TRACKER SERIES 10
Username: SnailsCanFly
Tracker you wish to adopt: Tracker #32, the rescue aerial
Intended name for this Tracker?: Luminescent, for the way her stripes glow, and the way her beautiful coat and wing colors resemble the northern lights. As a nickname, I would like to shorten Luminescent to Lumi. I love the feeling in my mouth as it rolls off my tongue, and both names seem to fit her to a tee.
Why Do You Want This Tracker?
Wow, Lumi is perfect. I would like to adopt her from the lab because she reminds me of a really special gift my friend gave me to help me through one of my tough times. Because of an overbite that refused to be corrected by braces, my parents agreed to make me have jaw surgery. So last summer I had my jaw cut into three pieces and slid forward to fix the problem that could have caused me bad headaches in the future. It was a success, but as a result my face was swollen about twice as large as usual and had turned a blueish green color because of broken veins. I also couldn't eat anything but liquids because my mouth was wired shut to hold the bones in place as they mended back together. I was pretty horrendous. I wouldn't let my mom take any pictures, and I avoided looking in any of the mirrors in the house. So when my best friend came over for a surprise get-well visit I was horrified. But she didn't flinch at all, instead she came over and gave me a hug where I was laying on the couch. And then she gave me a blizzard (that I couldn't eat) that had been stirred with m&ms to look just like the northern lights- which happens to be my favorite, most inspiring thing ever. The glowing colors dancing in the frozen air is the most uplifting phenomena that occurs in nature. Then we watched Brother Bear (I know, corny movie) replaying the scenes with the northern lights over and over. And by the end of it I had forgotten a lot of the pain and was in better spirits than I had been in since before the surgery. When I saw Luminescent, tracker number 32, I had a love moment. She looked like a Tracker-personification of the Aurora Borealis. Because of this, Lumi brought back all the feelings of being loved and supported. I know that whenever I look at Luminescent I will be able to get past anything that could possibly be bringing me down. Lumi couldn't be a better representation of a tracker helping people- in real life too, and I already love her for it.
Will This Tracker Be Used In A Story?
Lumi will defiantly be in a story. I plan for it to be set in the north where Lumi finds lost hikers in the snow, families stuck in unexpected blizzards and researchers who need supplies in emergencies etc.
Lumi's Personality:
Luminescent is a down-to-Earth practical Tracker that puts the victims she saves before herself. She enjoys her job, and can find something beautiful in any situation, no matter the surroundings. She loves the mountains, the clean snow, and the clean air that leaves her feeling newly awakened. On her off time with Snails at the Northern Research Center she loves listening to debates between scientists and learning about the world she lives in. The things she learns often helps her to be more reasourcful when on missions. In tough situations, she keeps a cool head and a warm heart, her lack of anziety and obvious affection serving to calm the victim or victims she is rescueing. Her cheerful and intelligent demenor makes her a favorite companion among the researchers at the Center. But of course, being the hard-working, loyal, and intelligent Tracker that she is, the best reward of all is sucessfully rescueing a lost hiker from the miles of snow-covered wilderness that she loves so well.
Other Things You Should Know:
*Lumi is extremely dedicated; when she sets a goal it will be met. To help her achieve those goals, she and Snails have developed many drills and games to help her train. Snail's favorite drill involves riding on Lumi's back to stregthen her wing muscles. Lumi's favorite drill involves following a complicated set of trails and tracks laid by Snails to find a suprise at the end.
*Snails and Lumi live at the (compleatly fictional) Northern Research Center located in the moutains that they both love so much. Although all the researchers love and appreciate Lumi and the help she gives them, her owner and favorite person is Snails.
*Lumi loves where she lives. she loves the furry evergreens, bright stars against the clear night sky, and the warm updrafts that carry her effortlessly when she is flying on warmer days. most of all she loves sitting next to Snails on the nights that the northern lights appear and dance through the sky in colors so much like her own.

