"You know, i have many ideas to help the local sea life." Arati looked down, smiling to herself. "For starters i have changed to all metal or paper reusable straws to help out the amount of plastic that is being released into the ocean every year." She held up a small shiny chrome coloured straw that matched her collar. "See? Every time i go out to eat i tell the wait staff to hold off and i use my own straw to mean one less one was used every day. It may not be a lot but it is something! A big change can only start out small and grow over time, and there is no better time to start then the future." She nodded her head carrying on preaching about what she would do to impact the environment. "I also will be changing to single use paper containers, or using reusable items to store my food in at home! Paper is much easier to break down, and when i pack myself a snack i would rather use paper then plastic! OR scrap it and one day be able to use reusable plastic containers!" She finished off atlast, smiling at her statement.

What are some steps you can take to save coral reefs/sea animals?

Many of us know about the many more obvious solutions to help preserve marine life, such as reducing plastic usage and recycling the plastic that we do use. Something less obvious to a lot of people is to eat sustainably fished seafood! Many of the oceans animals have trouble finding food because of overfishing, or humans have overfished certain species to the brink of extinction. There are nifty apps that are free to download to check what types of fish are sustainably caught, and which types of seafood you should limit yourself to eating less frequently. As for coral, something really important to do for them is to use sunscreen that will not damage them! Certain chemicals within sunscreen are highly detrimental to reefs, so it is better to use reef-safe sunscreen, however no sunscreen is 100% great for the health of our coral reefs.

“Well, for starters, we can use less plastic. And I know, super cliche response, but so many animals eat our plastic and get harmed. It’s one of the biggest problems facing sea life,” Sunny says. “I suppose that I should start with the more minor things, now shouldn’t I? Oh. That was a bit insensitive. Any kind of problem sea creatures have to deal with isn’t minor. I really should learn a bit more about these things before I open my mouth.” Sunny blushes profusely and rubs her hoof into the soft sand of the shore, spinning it in a circle. She’s about as red as a tomato when she realizes that Enke isn’t even paying attention to her. He’s staring at something over Sunny’s shoulder.
“Um... hello? Im taking to you.” Enke snaps his head towards Sunny, widening his eyes nervously.
“Uh, yes. Of course. Save the penguins!” He says. Sunny shakes her head, wondering why some bulls always have something else on their mind.
“Really? Penguins? I was talking about plastic. I haven’t even mentioned any kind of animal, let alone a penguin.
Enke nods, clearly annoyed.
“Well excuuuuuuuse me! I’m not the one who’s totally ignoring the person they’re trying to talk to.”
“Ok, ok. Go on, then,” Enke says.
Sunny clears her throat and begins to pace. She always gets like that when she’s about to lay down the facts.
“Ship strikes. Yeah, whales are getting hit by ships! Can you believe that? Oil spills. Climate change. Open-net fishing. Pollution in general.” Sunny stops to take a breath, her cheeks red from all the talking.
“Captivity. Tourism. Habitat loss, for goodness sake! Even freaking pesticides are getting in the ocean!” Sunny stops for another breath and prepares to talk to even more.
“We. Need. To. End this.” Sunny slaps her forearm onto her other hoof at each pause for extra emphasis.
“And the only way to do that is to work together. Super cheesy, right? Yeah, maybe, but it also works. So get your fat butt off of mom’s couch right this instant, and go volunteer to clean up oil. Or help pick up trash on the beaches. For the love of God, even just throwing away your soda can in a recycling bin would help! Just do something, you ignorant fools!” Sunny stops, gasping for breath. Enke nods vigorously, slightly frightened by Sunny, who is now standing in front of him with a crazed look in her eyes.
“Mic drop,” she says, picking up Tahiti and bringing her along with her as she walks away.

“In order to help the ocean and all the creatures that rely on it, we really have to make others aware of the damage being done now. Our actions caused these problems, so we have to be the ones to right our wrongs. Educating others is arguably the most important thing we can do. Some people do not believe in climate change. Others say that there is nothing to be done. However, simply picking up trash on the beach is a huge step in keeping our planet healthy.” Cecelia frowned, picking up some trash left on the beach by some rude buttermilks. “Even though some of the trash might not be yours, does it really matter? The planet’s health is in our hands. We are the only ones who can protect it.” She nods her head in the direction of some pamphlets being passed out. “You can always volunteer at a local organization to clean up areas of your neighborhood. A lot of trash on the streets end up in our waterways.” She motions towards a ship out in the ocean. “If you like eating sea creatures, give your business to those who fish ethically.” Cecelia’s face turned red from talking so much. “Oh! Finally, don’t feed fish bread! Bread actually damages the fish and most end up suffering and eventually dying. Every creature relies on us to make good choices.”

