Rise is closing after today, February 1, 2020.
Our existing rules detailed on this thread still apply (with minor exceptions allowing users to keep using their official references under certain conditions.)

• You may use official Rise art reference for personal use only on ChickenSmoothie, ToyHouse, your personal Rise websites, and Artfight. Do not upload them to deviantart or social media. Always provide credit by linking back to this thread, please!

• Rise cats still may not be sold. If you give your cat away, you may not give it away with the original art.
(Exception: If someone was a part of the Rise community before it closed and owns Rise cats already, they may use the official artwork if the cat is transferred to them.)

• Ask the artist for permission before transferring your cat into other closed species. This is a CS rule concerning art use. It is not exclusive to Rise, and it is common courtesy. (Check page 77 for more extensive explanation).

• You may, of course, draw/order art and new references for your characters. You may give them scars, change build/breed, give items, etc (do not edit the official art... do so on a different reference.) They are your characters.

• Always credit the original designer.

Rise is an adoptable community based on Erin Hunter's Warrior Cats series ...because who doesn't need a ton of warrior cat characters? It is highly focused around world-building and character development in order to encourage users to use their adopted cats rather than just let them collect dust. We strive to be an open-minded, welcoming community where anyone and everyone will feel comfortable and happy.

Rise 2.0 has been designed to be more accommodating to non-traditional groups and be more relaxed.

• (added 11/7/19) Accounts must be 3 months old and have at least 100 posts to join Rise

• Please be nice and do not pester Rise staff. Respect all others.
• Negativity/harassing behaviors will not be tolerated.
• Art/writing used for Rise must follow CS rules.
• Give credit to the artist for the design.
• Rise characters must have realistic designs.

• If you are banned from Rise OR Chicken Smoothie, you may keep the characters, BUT:

- You may NOT keep using the official Rise reference art in any capacity.
- Your cats will be marked as deceased within Rise.

• You may order 1 custom maximum per month. Customs reset on the first.

• Transfers between Rise clans are allowed.

- When transactions are made, both parties must post on the cat’s thread.
- The original owner must post an amendment on the archive thread.
- There is a two-month cool down for transfers/sales of cats after the initial adoption and every time there is a new owner
- Deceased cats cannot be included in transactions.

Previously, bred kits have been allowed to be sold, traded, or gifted immediately after being posted.
Now, bred kits posted as of today may only be gifted immediately after being posted. They may not be traded until the 2 month cooldown is over.

Previously, we have allowed members to trade, gift, and sell living cats within Rise.
Now, cats obtained by any means before this date may be sold, traded, or gifted. Cats obtained by any means after this date(4/15) may only be traded or gifted. Accepting payment for a Rise cat will result in an immediate ban.
To Clarify: The rule comes out today. User 1 wants to sell a cat they got at least 2 months ago. They can, so they sell it to User 2. User 2 can't sell it since they obtained the cat after the rule was made.



• If you sell Rise characters outside of Rise:

- You may NOT give away the official reference artwork.
-You must alert Dia. so that the character can be labeled deceased within Rise.

• You may use Rise characters outside of Rise, but:

-You may NOT use the official Rise art outside of Rise.
-If you want to use the character elsewhere, you must use different art.

• You may breed Rise characters outside of Rise, but:

- the offspring will NOT be a part of Rise
• Cats labeled deceased within Rise may be used as a character outside of Rise.
• You must submit a form in the archive thread to kill off a cat and have it marked deceased in Rise.

-Cats will not die or lose lives unless you specifically request it in the archives.
• Deceased cats do not count towards your cat limit.

• Additional scars must be earned through a form/ticket process, typically on the archive thread.
• Deafness/blindness tickets may be earned similar to scars, typically on the archive thread.

Staff Rules

• Guest artists may make:

» 1 custom cat for themselves upon hiring.
» Adoptables only, NOT customs or founders.

