In the beginning, Aeris was given everything on a silver platter. They were wild and brash, content on skipping lessons and exploring the planet alone. Their parent was the one to oversee their land which meant more time for them to goof off and enjoy their freedom weather it be something as exciting as desert surfing with bandits or as simple as sunbathing in a meadow for days on end. Sure their parent tried to rein them in, teach them the importance of the "balance of the universe" but Aeris was young and ignorant.
Their hot-hotheadedness was bound to get them into fights and arguments not only with authority but with the people and creatures of the lands. Deep down they knew they weren't prepared for the weight of the world upon their shoulders but they figured that while there's still time they could be responsible for their own actions, no matter how idiotic it may seem.
Diplomacy was never their strong suit, though Aeris sat through many meeting and accompanied entourages on missions in order to learn, it was just too boring. They could never sit still in one spot for too long let alone participate in meetings that lasted weeks. They were of the earth and therefore should participate in other activities, not be cooped up indoors.
However, there were those nights Aeris looked to the stars and really thought about their life. Evert planet in their galaxy was connected to a life force, one being in which their livelihood and the energy of their home planet were so interconnected that they felt and suffered as the other did. One day when it is their parent's time to return to the earth millennia from now, it would be Aeris' turn to rise up and be that link. The responsibility of it all made them shudder, but there was time.
In reality, there was none. Their parent fell ill and the planet suffered for it. Crops, flora, fauna, everything seemed to be ill or dying. Monsoons ravaged the seas and windstorms made passage through the deserts and valleys next to impossible. Aeris tried their best to look after their parent, to soothe the aches, create salves for the illness, any trick in the book to save them, to give themself more time. But it was not meant to be; in the dead of night as Aeris prayed to the stars above the ring of their planet appeared around their neck, signalling their parent's passing and that they were now bound to the planet.
With the transference, the world began to heal slowly but surely, but it did nothing to soothe the sadness in their hearts. The world was cloudy and filled with rainstorms for weeks to come before Aeris begrudgingly accepted their fate.
They were young still, only a few thousand years old and buried themselves into studies no matter how much they longed to explore once more. They read up on cultures and etiquette, the many languages of the inhabitants of the planet and old notes left by the links before them. It was long going and arduous but Aeris had a slight grasp on things. Physical things that is, they still had a hard time coming to terms with just how much their emotions and well-being affected the planet and it would be many eras still before they relatively master their control.
There were two groups of creatures that Aris became quite fond of and in return, became curious themselves. Apparently, the Link never met in person with other species rather that's what the envoys were for. They simply came along to get a better feel for that part of the world. But if Aeris had anything to say about that is that times were definitely going to change. The Link shouldn't be far removed from their planet, they should be a part of it.
The Nagas were among the first Aeris met and the first to greet them with open arms. Their people were plentiful throughout the planet and were knowledgeable in the inner workings and state of the land.
Nilto is the ambassador of the lowland Naga's and
Katix of the highlands. Aeris was grateful that they took the time to teach them more about their culture as well as the surrounding areas, the concerns of the people and lessons that their parent should have been the one to teach.
the Underground, however, was something Aeris was never and probably will never be prepared for. Their parent only seemed to deal with surface matters but the appearances of multiple sinkholes led Aeris to discover the many civilizations that lived far beneath the surface. Since most of the beings there were not acclimated to sunlight or anything brighter than the natural bio-luminescence of their dwellings, Aeris was the one to venture down and establish relations.
Xal was a sight to behold. He stood nearly 35 feet tall with a tar-like ooze that coated his limbs. He was ancient, older than Aeris by at least 10,000 years and spoke with such grace they they could not help but to stay a while. There was much history to learn, too much that could not be condensed into a week but Aeris vows to make frequent trips back to learn more about their planet. If there was ever a being on this planet who would teach Aeris about patience, it would be him.
There are many who would take advantage of a Link who walks among the people and those who would inevitably try to bring them harm but with each meeting, Aeris feels confident that they have eons to make sure the planet stays healthy and thet it's inhabitants can thrive for generations to come.
Aeris is young, too young for the responsibility that they now hold but their life is an adventure and they will become a better more inclusive Link than their predecessors. They are bound to have many successes and failures but in each is a lesson and with each passing day they grow stronger.