What are some steps you can take to save coral reefs/sea animals?
There are many steps I can take to help save the coral reefs and sea animals. For example, to help shrink the increasing amounts of trash and plastic flowing into the sea, I can do many things. First, I can always be sure to pick up and throw away trash I see around me. And when it is something that can be recycled, I can be sure to recycle it. I can also limit my use of plastic straws and bags, by purchasing a metal reusable straw, and resusable bags. By doing this I'll be able to minimize my use of plastic. To help save other creatures and the coral reefs, I can be an advocator for organizations that help to save them. (123)

gonna ruin the streak of otter responding. also on mobile rn
I’m on a college campus right now that has a lot of recycling and composting bins and I think that’s a great idea! I’m trying to recycle more and use less plastic, even if that means carrying an empty plastic water bottle home to recycle (although normally I just bring my own) or bringing my own reusable straw to restaurants (although I typically just go without a straw unless I need it for a milkshake or drink with a lid)! I’ve recently learned how bad chemical bases sunscreens are, so I know I need to switch to a coral reef safe sunscreen when I’m at the beach.

The biggest part is raising awareness and leading the way through example. "Do your part" will only go as far as one's self and the people who inquire; being vocal and teaching others who are willing to learn and interested in such things, that's going to start a movement, which is going to be the only way to reach the ears of those who don't want to listen, who don't believe, and who staunchly sit on their behinds and exist only in their money-lined world while they gather profits over the destruction of habitats and wildlife. The orcas... they're not my fight, but I will speak of them and teach on behalf of my brothers, because they were very vocal about their interests and concerns, and their desire to help... and they swept me up in it. Now I'm in their shoes, doing the same thing, and eventually there will be enough voices and minds that there will be no ignoring us and our cause... we just hope that it doesn't come too late, at least for the Southern Residents.

Pollution threatens our oceans on a physical and chemical level. There's the actual trash part of it, which in and of itself is costly to clean up, but it can be done with relative ease with skimmers and the like. Then, there's the chemicals: oil and petroleum, fertilizer from field runoff, industrial chemicals from factories, and anything in or on the physical trash. This gunk is very difficult to remove, and the problem is compounded when the waters warm from climate change. Fighting for regulations on ships (including and most especially tankers, with their thousands of gallons of crude oil), as well as stricter penalties for dumping trash in the ocean or chemicals into groundwater... those are probably the best and most effective ways to save the habitat and its creatures. And while dealing with these monster polluters, recycling and avoiding throwaway plastic items can help reduce one's own (most likely significantly smaller) carbon footprint.

Electing officials that support environmental efforts (and who aren't in the pockets of big business) is another good step that a group can take, as these regulations are more likely to be put into and enforced by law by such individuals. And, with an environmentally sympathetic leader, the whole culture of a community may start to change. From a community to a city, a city to a county, a county to a state, state to a region and region to a country. And from there? Maybe the world. Or, at least, probably a decent part of it.

What are some steps you can take to save coral reefs/sea animals?

I can use metal straws instead of plastic, bamboo toothbrushes instead of plastic, shampoo bars instead of bottles, soap bars, beeswax instead of cling film, use reuseable cups instead of single use, get a reuseable metal water bottle. Every time I go to the beach you can pick up litter, reduce use of single use items. There are many many ways you can help. Even getting a reuseable shopping bag and avoiding unnecessary plastic on loose foods (nuts, vegetables, fruits). The main one is to recycle everything. As well as try to create as little waste as possible and not buy new, buy second hand where possible.

What are some steps you can take to save coral reefs/sea animals?:

There are many steps that I, along with many others, can do to help save and protect our sea life and coral reefs. From decreasing our use of plastics to helping to assure our beaches stay clean to helping organizations whose missions are to protect the ocean to even watching how much seafood we consume. In the end, no matter which we choose, all these options will add up to the effort in helping protect our oceans and the life it holds. And to make my own impact on saving our sealife, I choose to focus on all of these options. While I am still one single person, in the end, it still counts. I will do everything in my power to cut back on things that affect the end result, such as swapping plastic straws for metal straws or soap bottles for soap bars. Not only swapping but continuing to recycle things that are meant to be recycled and that do not contaminate recyclable objects.

What are some steps you can take to save coral reefs/sea animals?
"The number one step that most everyone knows to do is to reduce plastic waste, as well as carbon waste. When carbon enters the ocean it causes the pH to lower, which is a process known as ocean acidification. These acidic waters can actually dissolve the skeletons in which coral are made of. There are many steps to help with this, including the reduction of plastic waste. Some others include using more sustainable products, iron fertilization, and cutting back on meats (especially beef, "Yeah, for more reasons than that thank you very much"). Coral is very important to marine life as it's often the center for most marine ecosystems and communities. The best way to help marine life is through education. Learn about the places you're visiting, the things you're buying, and the foods you're eating. Be conscious about the Earth and all of the animals we share it with. Sure most of us don't interact with a sea turtle on a daily basis, but marine life is part of a much bigger picture that includes you and me."
"I don't contribute that much to environmental issues."
"Yes you do Rosaline, yes you do. Either way, help out as best you can, for the sake of your little buddy Geraldine."