• Artists may make:

» 1 custom cat fore themselves upon hiring.
» 3 custom cats for themselves yearly (every 4 months) provided that they are active.
» A special birthday custom, provided that they are active and confirm the custom with Dia before posting.
» Adoptables, paid customs for others and free breedings.

• Artists are expected to:

» Be active and produce realistic, quality designs.

» They will be removed if they are inactive without communicating with Dia.
» Make all adopts on oekaki canvas.
» Add scars and such to designs at will.
» Ask for payment for customs.

» Using only the custom payment agreed upon by staff.
» Open up to 5 custom slots at a time, no more than 2 times a month.
» Complete orders in a timely manner.

» Custom orders should be completed in the same month that they are ordered.
» Judge competitions within a month.

» Dia. will take them over if you fail to judge them.
» Discuss awarding a RU with the rest of staff, if they would like to award one.

» A decision will be reached in 24 hours.
» Let Dia. know if you want to make a milestone adopt.

• Artists should NOT:

» Ask for payment for breedings.
» Post kit designs without adult designs
» Make extensive lineart edits or rare conditions without Dia.'s permission.

» Ex: missing limbs, short limbs, hairless cats, male calicos/torties, etc.
» Promise a RU before a staff decision has been reached.

Ex: Don't start or close a competition saying there will be a RU.
» Take more custom orders before previous orders are completed.
» Open / accept customs during the last week of the month.

Step One: get a founder

» You can either get your founder through normal adoption processes, or you can get it custom made by one of our artists for free.
» To redeem your custom founder, please fill out the form below. An artist will claim it and create it for you.

» You may only redeem your free custom founder once, even if you do not like it, do not claim it, or trade it away.
» You may request small scars to be added to your founder.

Step Two: creating a thread

» Your thread can be set up however is easiest for you.
» You may use another site such as deviantart, toyhouse, your own website, etc to store your clans as long as the site does not contain content that is not allowed on CS.

» No personal information, inappropriate language, etc.
» COPPA members are exempt due to their restrictions.

» If they'd like to participate in Rise after they have their restrictions lifted they should make a thread and post in the archive ASAP.
» Please do not store Rise cats in RP Character storage.

Step Three: leveling up; don't worry, it's easy and fun from here!

» You start off at Level 0.
» You are able to level up and grow your clan by completing world building and character development tasks.
» Post on the archive thread to level up your clan.

» You do not have to wait for confirmation that you leveled up.
» However, you will be contacted if your level-up tasks do not fulfill the requirements.
Step Four: beyond the basics

» When you reach level 10, you have the opportunity to develop a second clan!
» You do not get another founder; you can use cats you already have, win an adopt, or order a custom
» You can transfer your cats between clans, especially if it makes sense story-wise
» Please maintain the clans on separate threads
» Your second clan starts at level 0

» Everything works the same way as for your first clan
» You cannot reuse things from your first clan to level your second clan

» Each task must be completed before you can get to the next level.
» Only the high ranks are limited.

You can now choose what your high ranks include. You are not limited to leader, deputy, and medicine cat.
However, you must always have at least one leader.
» Drawn scenes should be at least flat colored.

» Characters must be recognizable.
» Character art should be at least a flat-colored headshot.
» Written scenes/descriptions should be at least 200 words.
» Tasks fulfilled through an RP must include 3 posts from each party, and each post should be at least 100 words.

» The RP posts should be linked to or logged on the clan thread.
» Other minimums will be listed with the tasks.

Note: This has been updated from Rise 1.0 to be more accommodating to non-traditional groups. High ranks are still limited, but what your high ranks are is not limited. This means you can have shared leadership or not include medicine cats in your high ranks, for example.

• There is no longer a time limit that you must wait to age kittens up.
• As long as the final growth is not a surprise (such as in an adoptable), the adult version will be posted at the same time as the kitten.

Additionally, more options/milestones for leveling have been added to limit the monotony of leveling Rise clans.
You do NOT have to go back and redo levels that you have already passed if you don't want to. The archive is proof that you reached that goal prior to this update.

