Zen originally came from the same pack as Takita, and was known for being an expert tracker. However, unlike those who allowed themselves to get lost in the glory and fame that their unique skills brought them. Zane never allowed it to either get to his head or damage his friendship with Takita and the younger members of Maverick's pack. Often using his skills in tracking to alert his pack of any danger, prey or something unusual. In fact, he would even go as far as to use his talent to help Caleb and Cassandra find things that bullies would often take from Samantha. Considering that alongside Takita, he had become a close friend of theirs and vice versa.
Therefore, when Zen had learned that Caleb and his siblings had survived the fall of their father's pack, he was more than willing to help Takita track them down and offer their assistance. Which resulted in him joining the newly made pack alongside his best friend. Zen is now the pack's official tracker, and has often helped out his pack in tracking down enemies who may be a threat to the humans living in their territory.
Since joining the pack, he seems to get along fairly well with both Nicholas and Finlay.
