...I feel like this would be an unpopular opinion and that’s super valid because I can understand how drastic that change would be but... I do like the idea of a site-wide auction house

Shian wrote:If you're looking for solutions, I'd say an "easy" way to fix this would be to have a site-wide auction house like the myriad of other pet collecting games.

A place where we can set up offers: "I have this pet, I want this/these pets" and the system would be semi-automatic so you wouldn't have to wait for a trade partner to come online. Just put pets in slots and as long as the id matches (this dog is a pink sorb and the other is a grinner), the trade goes through automatically.

That way, if you're looking for a sunjewel, you can see every sunjewel that is up for trade in the auction house at the same time and take the one that has the lowest payment.

People asking for ludicrous amounts wouldn't even be considered because there was always someone who will trade a pet for cheaper.

No more hidden deals between players, no more behind the scenes trading. Everything would be largely public. We wouldn't need rarity guides, dozens of "what is this worth" threads because anyone at any given time could look up what a sunjewel is going for or even what the last 5 trades that included a sunjewel was.

It would radically change CS from a casual pet collecting site of course.

I actually really enjoy this idea. I highly doubt such a system would be implemented, but it's a good idea nonetheless.

I actually love the idea of an auction house, a lot, the only clear problem I see with it is that there's just too many pets on CS. If the only pets that existed were lists it would be simple enough but nobody is going to set up an official auction for every random uncommon they have (I have like 1300 extras right now and that's just the rares).

I'd enjoy having an auction house / marketplace as long as the regular trading system still stays in place as an alterantive, cause oh man would I ever hate the hassle of setting up bulk trades and hoard trades with all the gazillion pets I'm willing to take or offer for each thing, aha.
It'd also be a first-come-first-serve deal, so it'd be impractical for people who want to be able to pick between offers. (Say you are willing to accept multiple pets but you do want some more than others and wanna see if you can get them.)

Kinda like having both the AH and Crossroads on FR, I guess. Be able to put stuff up for public sale or auction, but keep the ability to make private deals with other players anyway.

Are there though? There's a TON of other petsites that came out around the same time as CS and can manage this just fine.

That would be kind of awesome actually....

I think the most radical change of this would be that pets would have to get official names so you could search for them.
There might be ways around this. Use the archive as a start point and click on the pet you want to see listings for. Without names though, there would have to be some serious hoop jumping for how to list pets you want or have.
This would negate the current system of being community named. :/

I admittedly don't play a lot of other pet sites, so I don't really know if there's one that is more similar to CS in this sense and has a marketplace system, but thinking about it, one thing that differentiates CS from the sites that I do play (FR, Aywas and sometimes Howrse) is that the latter all have an easily accessible site currency that's used for the majority of trades.
If you buy or sell items and dragons on FR, you're much more likely to be earning and spending treasure and gems than to directly swap one thing for the other. Same with Aywas and BP/GP. Howrse doesn't even let you trade horse for horse, and strongly limits your ability to swap items.
CS only has C$, which are an exclusively premium currency, so that makes the process of buying and selling things a tad more tedious because if it's not a C$ trade then it has to consist of pet and item offers.

The problem isn't the volume of existing pets, the problem is how many different designs there are. I know most people don't have a specific goal in mind for each one when they put their extras in a trade group.

Giving pets official names would be awesome and whether or not we have an auction house like that I'd still love for that to be a thing. It's so hard to describe what you want without resorting to pictures.

I've actually suggested the idea of an in-game currency that is different from C$, the real money currency, years ago. I think it would be a simple, smart way to simplify trades so people aren't hunting for the one person who has the specific combination of pets they want for years. If I remember correctly I was told by staff that they don't want specific hard number values attached to the pets.

I'm just a randomer popping in out of nowhere here, but I have been reading the whole time c:

I just had to come in and say I like the idea of having the option of a public "auction house" thing, too. Key word here of course being "option"; I definitely wouldn't want to see the current trading system go away (among other things, it would probably be bad for those of us who like to gift people)

To throw another comparison out there, it's not a petsite, but it would be kind of like how the Pokémon games have had the GTS for public trades, as well as just having regular old trading between two players

^ This is a very good point, though. Such a problem makes me worry that a system like this might not be an option, which is a really big shame

I'd love to see an auction house for those of us who like to buy and sell pets with C$, it would be so much easier than searching for others wanting to buy/sell with C$ through the trade forum and if set up similarly to FR people would still be able to set their own prices so there wasn't an "official" CS value, but I don't really see how it would work for pet for pet trades?
