[ 5 years prior to the divorce ]
The boy sat at his desk, scrolling through his computer. He mumbled under his breath as he opened his drawing tab again, paws slipping around his drawing pad and pen. His wrist curved expertly as lines swirled from the pen, his eyes narrowed in concentration. “Dusk! Where are you?” Dusk sighed, breathless laughter escaping his throat as his little brother called for him. “I’m in my room Alex! Come in buddy.” The younger boy stumbled into his room, looking around in awe. His brother wasn’t really allowed in the room often, so he held a real fascination for the space. Dusk laughed quietly as the 11 year old trampled around the room, looking around wildly. “Come look at what I’m working on.” Alex danced across the room, swinging into his brother and staring into the screen. “Woah! I wish I could do that, Dusk!” The boy looked at the creation in awe, brightness sparkling in his eyes. “You can. I’ll teach you.” Alex gasped excitedly, rushing to the kitchen to noisily cary a stool into his room, plopping it down beside him. Dusk saved his work, pulling up a new blank tab on his computer. He handed the tablet over, Alex grabbing it carefully. “You’re gonna want to hold the pen like a pencil, but if you lift your pinkie it’ll hurt less.” Alex giggled as he followed the instructions, a little messily at first. With a little chiding, the boy finally found the correct position. “Good job Alex! Now, just draw.” Dusk waited for Alex to be stumped or confused, but he went right to drawing. Dusk watched his brother doodle, giving him poitners and explaining the tablet along the way. Behind the closed door, they weren’t able to hear their parents’ screams from the other room.