An Introduction to Luminescent's Story:
Lumi looked out the research center's window at the heaps of snow drifts that were snuggly packed against the scatter of small buildings around main hall. Just as soon as Snails woke up she could begin snow training... Practicing anything from tracking techniques in the snow, to flying in the snow, to sled pulling. Without realizing it, Lumi's tail began to wave back and forth.
After a couple minutes a bleary-eyed Snails walked into the cozy break room where Lumi still stood watching the snow pile outside. "Morning, Luminescent." yawned Snails "Practice will start in ten. Just as soon as I get some breakfast" Lumi followed Snails into the staff kitchen, just to be certain there would be no slowness- she couldn't wait to get outside. But before they could get out the door Snails emergency pager buzzed. "Hey, Warden Snails? It's Jeff. We have a problem." Snails unclipped the walkie-talkie and replied back, "Details please officer." Lumi watched Snails closely. Her face showed no anxiety, and her voice was even, but the slightest tensing of her shoulders revealed the stress she felt to Luminescent. "Well, it appears that a hiker from a hiking class didn't come back when the rest of the class did... The instructor said she had wanted to stay a couple extra minutes at a frozen waterfall to take pictures." Snails paced back and forth thinking "There are at least five frozen waterfalls that I know of. Did the report tell you which one?" she asked. A minute of static crackled over the walkie-talkie, then, "The one on the red trail" " Thank you Officer, Lumi and I are on it" the walkie-talkie went silent. Snails turned to Luminescent. "Okay, shes been missing since last night, every minute matters now." Snails turned and grabbed a first aid kit off the table. "Here you go Lumi" she said, fastening it around her neck. "If the hiker is awake, check her for injuries, and give her the kit for any abrasions she might have. I'll be following on foot, make sure you howl frequently so I know where to go. If the patient is unconscious or has spinal injuries, no flying her back." Lumi nodded at the already well-memorized rules and ran outside and into the sky.
From the air Luminescent quickly made her way to the red trail where her search would begin, unconsciously wondering at the beauty of the snow-covered wilderness. When she touch down at the frozen waterfall she immediately began sorting through the unfamiliar scents surrounding the site. There, this scent was slightly fresher than the rest indicating that it had stayed at the site longer. Ignoring the rest of the trails she began following the path of the lost hiker into the woods.
Snails hopped on an emergency equipped snowmobile. She cranked the motor and began flying over the fresh snow towards the red trail where the hiker had been seen last. Through the cold wind whipping past her earmuffs she still managed to hear Lumi's first directional howl in the distance. Arriving at the site, Snails saw only the Trackers marks in the snow, all the rest having been covered by the snow that had fallen that night. Snails unclipped a first aid kit from the snowmobile and began to follow Lumi's path and howls. She found herself thinking, I hope we get there in time... All night is a long time to survive unprepared in weather like this. Lumi's paw prints continued into the dark and harsh woods.
Lumi followed the trail farther into the forest, her nose buried in the snow to catch every last particle of fragrance the hiker had left behind her. There. A heartbeat and the slightest heat signature underneath the snow of a crevasse. Lumi crept closer, carefully placing her feet down so as not to slip down the steep and rocky incline. When Lumi got to where the hiker was she pulled her wings back and then pulled them powerfully in front of her body, blowing waves of loose snow away from the women's body. Lumi tried to keep from cringing. Every bit of the women's exposed skin was a waxy blue color. Even worse, a brown-rust color had stained the hiker's pants. Even without smelling it, Lumi knew it was blood. There would be no quick rescue of a flight back to the center and warmth. Lumi settled in the snow next to the women and covered her with her wings. Her stripes began to glow, softly illuminating the rock ledges on either side of them and sending a signal up to Snails to find them. She laid her head down on the ground and waited for Snails to come with the first aid kit while her body heat worked on the unconscious hiker. to be continued...
