He'd been on a patrol later than usual with his apprentice, and so he wasn't awake when the dawn patrol had left. The pale-pelted tom had been dreaming of settling down with someone, only to leave to train his apprentice. It felt like it was real, but he knew it wasn't, especially since his apprentice was seemingly content to go on every patrol and never said otherwise. Well, that and he hadn't found someone to settle down with. Truth be told, he was beginning to think that there wasn't anyone for him, but maybe there wasn't. Well, there was a certain cat that he might have had his eye but he was sure that he didn't feel the same.

Waking up to the ground shaking underneath was awful in itself, his hackles rising ever so slightly as he tried to keep calm and his paws on the ground, although the latter was a bit more difficult. Hearing his apprentice hiss and swear from the tremors, he released a quiet breath that he hadn't realized he was holding. At least she was alright, shaken up maybe but alright. Turning his gaze away from her for a moment, he couldn't help but make sure that Bumbleear was alright. Maybe he was already out of camp.

The silver tabby was usually one of the first cats awake, but for some reason, she'd slept in just a bit later than her usual time. But what had woke her up this time was the tremors of the earth, and it wasn't the smell of the air for once. Recently the air had been smelling so odd, and she'd taken to covering her nose with her tail and paws as she slept instead of accidentally sprawling over a few other cats. What was this? Would it ever stop? She'd never experienced anything like this before, and her mother never once spoke of the earth shaking under her paws.

Biting her tongue to keep from voicing her worries aloud, she wanted to leave but wasn't entirely sure if she could. Flattening her ears, she rose to her paws carefully and attempted to step away from any sleeping cats and nearly fell on a few of them. That would not have been fun, seeing as she wasn't exactly light. Alright, if she couldn't walk then perhaps she could crawl instead. She kept her paws on solid ground, with the rest of her close to it as well as she started. Another tremor under her caused her to lose her footing once more, only to lay there, shaking but not nearly as bad as the ground.

This was terrifying, wasn't it? Something was happening to the earth, and how were there so many cats still asleep? She couldn't hear the birds, and they were always around this early in the morning. Surely, there was a way out of this!

𝐂𝐑𝐄𝐄𝐊𝐄𝐘𝐄𝐒 !!
mink point siamese molly with icy blue eyes.
35 moons - no apprentice - loc: clan camp
tags: those in camp; none

xxxxx──── x Creekeyes awoke with a start, and it seemed as if the earth itself was awakening alongside her. It rattled her bones and sent every hair on her body upright. She jolted upwards, suddenly aware of her clanmates around her, and felt herself slightly relax at the sight of them and the scattered labored breathing accompanied by hitches as some awoke as she had. That was unpleasant.. her thoughts drifted then, as she remembered why the earth was acting this way. The stars were gone. Anger returned to replace her terror and then soon after anguish. In sleep she was able to escape the fact that starclan had turned their backs on their loyal followers. They slept under the stars for this reason, and the fact that they could just turn away and disappear baffled and angered the siamese molly. She was angry because she could think of no reason other than something mundane for the stars to have disappeared and gone. Which felt petty and childish of them. However, she would not deny her faith in them. She was simply frustrated at the moment, though whether things would work themselves out in time remained to be seen. The question lingered what had they done wrong? Why were they being treated like this, such loyal followers suddenly plunged into a world where those that they so dearly cherished had gone. She shook her head, her tail lashing as she carefully stepped over her slumbering clanmates, the tremors in the earth only intensifying her emotions. It felt as if the earth itself was ricocheting the chaos and doubt that had taken root in her head.

She tried so hard, so often, to be the shoulder for her clanmates to express their grief and doubts upon. She could take it, she told herself that daily. However it had led to an inability for her to rely on herself, and with no one around to shoulder her doubts and grief she internalized it. In hopes of hiding it from those she cared about. If she was to be the one they went to when they were feeling disoriented, then she herself could not show weakness. Could not show disorientation. Then where would they go, with their rock slowly shattering from the inside? Where was she to go as she herself felt pulled apart and fragmented? She knew many refused to rely on her, but that didn't ease the internalized pressure she placed upon her shoulders. Even with her position, she had a hard time imagining what vulturehunt must be feeling right now. The clan weighing in on him, as their only source of leadership as of late. This had led to nothing but distaste for the life of a leader. Constantly weighing the options around them, one choice would lead to another, and that choice would dictate whether the clan survived or not. Unity with one another was their key to survival, but their biggest reliance was on starclan. Without the stars to guide their steps creekeyes felt the uncertainty of the unknown. Never before had she felt so unstable, as if the earth might split beneath her paws and she would fall into the abyss, never to return.

