Dim lights filtered into the small room where four kalons brewed a liquid. It seemed to be a potion. They all wore plague suits. It seemed like some sort of cult, oddly enough. The tallest of the four kalons,Lilith, ladeled a bit of the clear liquid out into a clear glass bottle. She handed it to the other three kalons, who'd returned to their normal clothing by now. One grey kalon- Maua, the assassin. One golden kalon- Melanie, the warrior. One blue kalon, Sierra, the healer. They took the potion from the plague doctor cautiously.
Maua grimaced at the smell. "I'm not drinking that. We were doing just fine. I'll wear my plague suit. That- is disgusting." She pushed it away from her face, into Melanie's paws. She then moved over to a rock and sat down, resting her head on her paw. She watched her companions as they tried the concoction.

Melanie wrinkled her nose, and stirred it around in the bottle like someone would a glass of wine. She plugged her nose, and gulped down a sip. Immediately, she felt a tingling sensation throughout her body. Sierra gulped down a bit, placing it on the rock ledge. Melanie gasped as she realized she was beginning to shrink. Her tail became long and pink. Her fur was still golden, but had none of her beautiful markings. Her eyes were black and beady. She was a rat. Melanie looked to her side, to see Sierra as a mouse. She was grey in color. Suddenly, instincts took over and they both lunged for the opened door, scrabbling on the rock. They twitched their noses as they went. They were fully rodent now.
Maua growled, getting up. Although she was extremely surprised, she didn't let it show through. She snatched up the rodents, who in turn bit her fingers viciously. She ignored the pain, grabbing a box of Lilith's and dropping them in there. She turned to Lilith next, her face red with anger. "What the heck did you do?" She asked, snatching the book away. "Rodent transformation potion? How could you?" Lilith shrugged. "I wanted to try it! Geez! We can just make the antidote." Maua growled. "If you do anything else to my friends I'll rip your head off. Got it?" Lilith nodded. The assassin flipped to the next page, the antidote. "One cave spider leg, One tablespoon crushed crystal, One hair of each rat you're turning back, Three cups water, Two cups spider venom." Lilith perked up at the ingredients. "Those are fun! Plus, I already have all of them, except for the cave spider. You can catch it. Just.. find a large spider out there." Maua nodded, heading out. Without her plague suit of course, as it seemed she didn't even need it. She boredly strolled through the caves. Where were these stupid spiders Lilith spoke of? She looked into a darker segment she'd never explored. Maua threw a torch into the area. It illuminated a huge spider. It was twice the size of Maua herself! She whimpered, seeing venom drip from its gnashing pincers. She backed up, worry clear on her face "Please- don't hurt me. I.." she snarled, quitting the act and drawing a poison tipped arrow and bow. She pulled back, and relased. It hit its mark, on the spider's biggest eye. It was already missing 5 eyes. Only two left to blind the awful creature. Maua smirked. However, that grin was wiped right off her face as the spider shrieked, charging towards her. Adrenaline pumped through Maua's veins. She notched two arrows. One made its mark. The other one missed completely, landing in the spider's hairy back section. Maua's only thoughts were of saving her teammates and killing this thing. Suddenly, it lunged. Maua could feel its spiny legs brushing against her back as she rolled away, leaping up. She shot its last eye. It was a powerful shot, blinding and very badly injuring the creature. It slumped to the ground. Maua ripped off a leg, to see it was already missing a few. Probably Lilith's work. She knew this thing was out here! How could she?
Maua dragged the heavy leg back to Lilith's cave. She'd already brewed the potion, only needing the leg. Maua plopped it in. The potion rippled, turning a rose pink color. They dished some out into a bowl. Maua picked up Melanie, forcing her mouth open and pouring some potion into it. She dropped the rat as it transformed. First it grew two more legs. Then its ears shaped to form Melanie's. It's tail was next, then the designs on her body. Finally she became full size. Maua growled at Lilith. "You're so lucky that worked." Melanie stumbled into a chair, muttering, "What happened?" Maua forcefed Sierra next. Her reaction was similar. "Alright girls. Let's go. We drank our protection potions. Besides, I found the crystal we needed. We're leaving." And so, they left the crazy plague doctor- hopefully for good.

lis is a knight without a permanent home! she's the most useful member of the party when if comes to fighting, but she can be both airheaded and hotheaded. she just has a big head all around. she's p cute tho

kind of a jerk |'D reuben is always just looking for some fun, regardless of what he has to do to get it. he's kind of shady actually.

