I don't like a dremel because I've caught not only fur but skin as well when she moved and it kicked back. Just the memory of her screaming in pain is enough I don't ever want to try again with that. Might use it if I ever have a short coated dog but I don't know. I just use clippers and a nail file. I've done a lot of work with Chloe on training her to accept having her nails clipped and we've made a lot of progress. I use a flashlight to show the quick and keep some styptic powder handy just in case. I used to use cornstarch but Chloe once kept licking at a nail and it kept bleeding to the point where I had to bandage the paw.

I think if I ever had another dog with dark nails I'd spring for the clippers that supposedly detect the quick but I've never tried them. I think with clippers too it's good to invest in a pair that is good and comfortable to hold.

Honestly I think the best method regardless is proper training so the dog is easy to work with.

So, this is my doggo Hershey. (Yes, ironic.)
He is a Yorkshire Terrier Chinese Crested mix.
He is a very sweet doggo when you get to know him.
All he does though is sleep all day.
But I still love him!!

Aw, so cute! Is he a puppy still? He might grow out of that if so! I have a 5 month old Yorkie and he use to nap all day but now I have to force him to nap when I see he's getting tired lol. If I let him play as much as he wanted he'd play until he literally dropped.

I’m sick so we were super lazy today. She’s finally picking up fetch though so we played a bit of fetch and then I introduced her to the flirt pole which she went totally nuts for. We are definitely going to give lure a shot once she’s big enough.

Also I use red handled millers forge clippers and a dremel. These clippers are super sharp so you can take off small slivers of nail at a time. Then once I get near the quick, I take more length off with the rough grit sander. Then smooth them out with the fine grit bit.

I start my pups young and teach them to calmly lay between my legs while I work, Kes took ages, but O’s breeder started her on nail trims so she’s been fairly easy.

do you really want to say with this that a fixed dog is abuse? :?:

and yes some get more heavy after it, it all depends on the dog, breed and health and such...an with some the owner can do sport each day feed the right things and they still look chubby and other look fit and do not much...

... yes some cropped ears are abuse, when it is for health and well done by a vet it can be alright... but there are way to short ones or cut wrong or those done by breeder or owner....just not alright!
...and also yes to some so called "fit dogs" who are way under there nomal weight for there breed, get only a handful food thrown in there kennel each day and are worked hard....all bones no real muscle or way to much muscle....also a no no....

That means you don’t know what a fit dog is, skinny dogs don’t have muscle, and that’s a fact. And most active, fit dogs are fed 5-7 cups of food a day to maintain their condition so what are you even talking about? 😂 To me, there’s no excuse for an obese dog, especially when the owner is able bodied.

And ear cropping isn’t abuse. Don’t say anything to anybody about ear cropping if you’ve had your dog’s organs removed lmao.

My dog has been overweight before due to his own health problems. My family and myself may have been able bodied but he was not neurologically. Not everything is an owners fault so it's best not to judge someone who is able bodied but has an overweight dog. Sometimes dogs may even be underweight - that isn't always even neglect.
