I’ve been mulling over this since my last post and have a few more things to say if that’s alright.
First: As Oliverstorm noted above, some change had already happened, which is good! It means that even if we had a bit of a kerfluffle earlier, things are finally getting on the right track.
Secondly: Nick, thank you so much for joining us here and posting. It means a lot to everyone, even to a wee bab like me. I really hope you’re able to continue to pop in and keep us informed every once in a while!
Thirdly: I was thinking on how we could better implement a line of communication between the users and the staff, specifically those who have coding experience and are able to change things on the site itself. While I’m sure having constant announcements on the front page would be the simplest way, I think maybe starting a staff-locked thread would be a better idea. If possible, it could be used as a change log, making it easy to see what was implemented and when. This would open up some transparency, so that we the users could see what is being done, even if it’s minor, like the block system changes today.
Another idea I’d like to put on the table is possibly starting applications for volunteers who are familiar with coding and are able to take on projects from approved suggestions. Suggestions would still have to be approved by staff, but these “freelancers” for lack of better term could slowly start to fix the coding or implement new features. This would certainly take some of the stress off of Nick. As for possible compensation, why not grant a special title/avatar to the user? I don’t think a pet or item would be much good, but giving them some flair to show off in the forums would be fun!
Overall, I think what is needed most is transparency and updates, and being able to handle that in a single thread that only staff can post in would be an easy way to implement it.
