how did this little fox come to you:
"Pepper! Anemone! This is it!" the black fox shouted at his two friends over the howling wind. It had been a doozy getting out here to report in on what could easily be a hurricane, what with how intense it all was. The trio of weather lovers had grabbed a boat and sailed off the edge of the known world. Never a good idea. Now January was worried they wouldn't get back home safely, but to be honest... he was more excited than scared.
"Brilliant," exclaimed the purple, feathered Pepper from his left. He was holding their water-proof recorder (a rare bit of technology indeed) and was preparing to turn it on. The aquatic Anemone was the only thing keeping their vessel afloat in the turbulent waters. Thank goodness Pepper had recruited her.
Pepper was continuing to speak. "And we're on! Go on, January!"
The fox gave his signature dazzling grin and began reporting. "This is officer January, here with the rest of your wonderful weather crew. We've got an intense hurricane here off the west coast of Silvarum, so watch out for heavy rains that side of the world. In fact-"
January could have easily done his usual five minute speech, but a wave crashed over the boat that even Anemone couldn't handle. They were swept into the water and the boat was overturned.
----
The next time January woke up, he was in an unfamiliar home by the shoreline. Blinking weary eyes, he slowly looked around. His two friends were in the same room, all of them cozied up in fluffy blankets.
"Oh! You're finally awake."
A quiet, antlered dog had entered the room, and now she was coming over and asking if he was okay and what was he supposed to say to that?
"What - what happened?" he asked, and she was quick to reply.
"Ah! You three got swept up on shore when the big storm hit, so I brought you all inside for the night. Breakfast is waiting whenever you're ready. Take your time!"
"But - our recorder?"
With a sly smile, she held it out in one paw. "Don't worry, I didn't forget this bit. All the footage is still there. Just be careful next time!"
January took it hesitantly, as if this was too good to be true. Then something dawned on him.
"Hold up, we were in the middle of an ocean in the middle of nowhere! How'd we wash up on shore? Wouldn't we have just drowned?" he protested.
The quiet dog simply laughed, shook her head, and said, "Oh. Sometimes things just happen." Then she turned, and left him to his thoughts.
(So I have a world where all my characters live, Silvarum, and I thought January fit right in. As for how he met me? I have my own character in the world - the brown dog at the end. She's known for breaking the fourth wall and rewriting history to save people, as she's essentially me, the one who made that world up in the first place. So she saved January and his friends by skipping over a chunk of time. Confusion ensues.)
