Krig, (plural Krigs), are a special man-made species that were once an experimental lab idea. A scientist experimenting with canine genes, horse genes, and chemicals formed a new substance that he decided to watch. After about three weeks, the substance had developed into four, small, canine-ish creature. Upon this discovery, the scientist decided to keep his creation secret. After about five years this task became impossible, as the creatures were now the size of large mules and getting antsy in their small lab. The scientist shared his discovery with the others in his division and started breeding them. Soon they multiplied. Eventually the secret of the creature got out, and people started rushing to adopt one because of their protective, gentle, nature. Their name, Krig, comes from an ancient rune the scientist also found when he was younger. Krig means "the gentle protector."
While in the lab, a scientist named Dr. Sheldon suggested that the species be trained and bred to be rideable. Her suggestion turned out to be a good one, as Krigs took well to riding. However, if you tried to bridle, halter, or saddle them the Krig would rear up and slash at you with surprisingly sharp claws and it's horns. They do this because they believe that it would slow them down and they didn't like the constricting feeling on their manes. They are also great at tracking. Riding is another reason people want to adopt.
Krigs are roughly the size of mules when fully grown and have the stamina of one too, able to run up to 50 MPH and travel long distances without faltering. With resistance to the cold, long whisker censors to avoid getting stuck in small places when they couldn't see, and horns on their checks to hold onto- this species is perfect for traveling. It's bulbs on the end of it's attenae will also glow bright red when danger is around, and will glow a lighter shade of their natural color when feeling intense emotion. Their manes are flexible and will grasp riders when they are falling of, though they are too short to be prehensile or grip anything below or above their back.
Krigs are smart, possibly smarter then humans, and give each other nicknames like, "So-and-so the Brave" and "X the Kind" and "Y the Human Whisperer." They are also extremely gentle to anyone they know and trust. They are fierce to any intruders except their own kind, and can sense negative or evil intentions, like dogs. They are especially gentle with children.
To humans, Krig communication consists of barks, squeaks, snorts, huffs, and chittering. Krigi, or baby Krigs are especially in love with annoying humans by chittering in an extremely high pitched voice.
Krigs can be any color or pattern ever imagined, but a good 1/5th of them are horse patterned.
Krigs can be Feral or Domestic, but domesticated Krigs will try and hoard anything fluffy, so be sure to keep your floofy stuffed animals away from your Krig!