That thought was beginning to feel all too real as the earth refused to cease it's terrible trembling. She bit back yowls of frustration and disorder, her ears flattening against her skull and fur bristling as she finally eased her way out of the mass of cats. Now solitary, just a short distance from where she had been earlier, the vibrations felt all too real. Her eyes flashed over her clanmates, checking them in silence. An attempt at distracting her from the shaking world she had awoken to.

𝐂𝐎𝐑𝐈𝐀𝐍𝐃𝐄𝐑𝐏𝐀𝐖!!
black and white bi-colored tom with lime green eyes.
9 moons - mentor: demurecloud - loc: clan camp
tags: those in camp; none

xxxxx──── x Corianderpaw jolted upright, unsettled didn't seem to be the right word for his emotions as they spiked and he hissed aloud. The earth was revolting against those upon it, and this frightened the young tom, whose body prominently displayed it with jagged spikes of fur sticking straight from his pelt. His tail bristled and eyes narrowed to slits. Ears pinned against his head, he felt an additional hiss bubbling in his throat, but he cut it off before it could escape him again. Terror ricocheted through camp, he watched it like it might have been something tangible. How terror slid from one cat to the next, awakening some, leaving some to their slumber. The earth, rumbling all the while. Was this some sort of punishment? What had they done to earn it? The doom of his thoughts made corianderpaw near sick. He hated change, and he especially hated whatever this was. Immediately his gaze flickered about for demurecloud. His mentor was the closest thing he had to an older cat that he could trust. Trust was hard to come by these days, especially with everything going on, so he chose to stick closest to the familiarity of his mentor, rather than explore the unknown that seemed to want to pounce on his tail and latch on. If he tried to ignore it, like he had done originally with the stars, it just seemed to make itself more prominently known. As evident of right now, when the earth itself seemed enraged for some odd reason. The smell was revolting, he had blocked it at first but now that it wafted towards his nose he wanted to curl into a ball and hide so its reek never reached him again. That wasn't going out of his head anytime soon.

spacespace Pyrepaw walked beside the patrol unusually quietly. He was not particularly an early riser by choice, but he would not argue with his mentor. His paws slowly crunched against the morning frost, and he flicked his tail in irritation. Despite having longer fur than some of his comrades, the morning breeze swept straight through his fur and past his bones. He yawned, and immediately regretted it. From the start of the breeze, the cold brought a sharp smell. It wafted through his mouth. Pyrepaw pressed himself closer to his mentor in hopes that maybe she could shield both the breeze and the scent from him.

spacespace The tom sneezed, and paused to growl, "Smells like the ground just passed wind..." He had to stop himself from laughing at his own joke for the consequence of breathing more of the air. Pyrepaw glanced at his clan mates subtly, hoping for recognition for his joke. Suddenly, the ground began to shake. He glanced up at his mentor anxiously and nodded. "Maybe the ground is just hungry.." He mewed in a quieter voice, knowing now wasn't necessarily the time to be joking around. He still scoffed quietly, then recoiled at the smell.

spacespacePyrepaw pressed himself as low to the ground as he could. His eyes darted to the pebbles on the ground, bouncing up and down to the beat of the earth. "It doesn't seem like it's stopping, Heatherfrost," he mewed, "what do we do?"

spacespace Demurecloud had been awake as usual, always an early riser. She was listening to the birds as always in tranquillity. The molly sat down and curled her tail delicately around her white paws. Her eyes were closed, and ears pushed forwards in earnest. The molly breathed slowly, taking in the morning air. Except... what's that smell? She wondered. Her nose wrinkled and ears flattened in disgust. Demurecloud opened one pale yellow eye and looked around. Her fur stood on end, and she stood up. The birds slowly slowed their chirping and her heart dropped quickly.

spacespace The molly stood up and swept her long white tail against the dead leaves that littered the floor. Demurecloud turned around and looked back at camp, from where she stood at one of the entrances. Almost immediately after, the earth shook beneath her. She froze and crouched deep to the ground, her belly fur brushing and trembling with the earth. Her eyes instinctively searched for Corianderpaw, her responsibility. She let out a soft sigh and made closer to other clan members, only to trip and land on her side when another wave trembled. She hissed in annoyance and scrambled on all fours.

spacespace Demurecloud raised her eyes to the others once more. She found her familiar apprentice and slowly made her way over on sure feet. "Corianderpaw," The molly called, "come here!" She knew how he must feel and the thought made her sick. Demurecloud pushed down her own fear and anxiety deep in her stomach.

