personality; kind of a loner, rusalka uses her gills to their utmost by rarely surfacing. although she does also have lungs, he much prefers the solitude of under the lake. she doesn't handle criticism or people being jokingly mean very well, bursting into tears at the slightest offense. underwater you can't tell if she's crying, which is why she loves it there.

"That's a really big ship," Shyshie tilted her head back, trying to take in the full scope of the white sails that stretched out like an albatross's wings.
"Aye, it has to be," Rusty grinned, his shoulders squared "She's the 'ead of the fleet."
"And you're really in charge of all of it?"
The fox's ears tilted back ever so slightly at the disbelief in his young friend's voice "That I am. Y'know, it's pretty important that I..." he trailed off as he realized Shyshie wasn't paying any attention to him and instead was peering up at the prow of the ship.
"Hey, be careful, your mum'd kill me if you fell in and drowned."
"Who's that?" She asked, pointing towards the figurehead adorning the prow.
"Oh, that's Amberjack."
"But who is she? And why is she on your ship?"
"Well," Rusty paused, biting at his lip "There's a lot of stories about her. Y'know how Ribothain is the guardian of kelp forests and creatures who fish for living and the Ocean Princess is guardian of souls lost at sea?"
Shyshie nodded.
"Well Amberjack is sorta like the guardian of captains and explorers. She's supposed to be a guide to lost ships and sailors.
"But why does she have a fish tail?"
Rusty shrugged "Not sure on that one, there's a bunch of stories about her. Uhh... there's one where she was a guiding star who had a fight with a wind that kept blowing ships off course. She won the fight but couldn't get back home, so instead she stayed in the ocean and that's why she's part fish. Another's that she was the first Queen of Navoire so she was honoured by becoming a part of the sea that her nation was built around."

"Those be quite the tales, Captain," a voice broke in from behind them and they turned at the same time to see a gray fox wearing green leaning against a crate.
"Well, those are just the ones I've heard, mate," Rusty flicked an ear "What do you think about the Lady of Ships?"
The vixen stood up and joined them "Well the tale I know best is the one where Amberjack was the first creature to build a great sail-ship, one capable of not only survivng the seas but mastering them. Then after she built it, she became the first captain of the first fleet."
"Doesn't explain the tail though," Shyshie pointed out.
"Well that's where some of the stories merge. She was honoured and became part of the sea, destined to guide the ships that she created for as long as they sailed the seas."
"That sounds sad actually, doesn't she get lonely?"
Golden eyes looked down thoughtfully at the young cat "I don't think so. She's an explorer remember? Now she can explore to her heart's content."
Shyshie smiled "You seem to know a lot about her."
The fox shrugged "She's one of my favorites."
"Yeah, I think she's one of my favorites too," Rusty said, turning to admire the figurehead once more "I bet she could tell us a thing or too, huh?...where'd she go?"
Shyshie turned to find the golden eyed fox gone "I don't know. She...disappeared."

Amberjack's eyes twinkled from the shadows beneath the docks as she watched the friends shrug their shoulders over her sudden exit.
One day.... one day they'd meet again, when the children were older and one day they'd have stories to rival her own.
She laughed softly and dove into the water, giving the surface a soft slap with a finned tail.
