Poppet's eyes shot open, her favorite day of the year was here! Quickly getting out of bed she hopped out of her room, in search of the Easter bunny gifts. Her favorite part of Easter was finding the eggs hidden all around her house!
Her nose twitched as she looked around for the first egg.
For some reason she couldn't find any!
Anxiously roaming around she began to life up couch cushions and other various pieces of furniture around her house. No eggs... This was unlike the years before when there would be eggs hidden around, this year there were none.
She began to wonder if she had gotten the day wrong. Was it not Easter after all? No.. She looked! It was definitely Easter!
Her excitement dropped immensely, and a frown grew upon her face. Poppet was looking forward to her egg hunt all year and now that the day had arrived, there are no eggs in sight. She sighed in disappointment.
That's when an idea popped into her head! She has a backyard! Maybe that was where all the eggs had been hidden!
Poppet raced outside, a smile of excitement plastered across her face. Which then immediately dissipated when she saw the backyard. Empty.
Tears begun to well up in her eyes. 364 days of anticipation only to be let down. She thumped her foot in frustration. She waiting all year and the easter bunny never came? How unfair! Its not right!
Her small tantrum was interrupted by a noise coming from inside her house. She froze. No one else lived with her, so who could possibly be in there? She covered her mouth with her paws, trying to be as quiet as possible.
Slowly sneaking around to the window she peered in. There was a large figure bounding around frantically, throwing eggs haphazardly around her house. It was the easter bunny!
She let out a gasp and the easter bunny froze, slowly turning to meet her eyes. Poppet opened the door, "you-you! What are you doing??" She asked.
The easter bunny began throwing eggs again, "no no you shouldn't be awake! Im late! Oh no!" He said quickly. "I will never make it to the rest of the houses in time!" He cried.
Poppet instantly shouted out in excitement "I could help you!"
The Easter bunny looked at her and his 4 baskets of eggs he still needed to deliver. "Know what? That might work. You're really willing to help me out?" He asked.
Poppet grinned widely, taking two baskets and running out the door, "yes yes of course! I think i just found my -new- favorite thing to do for Easter!" She giggled.
From then on, every Easter, poppet was given an extra basket full of eggs for her to bring to her friends and neighbors. It was the most fun thing to do, and she looked forward to it each and every year. Sometimes she thinks back and she's glad the easter bunny was late that one year.