indentthe young molly was awoken by the sensation that she was falling.
indentpiercing blue eyes snapped open as another tremor ran through the ground. the apprentice was on her paws in the blink of an eye, her claws digging into her mossy nest as if that could help keep her stable. she was sleeping in a group with the other apprentices as they had no dens although it seemed like some of her fellow den-mates have already been awoken by the shakes. the fur along her spine rose as she glanced around the camp frantically. most of her clan-mates were having the same reaction as she. what is going on? she's never seen anything like this before. it seemed like after the stars have faded and nobody could see a glimpse of their ancestors, everything has been going... well, not good. and the harsh, foul scent she caught a whiff of that was being carried along the breeze did not help, either. she couldn't help but allow her ears to flatten against her skulls.
indentshe gingerly stepped out of her nest, careful not to trip over her own paws as another tremor ran through the earth. she noticed that her mentor, stoneheart, was located not too far from where she was. she looked just about as startled as bluepaw. the apprentice made her way over to the older she-cat, trying her best to keep her balance so she was not thrown off of her feet. "stoneheart?" she mewed as she neared her mentor. "are you okay?"

indentbumbleear has long since been awake.
indenthe was awoken by the first tremors that began to shake the earth. at first, he had been just as panicked as his clan-mates. he's never felt the ground shake with such violence before. it was like the entire forest was simply angry, and he couldn't figure out why. he's never witnessed something like this before and he was pretty sure none of his clan-mates have, either. he had no idea what was going on, to be honest and it's not like he really expected any answers from starclan. ever since the stars have faded from sight, it seems that their ancestors have gone quiet.
indentanother tremor threatened to knock him off of his paws. he hissed in annoyance, digging his claws into the solid dirt. his ears swiveled forward when he heard a familiar yowl, and he caught sight of everpaw being knocked over onto the ground from a particularly strong shake. he made his way over to her as quickly as he could - without tripping over his own paws, of course. "everpaw!" he exclaimed to his apprentice, leaning down to use his head to help roll her over back onto her feet. "are you alright?"

    tom ↦ elder ↦ 106 moons ↦ mentions: -- ↦ tags: --

the older tom was generally a heavy sleeper but today was slightly different. he had stirred a little when the dawn patrol had left but went right back into his deep slumber after watching them leave. the elder's sides rose and fell steadily in his sleep, his gray pelt slightly unruly due to a little lack of grooming. the tremors did pull him out of his dreams, the elder opened his eyes and blinked a few times to clear his blurry vision from sleep. as things focused, he noticed a few other cats awake and seeming uneasy. with everything that was going on, the elder knew that was going to be the case for most. he slowly pushed himself up into a sitting position and gave his chest a few licks, not that it did much to help his pelt. the tremors were strong and he did have some difficulty staying upright without some balance. there was also an unfamiliar odor this morning that caused him to scrunch up his nose in distaste. hopefully, these tremors would stop, otherwise, it would be difficult to get anything done, that was for sure.

[ post two - ★ ]

Postby wildsight » Sat May 30, 2020 10:47 am

❝ ── HEATHERFROST. warrior. 36 moons. female. mentors pyrepaw. dawn patrol.
The gray and white warrior stared at the ground as it trembled more furiously. She glanced at her apprentice, shaking her head before moving to his side. Obviously, something wasn't right though she couldn't imagine what it could be. Well, there really was only two things it could possibly be. Neither of which she wanted to imagine was happening right at this moment. Heatherfrost could barely keep her thoughts together, trying to make sense of everything that was happening. With a huff she turned to Moonbliss at the molly's words. "Possibly. It would explain the strange scent as well", she said as she narrowed her gaze. Surely Starclan wouldn't send twolegs after them as their final act before abandoning them? Surely? She swiped her tongue over her muzzle, wrinkling her nose with disgust as if she had just tasted rotten prey. Honestly, they needed to get out of here. But doing so with the ground shaking wasn't easy. The tremors grew worse and a strange sound came to her ears from the distance. Finally, the tremors began to grow quieter and Heatherfrost blinked. "We should move on quickly, before anything else happens. I'm sure things can't be good at camp", she said knowing the camp would probably be in quite a state upon their return. Still, she wasn't about to stay out here any longer than needed.

The warrior molly noted on the way back that the strange smell was coming somewhere from the west. Suddenly, she noticed a strange shape in the distance. It almost seemed like a large creature, but it was too far away to see exactly what it was. "Look, over there! Surely, that is the work of twolegs?", she asked as she motioned over in that direction. Perhaps, they should tell of this sighting once they got back to camp. Surely, it couldn't be anything good. If, twolegs were moving into the area the clan was in danger. She kneaded the ground with her paws for a few moments, a habit she had developed over the past few moons. As soon as they got back they would have to tell the others. Of course, this would be news that none of them would want to hear.

Heatherfrost led the rest of the patrol back to camp, noticing the rest of her clanmates seemed to be in a bad state. Some seemed more shaken up than others, but there was quite a disturbance in the ear that she could hardly stand it. There was a faint hint of fear scent in the air, but one could hardly smell it under the scent that had taken over Cloudclan's territory. By now the tremors had quieted, though she somewhat doubted they had gone for good. Letting out a sigh, she merely stared around the camp unsure of what to do at the time being.
