now that it was newleaf, cherrystar was hoping to bring back a better haul for her clanmates. everyone was so new to clan life, they were still getting used to providing for themselves. therefore, the prey store remained low despite how often they got out to patrol.
well, cherrystar would keep a positive attitude anyways! the only thing to come of thinking negatively would be worsened results, and she definitely couldn’t let that happen.
she had to provide for her clan, she was their leader, afterall! cherrystar decided to try her best to keep a positive outlook despite the hardships, how would orchidclan stay positive if she couldn’t?

Their attention which should have been focused on hunting was distracted by a strange scent in the air. Bumblehaze smelt it first and recognised it as smells of other cats. Multiple cats. There was probably a rogue group close to their territory. Will they pursue the threat or ignore it?

Flame that Rises from Ashes returns home with her mouse and sets it amongst the prey pile. She greets Stream that Glistens Silver in the process, and while she takes a Minnow to eat she decides to share tongues. They speak about the good fortune their clan has had as well as the dreams they shared with the Moon Cats recently. Once finished eating, the pair retire to take a nap. Later that evening, The Sun Keeper takes Stream out to go on a late night patrol.

mouse had returned to camp early the previous day due to her feverish demeanor. as her medic had advised, she spent several minutes chewing on dried oak leaves, but her features twisted in annoyance and they soon feel from her jaw. after some much needed rest, the she-cat's steps were more confident come morning. upon seeing several of the others had already left, she sprung to catch up with her duties, a flutter of worry seeping into her mind. it wasn't like her to sleep in. this feeling soon diminished as the feline took in her surroundings, taking note of all the new growth reaching up through melting snow. newleaf was her favorite season, and she went about her duties with newfound optimism.

elsewhere, toad and squirrel had just fallen silent, their previous argument over various clan politics failing to come to an agreement. they walked beside each other, but both remained upset with the other. for the moment, they put this aside as they scavenged for anything that would be of use to their beloved clan.

Today's morning patrol was quite a unusual band of cats due to the complexities back home with Dovewing and Clouded dreamer's sudden disappearance. Honeystripes was stuck at home taking over leadership duties so he had to leave his apprentice's training in a another cat's paws, today that ended up being Cowbell and Heartworm. Two tabby bicolors who came from similar walks of life as kittypets yet already came to the court with exceptional fighting and hunting skills, two of the clan's strongest assets. Everybody looked up to Heartworm with admiration and a twinkle in their eyes, she installed fear in others due to the cold shoulder she gave everybody but they were all happy to have her on their side as nobody wanted to feel her claws against them. While Cowbell was a newer recruit, he still showed off great talents in his patrols and seemed to bring home the juiciest prey to this clanmates. The two were so similar yet distant, knowing little to nothing about one another or the clan they've found themselves in but nobody would know their thoughts better than the other. Maybe this patrol would be a good chance to truly realize how much they were alike and that they didn't have to put up a guard around one another, Despite being a part of the clan for for months, Heartworm was yet to make a friend. Yet right in front of her was the friendliest fella with shared experiences and tense eagerness for attention which she could lend to him, let alone maybe some advice on his hunting posture.

Dreampaw's head hung a little lower than her usual cheerful self due to lack of her mother's presence around camp, hopefully soon she would return and maybe they would see a glimpse or catch a scent of their grateful leader.

gourdstar looked across her land with strained eyes, her claws hooking perfectly to the slick rocks while she followed the lapping channels. she took in a deep breath whilst she walked, inhaling the scent of the swaying pine and the crisp air swirling through her fur, tugging and whisking and inviting her to play. she swept her plumed tail against the gusts and paused to view the rushing waters, having thought she saw something worth splashing in after- but nothing was there beyond her own lonely reflection.

she stared a little longer before sighing and continuing onward, deciding there was no point in wasting precious daylight this way. maybe she'll check her borders, and look for twigs to better reinforce her dens with. [123 words]

Bumblehaze stalked quietly through the grass following the scent. To his misfortune, the rogue group was experienced with stealth. Perhaps among them were cats that, unlike Bumblehaze, were born in the wild and being good at noticing things allowed them to survive until now. Despite his best efforts, Bumblehaze made enough sound to be spotted. Before he could react and consider running away the stray group attacked him. Surprised and outnumbered, he had little chance for victory, but he would have to give the fight his all anyway if he wanted to stay alive. The group had three cats with dark coats, one of them arched it's back and hissed menacingly, while the other two swiftly covered the distance to Bumblehaze. The first one swung his front paws with claws bared at Bumble's face, but the cat defended himself while trying to swipe at the attacker. The other one bit his teeth deep into Bumble's back paw and kept holding on, as if it tried to rip it off, while Bumblehaze clawed and bit at the other cat.
The aggressors weren't particularly strong. They seemed to realise that even if they killed Bumblehaze it would get them nowhere, so as suddenly as they attacked, they decided to retreat. They rushed out of the territory, casting back menacing looks. Battle over. +5XP
Bumblehaze's back leg got badly injured during the fight. He will have to eat some herbs and spend a couple of days home to heal his injuries. -35% HP. Cannot be sent out for 2 posts. Requires Raspberry Leaves, Marigold and Dried Oak Leaves to heal.

Limping, with his paw bleeding heavily and a few new scratches on his body, Bumblehaze made his way home. If only he can reach it and get some rest, he will get better. But, suddenly, he stopped in his tracks. Impossible and yet he knew it was true. He sniffed the air once more to confirm his worries. There were more unknown cats in the area. Could they be part of the previous group? Either way, he would have to decide what to do about them. Will he pursue the threat or ignore it?
