Doeheart decided to overcome her issues by embracing her new injury. She views the injury as her way of learning a cold lesson that she had to learn eventually; you can't trust everybody around you, no matter how nice they may seem. Because of this lesson learned scenario, Doeheart doesn't really view the blind eye as a nuisance or an inconvenience. Instead, Doeheart views this injury as a memoir, a memoir for the cat who she once was that was too naive to acknowledge the cruelty of the present world.
However, despite Doeheart being at peace with the wound, this isn't to say it doesn't cause occasional troubles for her when she's accomplishing tasks. Doeheart, after her wound had been treated, was unable to hunt for about 2 moons, because she had been dominant in aiming at prey by closing her right eye and using her left eye to lock in on prey. To overcome this, Doeheart has started cocking her head to the left so she can see the prey out of her right eye. Once she has made a vision in her mind of where the prey is, she turns her head forward and makes the kill.
Due to this injury, Doeheart has decided that sticking to hunting would be the best for her, which she is just fine with doing. This is because she has learned that cats will move erratically during battle, and there would be no way that a cat would stand still long enough for Doeheart to calculate where exactly they were standing. She doesn't plan on returning to fighting, and instead has overcome her issues by focusing all her attention to training on hunting, since she wants to continue providing for her clan without the risk of losing her life to another feline.
With her injury, the only thing that Doeheart can really do is hunt. Even then, learning that skill again took her moons Because of this, Doeheart has taken up the role of trainer in her clan. As a trainer, she is in charge of teaching the apprentices how to hunt, since the other two trainers are for more fighting oriented training to prepare apprentices for the ring. She was given this role not only because of her incapablity of fighting, however. Her blind eye has allowed for Doeheart to train with those who specifically have physical disabilities, such as blindness like her, deafness, or even limps.
Her reliance on one of her eyes and picking up on things quickly has allowed her to be an efficient mentor for those around her who have similar struggles to her. She teaches the disabled cats around her ways to overcome their personal troubles, whether it be ways to distract themselves, or ways to work around the issues themselves. While Doeheart mostly focuses on the cats with physical disabilities, she is also in charge of helping with the cats who have more mental issues, such as anxiety as a trainer. She teaches them ways to slowly get out of their habits, and is willing to try even if it takes many moons.
Her injury makes Doeheart an asset to her clan because she can relate to so many cats. With her blindness, she gained a new sense of reality, and it allowed her to aid the cats she once sympathized, not really anticipating herself to ever be in their place. Her ability to relate to the others like her allows for her to help the damaged cats who come to Rivuletclan seeking help, since no one like her was really present in Rivuletclan before to help these cats.
"Back off!" Doeheart yipped fearfully, leaping back from a large, battered she-cat before her. Her white pelt was sliced with various cuts, her green eyes glinting with mischief and a lust for blood. Doeheart stood in the midst of the battle, her own fights having moved out into the plain surrounding the Silentclan forest. Even from the distance away from the camp, she could still hear loud hisses and cries for help, some of them suddenly ceasing. The thought of her clan mates passing in the battle made Doeheart shiver as her blue eyes returned to the large she-cat before her, who laughed at Doeheart's pleas.
"Ah, even now a Silentclan cat is trying to bargain their way outta trouble! You damn coward!" The white she-cat cried as she swung for Doeheart's lithe body. Doeheart leaped backwards, narrowly dodging the strike. She watched as she flung herself forward, batting at the cream pointed apprentice aggressively. Doeheart continued to duck and leap over her batting paws, not wanting to strike the cat back. She knew that getting too close to this fiery opponent would result in certain death, so she continued to dodge the strikes in hopes of finding an opening to run away with.
"Hit me already!" Her opponent suddenly wailed, her jaws snapping forward. Doeheart found her leg within the she-cats maw after attempting to leap back to dodge it, a loud scream of agony rippling out from between her lips. Doeheart gazed forward at her blood lusting opponent angrily, taking the moment of vulnerability the cat proposed to leap forward, her fangs meeting the front of the white she-cats neck. She dug in and hung on tightly, a sharp pain suddenly striking her face, sanguine pouring to abstruct the vision of her left eye immediately. She couldn't see anything, but the pain was excruciating, causing her maw to break open and release the white she-cat.
Doeheart staggered back, trying to blink to recover her vision, but it failed. The pain had subsided, adrenaline taking over Doeheart immediately. She had kicked into survival mode, and her gaze was filled with determination. The cream she-cat kept telling herself she had to survive, no matter what she had to do. Her entire body tensed, and her muscles tightened as she gazed forward at the white blur. Her vision had began to grow weaker, a black ring growing around the vision in her right eye. She knew that if she were going to save herself, she had to act quick; she couldn't regret anything in the moment.
The white she-cat's head hung low, her chest heaving as she tried to breathe in air. A large gash had formed on her throat, and as her head hung low, Doeheart gazed forward, and realized she had one last opening. Forgetting all her beliefs, she ran forward, and with a loud scream, she leaped onto the white she-cat's back from the front. She then uncomfortably wrenched her body around 180 degrees, and her fangs met the back of the cat's neck . . .
Doeheart had just performed the killing bite.
Instantly, the white she-cat went limp, collapsing beneath her. Doeheart's entire body trembled as she looked down at her, taking several steps back before she collapsed to the ground behind the she-cat, struggling to maintain consciousness. She rested her chin against the ground and gazed up at the sky, looking around for aid as her body quivered. She felt as if she was going to die, and was just about to go unconscious when she saw her mother's familiar orange pelt over her, whispering words of reassurance as Doeheart slipped into unconsciousness.
