Artemis. My mother. The kingdom admired her. She was courageous and would go into battle to lead the army without a thought. Her only weapon was a compound bow made of silver. She dedicated her life to our kingdom. She was envied, admired, and loved. She was a warrior and protected our kingdom.
Soleil. My father. The fiercest guardian the realms knew. He protected his kingdom with his life. He was the image of a perfect kalon, a perfect ruler, simply perfect. He alongside my mother founded this kingdom. Together, they were unstoppable. Indestructible. Invincible. All kingdoms thought twice about invading.
On April 26th, 2015, my mother became ill. I begged her to play dolls with me or to go to the garden to smell the roses. She agreed, wanting the be the best mother possible. Her health took a hit. Day after day, she grew weaker and weaker. Despite all this, she lead the army into battle on the 28th, not wanting to surrender. She died on April 28th, 2015, defending the empire she had built.
The kingdom became devastated. Armies began to invade. Our kingdom fell apart. Yet, it was my father who stood strong, despite all he had faced. He had a funeral for my dear mother. Everyone’s spirits were low, yet he stayed optimistic.
Before her death, I was shy, and little attention was paid to me. After all, why should've they? They had my mother and my father to marvel. After her death, everyone looked at me. They spoke of the resemblance I shared with her and how I would follow her footsteps.
She has the same green eyes
The same silver pink hair
The same glow as she walks
Everyone watched me. Judged me. I didn’t want to be in charge of the kingdom. I wanted to live a normal life. But, life isn’t always fair. My father died. I became queen.
I was the leader of my kingdom. I was the unexpected ruler.
Three Months Later
I stared at my reflection in the pond. The grass was still covered in dew. I enjoyed this moment of peace, it was the only time I got to myself before my hair was primped and I was rushed out into the public to begin my day. In the emerald green water, I saw a young kalon. One that wasn’t meant to rule. A small jellyfish glowed on my tail. I genuinely smiled, something that was very rare. Jam, the small jellyfish on my tail always brought me joy, as there was no one that understood me anymore. I was broken. Cold. Hard.
Small fish swam through the pristine water, their bright colors glowing. My thoughts were interrupted by one of the government officials.
“Amphitrite!! Hurry up! We have a meeting in 2 hours!” I sighed, standing up. I walked inside, planning for the day.
Two hours later, I was standing in the woods with one of the advisors from another kingdom. He was taking us on a tour to discuss why he felt the forest should be cut down to make way for more buildings. I was only half listening. I stared at the trees, their vibrant reds and yellows catching my eye. The sound of crunching of leaves brought me some calm.
It wasn’t that much later when I noticed I was alone. Surrounded by pristine wilderness. Everything was so calm. How could I allow anyone to destroy this?
Two Years Later
I sat on the ground, in the middle of spring. Cherry blossoms were raining down as I read stories to the children of the kingdom. I would never be a substitute for my parents, but I was doing my best. The forest had been preserved and I finally found a purpose to life. Along with that, I found Pan. He sat next to me, bringing me joy. I loved him. I had finally found my role in this world.

Now my story is far from over. In fact, I failed to include the most important part. The time when I finally understood what it was like to go from being a zero to a hero. This is that story
Nature. Freedom. Silence. I ran, craving a moment of freedom. Craving a new life. I was surrounded by pristine wilderness. Everything was so calm. How could I allow anyone to destroy this?
After running from my fears what seemed like days, maybe even weeks, I spotted a small clearing. It was a small village, appearing to have a pristine light. I walked into the light, keeping my head down, hoping not to be recognized. Thankfully, no one knew who I was. I decided to build a new life here.
After months, I had become a part of this new community. Though, I never felt I belonged. I turned to video games. I would spend hours upon hours, playing, playing to get rid of the guilt I felt. The guilt of leaving. No one understood me. Everyone judged me.
I had many arguments with myself, debating on if I should go back. Finally, I mustered the courage to head home. That’s when I met Pan. I was heading home, lost in the middle of the woods. Everything, from the crunch of the leaves to the glow of who knows what scared me. In the dark, a light illuminated. Could it be another kalon? I headed in the direction of the light, hitting a few trees and tripping over roots. It was another kalon!
“Hi! I’m Pan” he said, standing up from his kneeling position, “Who are you?”
I opened my mouth to speak, glad he couldn’t see me blushing in the dark, “I’m Amphitrite. Where are you from?”. The two of us began to talk, ad hours passed as we told each other tales of where we were from. Interrupting us, a loud sound, the sound of a chainsaw to a tree trunk rang through the forest. Suddenly, I remembered what I failed to do. Failed to prevent the destruction of nature. Not bothering to say goodbye to Pan, I ran faster than I had before. I ran toward the ear-splitting noise, not caring about the aches I felt in my feet. I had to stop this.
“STOP!” I bellowed, the kalon with long dark locks looked up at me.
With a hint of sass in her voice, and a distinct British accent she spoke, “And who do you think you are? The princess or something?” She rolled her eyes.
“Actually I am. Princess Amphitrite”
The rest of the story is history. I stopped the destruction of the forest and I became the ruler again.