Level 0:

You can have: 1 cat total (your founder)

» Describe your clan's territory (100+ words)

Level 1:

You can have: 3 cats total (limits: 1 high rank)

» Describe your clan (100+ words)
» Give your leader a history or personality (200+ words each)
» Write about or draw a scene showing your leader meeting one of your new clan members

Level 2:

You can have: 7 cats total (limits: 2 high ranks)

» Write about or draw a scene about your clan's camp
» Describe your leader and deputy's(or other high rank) relationship (100+ words)
» Describe your clan's reputation (50+ words)

Level 3:

You can have: 10 cats total (limits: 3 high ranks)

» Write about or draw your medicine cat (or third high ranking cat)
» Give at least one of your cats a history and personality (200+ words each)
» Write about or draw a scene of your choice

Level 4:

You can have: 15 cats total (Limits: 3 high ranks)

» Describe a clan tradition (100+ words)
» Write about or draw a scene of a clan meeting
» Write about or draw a scene of your choice

Level 5:

You can have: 20 cats total (limits: 4 high ranks)

» Write about or draw a patrol
» Write about or draw a meeting between your leader, medicine cat, or applicable rank with the ancestors (no ancestors? make it just a dream)
» Write about or draw a scene of your choice

Level 6-10:

Each level after Level 5, you can get 5 additional cats (limits: 4 high ranks)

» Draw or order art of 2 characters
» Create a personality or history for 2 characters (200+ words each)
» Write about or draw 2 scenes of your choice


Level 11-15:

Each level after Level 5, you can get 5 additional cats (limits: 4 high ranks)

» Create a personality or history for 2 characters (200+ words each)
» Write about or draw 2 scenes of your choice
» Pick ONE of the following

- describe what your group looks for in allies or enemies
- describe a relationship between two cats in your group (may be done twice)
- how does the group address danger?
- describe your clan's faith, religion, superstitions, etc
- how does your group address outsiders?


Level 16-20:

Each level after Level 5, you can get 5 additional cats (limits: 4 high ranks)

» Create a personality or history for 2 characters (200+ words each)
» Write about or draw 2 scenes of your choice
» Pick ONE of the following

- write a detailed history of your clan
- draw or write a scene about a cat seeing a prophecy/interpreting something as a sign
- describe a relationship between two cats in your group (may be done twice)
- describe how ranks are determined within your clan
- describe a celebration/ceremony taking place


Level 21+:

Each level after Level 5, you can get 5 additional cats (limits: 4 high ranks)

» Create a personality or history for 2 characters (200+ words each)
» Write about or draw 2 scenes of your choice
» Pick ONE of the following

- describe a relationship between two cats in your group
- write a scene where your group faced a threat
- write a scene where the whole group was happy
- flesh out one aspect of your clan's world/lore/etc that has not been described yet

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I use NPC cats or clans?
Non-playable characters and clans may be used to help flesh out your stories, but they may not be used as the main focus in leveling up tasks. You may have an NPC clan on your border instead of a user-owned Rise clan.
NPC cats/clans may be used as placeholders until you adopt or order a cat that fits their role, or find another member to border with.

Can my cat be related to someone else's cat? Can my cat be related to another foundation cat?
Yes! Interacting with other members and their cats is encouraged. And yes, you can create pedigrees and histories however you like.

Can I use another site to store my clan?
Yes, as long as the site is appropriate for CS and doesn't include any information not allowed on CS.

Will customs/adopts be taken away like founders?
No. You do not have to meet a deadline for customs/adopts like you do for founders.

Does art/writing have to be made by me to level up?
Unless the task says that you can order art, the piece should be made by you. If it says that you can order art, you may use art trades or commissions. Gifted art should not be used for tasks.

Can you make *insert breed here*?
Specific breeds are reserved for special occasions such as milestone adopts and thus will typically not be seen in regular adopts or customs.
This also applies to mutations.

