765 wordsthe small kits surrounded the old tom. it had been many, many seasons since he had joined the clan, and he had gone through many difficult times. He had been underneath two leaders, dealt with a rogue king, a fox attack, an avalanche, but he feared not, for the seasons might have been harsh and demanding, but they were fruitful and satisfying.
"Tell us Taras! Tell us! Tell us about the avalanche again!!" The seven kits surrounded him and he rolled his eyes. They
always wanted to hear about the avalanche. It was the only story he told nowadays. He'd probably told it to them seven or eight times a week.
"I already told you about that yesterday! Now leave me alone!"
The smallest kit, the one he considered his favorite, came forward and placed a dainty paw on him, "Please Taras? We love that story!"
He let out a big sigh, and stood up, arching his back and stretching. "Alright. It was the middle of-"
"LEAF BARE!" Yowled out a large black kit.
Taras hissed, "You wanna tell it or do ya want me to?"
The black tom reeled back, "You tell it!"
He eyed the kit, "It was the middle of leaf-bare, and it had been the worst one we had ever seen. Salmonstar had already lost three lives that winter to when he fell into the water, and drowned trying to save Sootberry, who at the time was Sootpaw. She's his daughter, ya know? The river ended up freezing over completely that winter too.
Anyhow, Sootpaw and Screechpaw, the sisters, were arguing again, and Snowpaw, the blind sister, was right in the middle trying to stop the two. They were almost warriors, and there was a new tom in the clan, who was flirting with the both of them. They found out and was angry. Now you need to know, that Sootpaw had never been that angry in her entire life, she was a calm kit, a kind apprentice, but Screechpaw had done her wrong and she coulda killed her. They were loud!"
"How loud Taras?!"
"Louder than the sky-screams!"(thunder)
"Really!?" A grey kit came forward and jumped onto the black kits back, "We can be louder than that!"
Taras chuckled, "I'm sure you could! Now, all of a sudden, the ground began to shake and stir and I felt like I was gonna fall over. Everyone stopped what they were doing and ran for cover. We had though Starclan was angry and comin' down on us, so we took cover."
"You were scared?" Asked a small white kit.
"Oh yeah! If you thought Starclan was comin' down on you would you be scared?"
"No!" Yelled the black kit.
"Yeah you would!" Snapped his favorite kit, who then tackled the black kit and wrestled him around.
"Anyways!" He growled at the two wrestling on the ground, "Imma kick you seven out if ya don't quiet down!" The seven quieted up real quick and sat in front of him, patiently waiting.
"Now, where were we?"
A small calico molly piped up, "Starclan was gonna getcha!"
"Oh right!" He flicked his tail and threw his paw out like he was displaying the image before them, "Ok, so, Starclan was about to chew us up and swallow us, and we were runnin' for the warriors den! That was the closest den, and everybody was down in the clearing. So we got to the den and all of a sudden, it was white!
It was snow! The snow from the mountain was covering the entrance, destroying our clearing and everything! WE WERE GONNA DIE!" He stood up and all the kits gasped.
"Didja! Didja die! Taras! Did ya die!!??"
"No silly! I'm right here walkin', and your mother is still out their lookin' for ya. And when Sootberry finds ya'll, imma be in huge trouble-"
A cough sounded at the entrance of the elders cavern, and there stood Sootberry, "Alright kits, you've heard this a thousand times, and it's time for bed. You can finish up the story tomorrow! Taras needs his rest! Now, c'mon!" Shuffled the kits out, chourused by, 'Auntie he was almost done!', and her own kits sullenly following behind.
The small kit, the one he considered his favorite, ran back in, her tail straight in the air, jumped on him, gave him a big hug, and squeeked out a thank you.
"Run fast! Or ya mama's gonna swat ya!" He chuckled and curled back up into his nest,
That avalanche was something, he thought. He was glad he had survived it though, all legs and ears intact.
