"Rosepaw!"
_____The molly turned on her heel at the sound of her sister's voice, only to find there was no one there. A glimpse of hope was drowned by a crashing wave of terror as she was brought back to that day. Ice seeped into her joints, locking her in place as she watched Ashbark drag Sweetpaw towards the river. Her voice echoed in her head as she heard herself pleading helplessly for her sister's life. Even after she closed her eyes and the scene was shrouded in darkness, Sweetpaw's voice was still there, crying, shouting Rosepaw's name. And then, silence.
_____Just like that, it was over. Once again, she was standing by the river with the kit, though her cheeks were wet with tears and her heart was pounding even harder than before. Her mind was swimming with a thousand thoughts. Each time she tried to grasp one, to figure out exactly how she was feeling, it escaped, slipped just beyond her reach. Rosepaw crouched down and stared at the ground, afraid to close her eyes in case she was brought back to that day again.
_____The kit mewed, squinting in the bright sunlight. Rosepaw turned to him, all her disparate emotions coalescing and reconstructing into anger. This kit was helpless, innocent, everything that Sweetpaw once was. How could he dare to live when she was dead?
_____Rosepaw stood up, her doubts and fear now dissolved into hatred. Hatred at Asterflame for replacing Sweetpaw, hatred at the kit for being the replacement—and beneath it all, hatred at herself for making it all happen. Less than gently, she took the kit by the scruff and brought it to the riverbank. The kit squirmed as she held it over the water, mewing in protest at the cold spray. But as her grip loosened, she found herself stepping back. So she tried again. She planted her feet beside the river and leaned forward. Yet as soon as she started to let go, she suddenly was holding on tighter. With a low groan of frustration, she set the kit down and began to pace back and forth. She had the drive, she had the resolve, so why was this so hard? With each attempt, she came just short of actually letting the kit go. Eventually, she came to the regrettable conclusion that she couldn't do it. Not again.
_____"Having trouble?" Tanglestep asked. Rosepaw jumped, turning to face the deputy as he approached.
_____She glanced toward the kit, embarrassed by her failure. "I can't," she admitted.
_____"You can't?" Tanglestep repeated, his amber eyes narrowing.
_____"I don't want to," Rosepaw corrected hastily.
_____"You don't want to."
_____"That's what I said," the apprentice snapped. For a moment, she felt the urge to apologize, but Tanglestep seemed surprisingly pleased with her response.
_____"Right." Tanglestep looked at the kit before training his eyes on Rosepaw. His stare felt cold, piercing, menacing—but the young molly didn't know if that was because of him or her. "What if I told you that you had to kill this kit? Would you do it then?"
_____Rosepaw blanched, scrambling for the resolve that had disappeared so quickly. Her mind again became crowded with conflicting thoughts, so full she felt it might burst. She didn't even know what Tanglestep was threatening her with—exile, or death? But really, it didn't matter. She was resigned to live with her guilt, but either of those outcomes was too daunting to even consider. She took a shaky breath and whispered, "Yes."
_____The corners of Tanglestep's mouth twitched upwards in a rare smile. "Good." Rosepaw's chest tightened. Slowly, mechanically, she began to move toward the kit, weighed down by the reality of what she had promised. Her thoughts grew louder with each step, a civil war raging inside her head, until they drowned each other out, leaving behind a suffocating silence. She bent down to pick up the kit one last time.
_____"Now, go and take it back to camp."
_____Rosepaw turned to look at the deputy, her eyes widened slightly, but her expression otherwise unchanged. She knew she ought to feel relieved, but she didn't feel much of anything. "Really?" she asked, her words muffled by the kit's scruff. Tanglestep nodded.
_____"Rosepaw," he called as she turned to go. She held her breath as she looked back at him. "Did anyone see you in the nursery?"
_____Her mind flitted to Lionkit, but her eyes remained steadily on Tanglestep's face. "No."
_____"Are you sure?" he persisted.
_____Rosepaw raised her head. "I'm sure." The deputy watched her for a few long moments, analyzing her face, her tone, her body language, before apparently deciding that she was telling the truth. Even after he gave his approval and told her she was free to go, the apprentice didn't allow herself to relax, and for good reason.
_____"One more thing," Tanglestep said. Rosepaw again turned to face him. "Welcome back to the group." Rosepaw nodded her thanks. She felt something close to happiness, but it was quickly swallowed by the overwhelming emptiness within her. With that, she walked back to camp, wondering all along if Tanglestep might call her name again.

