Backstory ;;
Ochadhi was delivered to the world on a day most peculiar to the rest. The sun bathed the land in warmth all day, never setting until the next night.
The Tribe of the Jagged Mountain celebrated this day enthusiastically. None of the hyenas of the Tribe lived together-save for the mates- but they came together during the celebration of the Day of the Sun. The celebration was festive, cheerful, and friendly- unlike many other tribes’ celebrations. There were feasts which were supplied by group hunting, praise for the Sun, and endless gossip. But never had a pup been born the day of their celebration.
The leader of the Mountain Tribe, Eren, declared the pup to be a gift from the Sun, an omen of bounty and wealthy blessing upon the Tribe. Eren believed that the pup had been given as a blessing for the praise and glory shown from the Mountain Tribe, unlike the rest of the Tribes. Ochadhi was greatly respected and looked after, celebrated each year on the Day of the Sun. A blessing he was, as the Mountain Tribe, and soon all other tribes, would behold a discovery by which the Tribes-folk would live longer and healthier and prosperous.
Growing up, Ochadhi was always praised by other Hyenas when he passed them, or given gifts like flowers or shiny stones or bits of food- which he always accepted humbly and nearly embarrassed. He didn’t understand why until later on in his life, when he was old enough to understand the Day of the Sun. He kept a collection of the stones and flowers he dried by tying them and hanging them upside down.
Ochadhi had found interest is preserving the flowers he was presented with, and often went out on his own to search for more. He would lay out in the prairie sun, enjoying the warmth and gazing about his location until he found more plants to study. He observed all sorts of plants that grew by the den he lived in with his family, besides the tall, golden grass.
One day, he found a lovely briar growing under a tree, whose leaves speckled the ground with sunlight. He was drawn to its lovely maroon petals, but he didn’t pay attention to the thorns until one dug it’s way into the pad of his paw and he reeled back.
He instantly felt the thorn with his tongue and pulled it out with his teeth, glancing over to a shiny web that strung from a leaf of the briar to the tree trunk. He didn’t see the spider, the owner of the web, anywhere and reached out to collect it, wrapping it over his paw so that the small puncture didn’t get infected.
After observing the briar more carefully, Ochadhi decided to scrape off the tiny thorns near the top of the stem with his dewclaw and snip off the sweet-smelling flower to bring home and dry.
Since the day his paw was stuck with a thorn, he began to wonder in the plants had healing properties. He tested the briar on his paw but chewing the petals and pasting it onto the puncture, reapplying the web bandage. In a day or two, it healed without sign of infection.
He experimented with many other plants, even digging up roots and snipping off leaves. He purposefully punctured thorns into his skin to test the affect of the herbs, whether they stopped infections or helped ease his pain. When he got sick, he’d try specific herbs to treat himself. Oddly enough, he was cured and he learned to treat sickness and wounds with herbs, berries, and seeds. He learned to mix herbs to treat them more effectively, and which herbs to stay away from.
During the next few years during the Day of the Sun, Ochadhi was more and more depended on by the Tribe with sick or injured hyenas seeking healing.
Of course, since Ochadhi was one of the first hyenas in all of the Tribes to discover healing herbs for the sick, he was crowded with patients. He was still perfecting his methods though, and worked with other hyenas from acquainted Tribes to figure out the best ways to treat the sick.
While this was developing, Ochadhi was still a character to be celebrated on the Day of the Sun each year. His golden pelt instantly stood out among crowds, and he would get flocked with hyenas presenting gifts to celebrate him as a blessing of the sun. Furthermore, his discovery of medical herbs and tactics would allow the Tribes to survive longer and live prosperous and healthy!
He never stopped experimenting and perfecting his methods of healing, but he took on a few pupils in his lifetime to teach his healing skills to, so they could continue his work and pass on their skills for generations to come. Thus, the Sun’s gift lived on.
Personality ;;
Ochadhi is a humble hyena who doesn’t think of himself as a gift from the Sun, instead as an equal to the rest of the Tribe. He accepts the gifts he is given with a bow of his head and gratitude, because he doesn’t want to turn down their kindness. He appreciates everything he is given and keeps the items as treasures, placing them in his collection.
Ochadhi is very passionate about working with herbs and different remedies to illness and injury. He takes pride in the work he has put into his occupation as a healer, never stopping his study. He continues to tidy up his methods, wanting to perfect them and make them more effective. Whether it’s by mixing herbs or cutting the amount he uses, he will try.
He isn’t afraid of speaking in front of a crowd, but he isn’t fond of hyenas crowding up around him to ask questions or ask to talk with him. He especially dislikes hyenas who try to take advantage of him to be popular, or just rude hyenas in general. He doesn’t like when hyenas treat others rudely or put others down.
When he sees this, he will jump into action to disband the argument and send both on their separate ways.
Ochadhi is calm and collected, not very enthusiastic but he is a curious character. He began testing different plants and decked into the study long-term. He was determined to develop the medical skills he has now.
