Khoisan Canine Adoptables
Updates
I haven't got time for these anymore, so have decided to sell the rights. Anyone that can offer me the highest wishlist pets (Or good qaulity art/ a good qaulity new character species (Depending on what it is)) Then you can get the rights and own the species from here on and do whatever with it. Adois! ;3
Introduction to the species
The Khoisan Canines were based off the Khoisan Bushmen that live on the Kalahari Desert. They thrived long ago, but many have turned to farming with stock and agriculture to survive in the more modern world, so sadly were losing many of the San people.
Appearence
They are hound-like canines and have very short fur with a slight amount of ‘fluff’ around leg, cheek and other areas. They are exceptionally strong and are a stocky build with wide, strong paws. Strong legs and a large, hound head. The ears are normally pointed but rare cases have folded ears. The tail is medium length with short hairs and is straight. They have sharpened claws and special paw pads that adjust to the heat. They have adapted eyesight to avoid blindness from the Kalahari heat and sun. The breed has strong, large lungs special for long and tireless running and powerful haunches.
Diet
Their main diet includes meat, which could be small lizards, fowl and buck etc found on the desert. The diet also includes certain fruits and vegetables found on the desert, e.g. the desert watermelon. If ill the Shaman, the healer, will treat with herbs etc which might need to be ingested.
Height
The average height for the San Canine is 1.5 metres, making them large dogs. But smaller and larger heights can be quite common.
The female is more slight and petite than the male. Her size is slightly smaller and her features are softer and ‘prettier’.
Colour
The colour is almost always a soft brown/ red brown. But in very rare cases an albino can be born.
Markings (Tribal Paint)
The markings may look like proper-born-with-them-markings bit in actual fact the ‘markings’ are tribal paint. It’s more prominent on the Chiefs, Dancers, Healers, the Second in Lines and the Shaman. They can appear anywhere on the body and can be of any colour.
Tribes
At the moment there is only one known tribe. The 'Far Land' tribe. This is will be the first tribe released and is the one you are adopting now. Many more tribes may come in the future depending on how much these guys are wanted and if I use all the ranks.
Ranks
There are a good few ranks in the tribe, some have many San Canines in it and some are only permitted to allow one or two San Canines in that rank. The ranks are as follows:
The Chief (The dog chief is the highest ranking in the tribe and his orders have to be followed. Only one allowed at a time.)
Mate to the Chief –Chiefess (Second highest, leader if highest ranking chief is gone. The bitch. Only one allowed at a time.)
Second in Line (The dog. Son to Chief and his mate. Beta. Once the Chief has died he will become the next leader. Only one allowed at a time.)
Mate to the Second in Line (The bitch. She is chosen once the dog second in line has reached maturity. Only one allowed at a time.)
Hunters (Often dogs but rare case could be a bitch/bitches. There are many hunters in the tribe to supply food.
The Community (The ordinary San Canines in the tribe and there are very many. There are dogs and bitches. In rare cases they have special abilities and mutations etc.)
Children – The Pups. (The youngsters in the tribe. Normally only the Chief and Chiefess may have pups but in rare cases the other San Canines may have pups. There is no limit to how many in the tribe but there is a natural limit to the pups in a litter. The tribe may limit pups had in rare cases, e.g. drought.)
Healers (They are not the Shaman and can only heal small wounds/ injuries, one at a time and with a limit. Often bitches but a rare case could be a dog. There are few healers in a tribe-two to three.)
Dancers (Are most often from the community but have been ‘promoted’ to a higher rank and provide the entertainment. The perform special dancers and most often perform them for the Shaman, to help her to achieve spiritual energy and do a ‘Trance Dance’. They are many in the tribe and they often wear feathers, beads, bead necklaces and animal skins.)
The Shaman ( Often a bitch but could be a dog. She/he is the head healer and is able to heal all wounds/ injuries and everyone sent to her, whether it is emotional pain or physical pain. The Shaman has the most spiritual energy and can achieve the Trance Dance easier and with less practice. A San Canine has to be born in a special way, and with the thought of being a Shaman in mind, to be a Khoisan Canine Shaman. Very often they have a Spiritual Animal and once in a trance they turn into this animal and feel as if they are flying or swimming. They are able to see things others can’t and when in the trance they can heal and predict/ see things. They can turn into special creatures in order to bring rain or other elements of weather. There is only one Shaman in a tribe and very often there is only one Shaman in an area and other tribes would visit him/ her for heals. In order to receive a heal from a Shaman you must exchange something with her, but you don’t always not what it is.)
There may also be the occasional outsider or enemy up for adoption that doesn’t belong in the tribe.
The Khoisan Canines in a tribe are a family and look after one another but the Seconds and Chiefs and Chiefess’ are treated more like royalty.
Age
They normally live to the age of 14 in dog years but in rare cases few live older and nature may take place and they could die younger.
Language
They speak in a language consisting of various barks, chortles, whistles and howls. Much like a normal dog but with various other sounds to their noises.

Moving along! (28 April 2011)
Wow! So much has happened to us, we've really improved and moved along the ranks, gaining some experience too! ;3
Series three is here, just a puppy. It's soo little because I had to save some space for the new contest, starting today! It shouldn't be too hard, and you can either win a custom or keep the San Canine you've guessed. Good luck everyone!
Kick start! (23 April 2011)