Do I have to wait until the archive is updated to continue?
No. As long as you fulfilled the requirements you do not have to wait for the archive update or a confirmation for your level up. You will be contacted to make adjustments if you do not meet requirements.

Can I reuse art/writing to level up?
Yes, you can use art/writing from competitions to level up. You just can't use the same piece to level up multiple times.

Do HM customs, event-earned customs, etc count as monthly customs?
Yes they do.

Do I need to follow the traditional ranks, warrior code, clan structure, naming system, etc?
You are encouraged to develop your clan as you like, so you do not need to stick with the traditions created in the Warriors series.

Can my cat have powers?
Short answer: no. This is not a fantasy arpg, so if it isn't reasonable to assume can exist in the real world, please avoid it (ex: winged cats, fire-breathing cats, lazer eyes, etc).
Ideas such as reincarnation are allowed. Dreams from Starclan are not considered powers. Please ask if you're unsure.

Can my cat have more scars?
To add more scars to your cat, please fill out the scar form in the archive thread! Scars are also available as challenge prizes.

What accessories are allowed?
Even though Rise rules say accessories may not be added, there are a few exceptions. These include natural items that are best described as "not requiring thumbs to wear." Examples include feathers, leaves, and flowers stuck into fur or pigments/mud smeared onto fur. Collars are allowed as long as the cat's history reflects time spent with humans. Bracelets, earrings, necklaces, shirts, armor, ballgowns, etc are not allowed.

Can my cat be spayed/neutered/declawed?
Yes, cats who spent time with twolegs in their history may be fixed or declawed. You may also decide to make a character sterile naturally and never let them have kits.

Can I have another clan?
When you reach level 10, you may make a second clan.

If I quit rise can I keep my cats?
If you quit Rise or CS, you may keep your cats but may no longer use official Rise art. Your cats will be marked deceased.
If you are banned from Rise, you may keep your cats but may no longer use official Rise art. Your cats will be marked deceased.

Can I join if I haven't read Warriors?
Yes! You are encouraged to still join for the world-building. The community is happy to help.

Can I change my cat's rank or information? Can I use a cat as a temporary high rank placeholder for level purposes?
Yes.

How can I kill off a character or have my leader lose a life?
Please post the form in the archive thread. Dead cats will be labeled deceased.

Should I ask the artist/ping an artist if a competition closes?
Rise protocol is to wait a month until after the competition closes before asking the artist about it. If a month passes, please alert Dia to the competition.

Can my cat have physical or mental disabilities?
Deaf/blind/mute cats can be achieved through adoption or through earning a ticket on the archive thread. (added 1/27/19)

Human conditions will not be allowed specifically, but you may describe them in such a way that your cats would describe them. Examples: frequently nervous, frequently sad, frequently has pain. If you are unsure if it would be allowed, please ask.
Ask before giving your cat any serious conditions. Conditions that would make life in the wild very difficult/impossible will not be allowed. Physical conditions that affect a large portion of the character's body will likely not be allowed.
Please make sure that you are representing the conditions respectfully. You are encouraged to put a lot of thought and research into how it affects your character and character development.

SO WHAT'S THE DEAL WITH "WARRIORS REALISM"?
Realism standards have been relaxed for Rise 2.0. Individual members can be as realistic as they want in their own clan, but there will be the opportunity for more variety now for those who choose to relax with the standards.

EYE COLOR is now only restricted to natural colors (no red, purple, black, etc). Blue can occur with any base. Heterochromia, while still uncommon, can occur any time.
WHITE MARKINGS can be more "abstract." They should not be patchy like an inverse cow or too intense. They should not form sharp, distinct shapes (like perfect hearts). They should not resemble mutations such as those used for milestones.
CAT DESCRIPTIONS will resemble the Warriors allegiances instead of including complicated, technical terms. (Example: Blue-grey cat with gold eyes). Artists will be allowed to add an additional technical description if they want, and members can request one from a willing staff member if the artist does not provide it.
