they are actually overpaying, 2017 store pets go for about a 2010 rare.

Agreed, but since the horse on the bottom is from '09 it's unfair to the horse. However, I personally think it seems like a decent trade when demand is factored in. I've never traded one of my recent store pets for less than an '09 rare, and horses don't have the best demand.
