Yeah, chickens are very opportunistic about food. They will gladly gobble up anything edible you serve them, and may also hunt for small animals, ranging from insects to small lizards and even mammals.

One of my favourite chicken videos out there is one where a cat stalks a mouse, only to watch a chicken speed out from the background and snatch it up first.

That said, eating eggs is quite common in birds - they're nutritious, and egg-laying takes up energy and resources. That's also why people tend to grind up the egg shells and feed them back to their chickens later on c:
