I'd think that a Tracker would have a hard time tracking in space... it's a vacuum- completely silent. There aren't any smells... unless it's one of those with eyes or specialized light sensors, it might have a problem. >.>;; /dorkyness that can be ignored

I'm rather fond of the idea of marine animal Trackers... I'm afraid I'd have to go for a jellyfish or whale designed one. xD

Maybe also natural-theme Stealths? It'd certainly help them blend in.

I'm a huge marine biologist wannabe, so a Tracker like that would steal my heart. 8D /spam

(BTW, the ones with the glowing antennae are called angler fish.)
Wow, it's been a while. Apologies for my absence.

Guys, suggestions belong on the Tracker forum, the fanclub or my inbox. The reason behind this is because this thread moves so fast and I forget so easily..

Making a translucent jelly fish Tracker would mean I'd have to draw the entire skeletal structure and organs. And you all know I'm a lazy artist. :C
It's a fun idea though.

Space Trackers are.. impossible. Not to mention the concept would be pretty useless.
If you have an idea for a custom, don't ask whether it'd be okay or not. As long as it's appropriate and decent for CS, I'll make it.

Tracker Dog Application Series 10

Username: Nimaine

Tracker Dog you want: #30

Name you'll give it: Alert Redcode. It's Code: Red Alert backwards- which is supposed to imply a negative of the original. In other words, he's supposed to be able to defuse dangerous situations. Due to possible confusion, no one calls him "Alert," and I'll be following their lead.

Reason why you want it: Well, I love the wild/normal tracker dog lineart. So when this smoke-breathing, subtle-colored beauty came out, I naturally went for him. I like the backstory you've invested in these guys and would enjoy owning one of my own.

Will it be used in any kind of story? Yes, he'll be the main character in the story I've got under the "Introduction" question. I would love to use him in a Tracker roleplay thread, if one (or more!) ever became available.

Describe its personality:
Intelligent, thoughtful, patient, and yet very aware of what he considers his "rights." Proud and self-respecting, in other words. In the event of a disagreement between him and the ruling power, he will naturally bow to the ruling power. Until the ruling power's back is turned, that is. Then he will quietly do what he thinks is right. Fortunately his own moral compass is so good he almost always ends up doing the right thing. Or at least his good intentions are obvious. He does have a sense of humor, though it only appears when he's off-duty. He appreciates irony and dry humor, as well as sparks of wit.

He likes classical music, long walks on the beach, listening to lectures on subjects of which he has no understanding (i.e. he enjoys looking like a genius), and fires. Yes, fires, both controlled, as in a campfire or barbacue or even in a fireplace. He also secretly loves the more dangerous type of fire. The one that burns uncontrollably. It means he has a job do to, a purpose in life, a problem to solve, a situation to tackle. He does enjoy his work. Possibly too much.

Lest you be concerned, let me assure you Redcode does have his vices. He loves chocolate and he hates bath and water in general. Chocolate is not healthy for the animal his kind is based on, but even ordinary dogs can eat a few cheap chocolate substitutes, such as hershey's kisses and oreos, without suffering harm. Redcode sneaks these any chance he can get. Where he got this love of chocolate is not known, as feeding him such stuff is strictly forbidden by all of his owners. Perhaps a grateful young fire victim is to blame? It's just a rumor, but Redcode does like kids.

Write an introduction for your Tracker:

Redcode kept his head low, as he had been taught. His front legs were as far apart as he could get them so his tongue almost touched the ground. He looked like a giraffe taking a drink at a watering hole. Or he would have, if one could have seen him through all the smoke. His nose swept a semi-circle from one paw to the other, trying to pick up the scent of a human, or even a pet. People got very upset when their pets died in a fire. Strange, he thought, then corrected himself. Perhaps it wasn't so strange. Dessan would get very upset if anything happened to him, even though he wasn't a pet. More of a partner. A brilliant flash of green appeared in his mind. He sent his ears in a radar sweep, but only the clanging of the fire warning bell and the roaring crackle of the fire itself was audible at this time. He returned to the scent. A person, a living person, or at least a person recently alive had been here. And judging by the intensity of the scent, was still nearby. Redcode followed it for a few steps and it became fainter. He turned around and followed it in the other direction. In a corner of the room, curled under the desk, he got the full green spectrum of a living person, complete with purple for fear and yellow for discomfort. But the red-orange of pain was not present. Redcode felt triumphant. His nose touched thick, fire-retardant sprayed cloth. The person was bundled in it. He could hear breathing now, louder than it should be because of the mask the person was wearing. These were not standard issue office wear. But this was only a training session. A realistic one, granted, but still a training session.

Redcode barked twice, the radio on his collar would pick it up and alert his handler, Dessan, that his Tracker dog had found a victim of the fire. But he wasn't helpless without a human to guide him. Redcode pulled the man out of his shelter. The man tried to rise to his feet in the smoke, but Redcode rose on his haunches and rested the weight of his two front feet on the man's back until he went down into a crawl. Then Redcode took a chunk of cloth gently between his teeth- though the cloth was so thick he could have bit down hard and not hurt the man inside, and led the fire victim to safety. It was easy for Redcode to find the way out, as he'd been careful to memorize his steps on the way in. If the fire changed the building's structure, the scent of fresh air would also help him escape. He was rewarded by -oh sweet heavens!- a chocolate bar from Dessan. This circumstance troubled him, as did the second fire bell that sounded throughout his dream. Oh, he was dreaming! Just as he realized this, a shower of soapy water poured on him from above and he woke to the sound, not of a fire bell, but of an air raid siren.

Shaking off the remainder of his dream, he put his front paws on the chair where the fire chief was sleeping and barked in his ear. Dessan woke up with a start and a "Huh?", and put his hand automatically on Redcode's head. The Tracker stood by him alertly until his handler got his bearings and realized what was happening. Another bombing raid meant more firebombs, which meant more work for the two of them and the rest of the firemen. Much of his work before the war had been to simply wait in readiness before a fire, and Redcode much preferred the life of action he was leading now. But the humans he worked with were getting tired, he could tell. Neither of the other two firemen taking a nap at the firehouse had woken from his bark. Also they were getting fewer. His team had been reduced from nearly fifty to about fifteen, and only ten were on active duty at this time. Not all had died, some had simply fled the burning ruin of a city.

"Good boy," Dessan told him, petting Redcode's head. "I'll get the equipment ready. Wake the others if they don't hear the fire bell again." Redcode snorted in agreement and happiness, position himself between the two remaining firemen. His tail was wagging as he heard the plane engines overhead. This was what he liked doing best. Rescuing people from danger. The small, nagging worries he had about his own firemen vanished in the increasing excitement. An explosion sounded- one building over! The next explosion was less welcome. It came from the garage-wasn't that where Dessan had been? Redcode abandoned the two firemen, the exploding bombs had woken them up anyway, and raced to the garage where the firetrucks were. He hit the doorknob on the door in just the right way so it would open for him- he had plenty of practice.

Immediately a wave of heat hit him, and the sound of flame and of still-falling debris. He forgot himself for a moment and tried to sniff the air. But on the ground was a clear trail of Dessan's golden-laced green scent.

I need to finish mine too. *Rushes away*
Thanks for all the luck, too.
Nex, I have a question. Can trackers sense snowfall or weather patterns?
