"Mr. Victor! you seem to know more about history than anyone else? why is that?" a young kit asked Victor one day.
"well little one, it's because I'm researching for a story I want to write" he responded, and sure that was a blatant lie but he was not telling this kit the real reason he was so knowledgeable about history.
"what's the story about!? can you tell me!?!?" the kit squealed as they danced around Victor, prompting him to sit down and when he did the kit sat right in front of him.
"Let me tell you the story of an ancient god, one who left his role of the god of ice to find his first love and he has been searching ever since."Victor sighed, looking down upon the world he watched over, winter had just faded away and the ice he had made on the land was slowly starting to melt, for many of the civilizations all over the planet this was a time to celebrate as the harsh winter was coming to an end and it would be easier for them to grow food. Victor glanced around, his pale eyes scanning the area for any of his fellow gods and upon not seeing any of them he jumped down from where he sat and landed in the woods, outside the town where his true love lived.
"Yuuri~!" he called as he walked to the centre of town where his love always seemed to be.
"Victor!" came a delighted reply and Victor was knocked to the ground in a hug by the other.
"You're back! oh, this winter was especially bad for this region, I hope you were okay on your own!" his love muttered into his ear, clearly worried for his safety.
"Oh Yurri, I'm fine! I am here after all, if I was not fine would I be here?" he asked with a smile. Yuuri sighed and pulled Victor to his feet.
"I guess not. It's just so lovely to see you again!" his love sighed and leaned on Victor's shoulder.
"It is lovely to see you too, my love."That was the last time Victor saw Yuuri, he had been killed in a raid on his town just before Victor was to visit him again. This is when his fellow gods finally found out about the whole thing."You were meeting with a mortal!? do you know how much heartbreak that will cause you!?" Zoi, the god of life, snapped at him as soon as he found out.
"I-" "and now he's dead Victor! dead!" he yelled, making Victor flinch back, sure he had gotten similar reactions from the other gods as well but there was a level of understanding in their eyes and tone since many of them had fallen in love at some point as well... But not Zoi, he had never fallen in love and if he did he sure as hell knew how to hide it.
"Victor?" the life god asked sternly.
"I have to go, I need to talk to Katharos" he sputtered as he turned and walked away. He didn't go to see Katharos, the god of creation, he went down into Yuuri's town that had been long destroyed and everyone had fled.
Victor stepped into Yuuri's house, he hadn't been buried and he had passed a little while ago but even in death, Victor knew he was beautiful. quiet sobs escaped the god as he collapsed in front of his dead love.
"I'm sorry, Yuuri, I'm so sorry" he sobbed, placing his paws on either side of his love's face, gently cupping his cheeks. Victor picked Yuuri up and balanced him on his back, taking him outside and burying him under the oldest tree in the centre of town, making a grave for him labelled:
"For you, my love, I would travel the world
find those who did you wrong and make them pay
for you, my love is unquestioned
for you, my love is eternal
here I will lay you to rest
in the place, you loved so much
may my good friend greet you in the heavens
and may life be your friend
and remember
I will always love you
your love, Victor"
Victor wondered the world, looking for those who had raided the town on that fateful day. Though after years of searching, his body began to grow weak, old, and frail, using the last of his energy to make his way back to his love's hometown. The town had been rebuilt yet the tree and Yuuri's grave still stood in place. He walked up to the grave in the centre of town and noticed the perfect blue flowers growing around the grave.
"forget-me-nots" he muttered, reading over the grave one last time.
"yes, the forget-me-nots were planted by the gods to honour this tragic love story" an older kalon said from beside him. Victor decided to play it dumb and ask:
"what was the love story about?" the old lady hummed and began to retell the story Victor knew all too well.
"A god had fallen in love with a mortal, a stunning young kalon who was the most handsome and kind in the whole town. The god, the one of ice, saw his beauty and descended from the heavens twice a year to see his love. They met start of fall and the end of winter, these days were their happiest. Though one day, there was a raid on the town. Bandits from across the sea, the destroyed the town, killing almost everyone, and Victor's love was killed. He descended from the heavens one last time to bury his love and go on his endless search for those who did his love wrong. Some say, Victor still wanders the world searching for those who killed his love." She finished and Victor nodded.
"tragic, terribly tragic" he said in a raspy voice.
"Indeed. Now, traveller, you look very old, what is your name? Why have you come so far to our little town?" she asked and Victor thought.
"My name is Victor, and I've come here to pay my love one last visit" he muttered, looking to the grave with sorrow and pain in his eyes.
"are you really?" she asked, stunned.
"yes, his name was Yuuri. He was the most amazing person I had ever been able to lay my eyes upon. He always tackled me to the ground when I came to visit, we always spent a week together. Those were the best weeks of my life" he sighed and suddenly coughed.
Are you alright, Victor!?" the old lady gasped as Victor crumbled to the ground in a coughing fit and people were gathering.
"Yuuri, My love, where have you been? I hope Zoi has treated you well~' were his last words before his body had finally given out.
"Mr. Victor! That's a terrible ending to a story!! and what do you mean he's been searching ever since!" the kit gasped, rising to their paws. Victor gestured for the kit to sit down, and they did.
"The story is not over." he smiled.
Every time Victor was reborn he lived a normal life, until he fell in love for the first time in the life he was currently in. At that point, he would remember every past life, his memory coming back in waves. He would remember his love and how it was his mission to find him again. Victor would be full of heartbreak and sorrow, vowing to never love anyone but his one true love. Sometimes he would fall in love young and spend his whole life looking and going without loving anyone else. Sometimes he would fall in love much later and spend his days wishing he could search the world for his love. Sometimes though, he wouldn't fall in love at all, he would go about his life not loving anyone, or truly loving someone, these lives were the most heartbreaking for Victor to remember. Though there was one life where he had met his love again, and as soon as they saw one another they knew it was them, they knew their mission had been completed.
Though that part of the story is not so happy. A week after Victor and Yuuri had found each other again, Yuuri had been killed in a car accident. Victor spent this life on his own, not loving anyone, this life is what breaks Victor the most when he remembers it. He remembers meeting his love and holding him in his arms only for him to be rushed to a hospital a week later. He remembers Yuuri dying in his arms, tears falling down both their cheeks as the monitor went blank, and that bone-chilling tone filled his ears as he cried, and cried, and cried, and cried.
"Again! Not happy!" the kit cried and Victor sighed.
"it is a work in progress my dear, and maybe the story will have a happy ending, we will just have to see" he said, smiling sadly.
"Waaaaaaiiiiit... Your name is Victor... Are you a reborn god, Mr. Victor?" the kit asked slyly.
"If answer the question will you keep a secret?" Victor asked and the kid nodded their head rapidly.
"yes! Yes!! now tell meeeee!" Victor laughed and smiled.
"Yes, I am Victor. Yes, I am looking for my love. Yes, I am using the book I'm writing to find him" he answered, watching the kit beam.
"Well, good luck Mr. Victor! I hope you find your love!!" the kit cheered as they bounced away, leaving Victor to smile.