_____Rosepaw returned to the nursery holding the kit by the scruff. Her hopes of an unnoticed return were extinguished when she saw Asterflame circling the interior of the nursery, muttering quietly to herself. The queen stopped in her tracks when she saw her daughter standing in the entrance. "Rosepaw?" she mewed, going to greet her when she saw the kit she carried with her. "Sunkit! You found him, thank Starclan," she sighed.
_____"Yeah, he must have wandered off," Rosepaw mumbled after setting the kit down. Was he even old enough to walk?
_____"Already? How many days has it been?" Asterflame wondered aloud, her eyes distant. She shook her head before picking up Sunkit and beginning to groom him, checking meticulously for any marks or injuries. "Well, I'm glad you finally came to meet him," she told Rosepaw earnestly. She gestured for the apprentice to come in, but she remained where she was, shifting uncomfortably. The queen glanced up, and her brow furrowed in concern. "Rosepaw, what's wrong?"
_____"Nothing, I just—" Rosepaw tried briefly to come up with another lie, but kept returning to the truth. "It's just that whenever I look at him—" And then she wished that she had lied, because the truth was too painful to say out loud.
_____"You see Sweetpaw," Asterflame said gently. Rosepaw met her mother's eyes for the first time since she returned to camp. Her gaze was warm, inviting, understanding—the apprentice couldn't bear to look again. "It's okay, baby. I understand," she said softly.
_____Rosepaw shook her head, backing away. "I have to go," she muttered, walking hastily to the apprentice den without another word. Asterflame's eyes brimmed with tears as she watched her daughter run off. She sighed, blinking her tears away and casting a disdainful glance at the still-sleeping Cloudmask before returning her attention to Sunkit, grooming his bright coat as if to watch away all traces of danger.

─ Last Moon ─

Jewelpaw was getting prepared for her hunting assessment, stretching out her muscles and meditating to speak with the spirits of the jungle. She was pray she would pass, she was more than prepared for it as she had been training non stop since Lakedream had been made a guardian. She had noticed how pretty Surfwind was becoming, she felt like second best. She could feel a twist in her stomach, feeling terrible for her envy of the older she-cat.
"Hey, goodluck Jewelpaw! Can't wait to hear your hunter name!" Lakedream called from his den, smiling. She could feel her heart melting as she heard the words, smiling.
She trotted up to him confidently, gulping. She put on a big grin, giggling. "You better be ready for when I pass my assessment! Cause I'll have a secret to share with you when I do." She warned, narrowing her eyes at him.
Lakedream smiled back, chuckling. "Okay, I promise I wont share your secrets Jewel."
She smiled wide, feeling butterflys in her stomach. 'Now I have to tell him how I feel.' She thought, pray some more that she passed her assessment.

─ This Moon ─

Jasminestar looked out at his niece and nephews. He would admit that they were the cutest kits he's ever seen, excluding his own. However, he highly doubted that Foampelt was the father to them. He could tell that the tom was visibly nervous whenever the Chieftian was looking at him. He understood Foampelt and Florasong's plan to fool him, claim Foampelt was the father so Florasong wouldn't be in trouble for having an outside mate. Yet, he wasn't worried about his clan finding love outside the clan. He was more worried that they would lie about it. He wasn't surprised that Florasong would lie, he knew she could be conniving and sneaky. He thought of Olivegaze, who had come to him and openly admitted that she had taken on a mate outside of the clan. He was proud and happy that she trusted him enough to tell him.
He approached the anxious tom, smiling. "Good afternoon, Foampelt." He greeted.
Foampelt quickly dipped his head. "Uh, yes, sir..!" He answered, gulping.
Jasminestar sighed, a bit disappointed in the tom. "You don't have to be this nervous, Foam. I know." He took a breath, seeing the other tom relax a bit. "I just want to know who's idea it was, to cover it up I mean."
"That... Was my idea. I've been in love with her for a while now and I thought maybe... Just maybe she would maybe fall in love with me if I did this for her." He admitted, lowering his head. "I'm sorry for taking you as a fool, sir. I'll take a punishment as you see fit."
Jasminestar shook his head. "There's no need to punish you, you've already been doing it to yourself I bet." He answered, turning to go to his den to be with his mate. "A little advice, however, Florasong isn't the type to fall in love. She always gets bored with a tom." He told the tom, frowning. He had no intent of informing Florasong that her kits were accepted in the clan no matter the father, he was okay with letting her worry about that.

