Beaker (greyhound) is still going strong! Going greyer and greyer by the day though. He'll be 9 this September. His anxiety has gotten so much better over the years and I've finally found a diet that really, truly seems to work for him. Aside from regular greyhound-type accidents such as RIPPING OFF A DEWCLAW AT 2AM, he isn't such problem-child anymore.
May (blue merle smooth collie) had her 2nd and final litter in April. She also had 2 very expensive root canals this year... Please insure your pets if you haven't already and don't want to go broke. We achieved her Grand Championship in January of 2019 and she's now mostly retired from showing, save for appearances at CCA Nationals or the Veterans class at specialty shows once she's old enough. We've tried to get into performance events but she really isn't very interested, so our focus will finally be able to go 100% to her service work. Not that there's much public access to do for now, but there's always other training to be done.
Thora (tricolor smooth collie) is my newest addition since I "disappeared". She is May's daughter from her first litter. She'll be 3 in September. My friends and I (quite seriously) call her the "malincollie" haha. She is the driviest collie you'll meet. She is really a dream come true to move forward with as a breeder and exhibitor. We've trained in barn hunt and she ADORES it. Once the world is more back to normal, I do have plans to get into other sports with her, tracking and herding being on our shortlist. She is halfway to her AKC Championship.

OMG look how everyone's grown! Welcome back. How did Beaker like the puppies?

Question for folks- does anyone have experience with or knowledge of the short tailed dog gene (T, CG)? I have a rescue mutt who we got an Embark DNA test for, and both he and his (supposed) half-sister have the short tailed gene, yet the 5 breeds my dog was identified as being don't have that gene (wikipedia link for breeds with the gene).

Thank you! The first litter was raised by May's breeder/former co-owner, so Beaker didn't meet any puppies until I brought Thora home. He took a while to warm up to her but he got there eventually haha. This litter came to my house from 4.5 to 8 weeks and he mostly ignored them, honestly. He showed interest sometimes and would go sniff but then removed himself from the situation when he got uncomfortable. Which I am SO PROUD of because that's not behavior I ever thought I would see from him. He was muzzled the one time he was out in the yard with them, otherwise, his interactions with them were through an xpen or while I was holding a puppy. Definitely don't trust him to have uncontrolled interactions with little ones, but he did much better than I was anticipating.

I LOVE smooth collies. I feel we don't see nearly enough of them. Rough collies are cool and all, but smooth collies are just beautiful. If I ever get a decent plot of land, Smooth collies are definitely on my short list of breeds I want.

I agree, they're not nearly as popular as they should be! I do love the roughs too, but I'm not drawn to them in the same way I am with smooths. I find collies to be pretty adaptable to different environments unless you just mean you need more space for dogs because I feel that haha.

We got the crew together today to announce the new addition coming on Monday πŸ‘€ Can y’all guess what breed we are adding? It’s a herding group breed! (It’s not the Buhund I mentioned previously)

^ I'll guess Belgian Laekenois.

And is that a blue/purple tail I see? Cute. Great group shot.

Hello dog lovers like me!

I currently have two dogs, one boy and one girl. The boy dog is named Xander, and he is a mutt. From the top of my head, he has Labrador Retriever, German Shepherd, Akita, Alaskan Malamute, and Staffordshire Bull Terrier. The girl dog is named Zoey, and she is an almost pure-bred Am. Staff. She has a hint of American Bulldog, however. I love my babies to bits!

My family has plans to adopt a third dog, and my father wants another guard dog, meanwhile my mother and I would love a loyal dog. We looked at Alaskan Malamutes, Great Pyrenees, Dobermans, Rottweilers, etc. Although I know my breeds, I just want your guys opinion. Would another guard dog work in my house? Should we stick with a loyal dog? What breed is the best for my dogs?

SOOOOO puppy 2k21 is a go! once i finish college of course. i narrowed down my breed list to 4 breeds, it will be my first well bred purebred so im really excited! without further ado, the list goes:
borzoi, aussie, doberman, smooth fox terrier.
narrowly missed the list: Tervuren Belgian Shepherd, Viszla, Airedale Terrier.

im in contact with several breeders, it will be so hard to decide D:

Which dobe breeder are you looking into? :) Dobes are great dogs!

im not in the US unfortunately, so i doubt anyone has heard of the breeder in question, but they were a client of mine (i work in a vet clinic) and i adore her dogs. perfect temperament, i know dogs of hers that went into IPO, agility, dock diving. exactly the kind of dog id be looking to add to my pack! confident and friendly, a dog i can take anywhere.

Gizmutt wrote:Smooth fox terriers are with out question, my favorite small terrier breed, and one of the few small breeds I would ever consider owning myself. They're very unique looking, and I love it. Wire haired variety (and wire-haired dogs in general) are not my aesthetic, but the smooth fox, with it's V shaped fittingly fox like head, are dogs I am very fond of. I'd be interested to know which breeders you are contacting for them.. I won't be getting one anytime soon - but I've looked into breeders for them, as a possible future addition. I found a good one in MO, but I'd love to see others, some one has actually talked to.
And Borzoi are a dream as well. One I'll likely never own myself - but I wouldΒ loveΒ to see pictures if that is what you decide on.

i adore terriers. my heart dog was a westie. he was a perfect little dog; my permanent companion and partner in mischief. i am starting to lean more and more on the smooth fox as a choice.

the borzoi is my overall favourite breed of dog. i found an excellent breeder, who has a line of social zois that lack the typical sighthound anxiety.

the breed list has since narrowed down to dobe, smooth fox terrier and borzoi! my mum keeps pushing dobe, and frankly the only thing holding me back is the prevalence of DCM in the breed. i couldnt stand the heartbreak of losing another dog younger than supposed to. i already spoke to a zoi breeder, so im all set in that aspect if i do end up going for zoi. ahhhhh decisions decisions.....

Nope, my next Belgian won’t be until next year πŸ˜‚ though there is one in the works. This pup will be my boyfriends first sport dog so went a little calmer this time lol
