Maverick and Kit originally met through an advertized virtual reality game show! The main goal of this supposed game, as simple as it may seem, was to defeat monsters and move on to collect the treasure at the end. Contestants would then be paired in two's based on how well their personalities meshed and would split the prize at the end. It must have been a sick joke to pair Mav and Kit - something to give those watching at home a little laugh. The two seemed to bring out the worst in each other; only to prove beneficial when moving forward. What wasn't advertised about the game, was that the monsters were based on specific fears of each contestant, and the only way to move forward was to conquer them. As it would seem, what devastated one, was hardly anything to the other. It was miraculous how the two of them had actually gone through the entire game, only to claim their prize which seemed to be a newly kindled love. Of course it would be, the media loved drama. But who were they to complain?

They met during a strange time in history, a time of great changes when the very last footholds of Ancient Greek religion that barely survived through Roman times were falling as Christianity continued to spread throughout Europe. Maria was a devout Christian, worshiping a single god, while Phemonoë believed in many. They became fascinated with each other's differences, and eventually those differences became what made them whole. They have one daughter, Kleisodike, and they weave clothing to make a livelihood on their small farm, practicing a mix of both religions.