Harespring smiled at Forestfire and Almondjoy with a gentle look. Forestfires tail flicked nervously, while Almondjoy prodded him and whispered something in his ear. Forestfire tipped his head thoughtfully, and Harespring leaped down to look at them. "Well, let's go you two. Remember, it's getting close to Leafbare, so don't feel bad if you don't catch anything! Let's look for bigger then more this time, but remember, anything will be great!" he instructed. Forestfire rolled his eyes as Harespring turned to pad out the entrance.
As the trio padded through the entrance, he spotted Troutstar flash him a look. Ignoring it, he continued. "Should I leave the scenting to you two?" Forestfire didn't respond, though dashed forward. Almondjoy trotted after him. Flicking his tail in the air, he followed the other two.
He found Forestfire glaring at Almondjoy, which had shrunken in apology. Before he himself could say anything, Forestfire proclaimed, "You scared it off!" Almondjoy looked at his paws. "Im sorry." Forestfire straightened and shook himself. "Its fine, just be more careful Peca- I mean Almondjoy." Almondjoys whiskers twitched with amusement as Harespring trotted forward. "Im sure the clan will be fine with you calling me Pecan, Forestfire." He turned to look at Harespring. "Right?"
"As long as it doesn't become a permanent thing, then yes, you can call him Pecan." Forestfire twitched his ears. "C'mon then Pecan! Let's go find something better than that mouse!"
Almondjoy released a purr of amusement and trodded after the cinnamon-colored tom. Harespring swiveled his ears as he took a step forward. Paw mid-air, he twisted to sniff the air. "Guys! A hare!" he alerted the other two. Almondjoy stalked back, Forestfires tail twined around Almondjoys. Neither seemed to mind. "Alright, I have experience hunting hares." Forestfire meowed.
"Go ahead." Harespring replied. Im the one that was named after a hare.. he shook the thought away. Forestfire crouched and very slowly stalked forward. Watching the brown animal, its ears twitching. Forestfire had paused, barely breathing. When the hare turned back to its sprig, Forestfire continued. He leaped, but the hare noticed him at the last moment. Harespring dashed towards it as it bolted, leaving Forestfire growling and shaking off his dusty fur.
He quickly caught up, the hare diving into a mouse burrow only to find it was to small. He sliced his claws over its neck, snapping it. Heaving it in his jaws, he dragged it back towards the rest of his patrol. Almondjoy quickly met him, and grabbed the hare by its stomach, pulling with him. Forestfire eventually came up to them and started pulling at its ears. It felt much lighter.

As the two made it to camp, they dropped the body on the fresh-kill pile. Troutstar and Utensilpoke were already gone, and so Harespring grabbed a vole. "Hey, Forestfire and Almondjoy, come and eat!" he called. The two males eagerly bounded over and sniffed the carcass. The trio lay down and crunched into the prey. "This tastes great," Forestfire commented, with Almondjoy agreeing. When it was done with, the two headed off to talk with each other. They'd be patrolling soon!

territory
duckclan territory is covered in green hills and meadows. the grass is so tall that
when crouching, most cats can barely be seen. this makes the territory a great place for
hide and seek. it makes it hard to find prey, so they usually look for tunnelling rodents
than waste their time on catching prey on the surface apart from a few lucky catches they
happen to stumble across. there's also a lake for those who prefer fishing or just
want to hang around ducks.

the camp is marked with a circle of pebbles and rocks, but otherwise you wouldn't know
that a few feet up ahead, you were going to fall headfirst into a small chasm due to
the grass blocking your vision. the camp isn't too deep, but you would probably get injured
if you fell in carelessly. there are several large moss-covered rocks that form stairs for
duckclan warriors and is the only way to get down safely.

inside of camp, the dens are carefully wedged under crevices or on top of ledges, with
the nursery and ducklings' dens hidden away underneath the earth and the leaders' den
looming high over the others. warrior dens are scattered throughout. there is a small pond
beside the stairs, and cats like to hang around the area when they're not doing anything
else. there aren't any fish, but they like to wade into the water and maybe even have
water fights.

personality
cats from duckclan are generally very relaxed and mellow. they're easily humored and
like to interact with other cats. they're not interested in fighting other than to protect
themselves and like to maintain friendly relations with other clans. they're usually not
taken very seriously, with their laid-back attitude towards everything and
their clan being relatively new. that being said, there are also cats who
just love to play pranks on others.

belief system
duckclan's ancestors are in neither the dark forest nor starclan. instead they become
flowers, peeping out of the blades of grass in the spring to welcome the new egglings
and seeping back into the ground to rest for the winter. these flowers are clustered
around a hill and glow under moonlight. this area has been named the moonhill.
every moon the ancestors will come to life to dance under the moonlight, as well as
converse with any clan members who decide to visit them. medicine cats will avoid
picking herbs from this area, but if they do the flowers of the ancestors will
grow back next spring.

duckclan warriors put their trust in the ducks that roam throughout their territory.
during spring they'll follow the ducks around on their patrols, sometimes even bringing
young egglings and ducklings to show them the ducks.

they venture back to the forest, they find that
they're unable to navigate their previous home,
having adjusted to the meadows their new clan
now resides. maybe lostclan truly is lost?