Reuben cautiously takes the potion from Lilith. She’d said it’d provide extra strength... If so, it was valuable item not to be wasted. How long did it last...? Reuben peered at Lilith, who only grinned as she excitedly waited. What was it that she got out of helping the three strangers? With a gaze like ice, Reuben turned and shoved the potion into Onion’s hands. “Onion should drink it. He needs it more than you or I,” he spoke as he glanced at Lis.

Rocking back and forth on her feet, Lis raised her index finger. “I mean, he’s meant to stay in the back, he shouldn’t need it so long as he stays out of the front lines. Anyhow, there’s enough for everyone, right?” Lis looked for confirmation in Lilith, who gave a stern nod. The rose haired kalon snatched the bottle from Onion, only to have Reuben force it back into Onion’s hands. Confused, Onion only stood there with his head tilted as the bottle was given and taken and given to him again.

Reuben crossed his arms. “Well, then Onion’s the guinea pig.” His mismatched eyes rolled over the dark blue kalon. “Make sure it’s not deadly or anything.”

“Reuben!” Lisbeth’s soft pink eyes seemed to almost glow a crimson color in the lighting. “There’s no reason to pin this on Onion. We’re all equally important aspects to this team, you know.”

The atmosphere dimmed as the argumentative kalons were at each other’s throats. Their stances were dangerous, like either one would pounce at only a flinch of movement. The room was silent, save for the shifting of Lisbeth’s sword in its sheath as she took the handle. It was almost as if electricity really jumped from one forehead to another-

Ah... wait, that would be Onion. Lis’ head turned so fast she felt a muscle suddenly burn. “O-Onion!” Her voice near broke as she stared at Onion gulping the potion. Her horror was plastered across her face as Onion lowered the bottle from his lips. Reuben half lowered lids expressed his disinterest, and in the background, Lilith snickered.

“Um? Wh-What is it...? Is something wrong?” Onion’s eyes jumped from one kalon to another, taking into account each reaction (or lack thereof, in Reuben’s case).

“It’s... ah...” Lis took a step towards Onion and lifted her hand near his hair, just to receive a mild shock to her finger. She yanked it away. “Y-Your hair is standing on end, and... There are like, sparks, and-”

“You’re glowing. Like a lightbulb,” Reuben deadpanned.

Onion’s shoulders tensed. When he looked to Lilith, she held up a peace sign with her hand. He blinked. “This, er, doesn’t last forever, does it...?”

Lilith clapped her hands together. “Eheh, should wear off in due time! Can’t expect an experimental po- ooh, by the by, I take no responsibility if you do, like, permanently turn purple or... something.”

Reuben clicked his tongue. “Right, so, your goal was to test the potio-”
“My hair won’t do that, right?!” Lis, interrupting Reuben, pointed to Onion’s hair, where a mini storm looked to be brewing. “I can’t have my hair doing thaaat!” she whined. Reuben rolled his eyes.

“Oh, deary me, I’m afraid I don’t know! Side effects are usually different for anyone, so take your chances!” Lilith gestured towards the potion, still held in Onion’s hand. “C’mon, go for it.”

Lis nervously chewed on her lower lip. “Yeah, I guess...” Onion set the bottle into Lisbeth’s hand. She swished the thing around, trying to gain the stomach to drink such a foul smelling potion. “I think you gotta work on this recipe some... This smell is obnoxious, like age old fish and germs.” Out of the corner of her eye, Lis saw Lilith give a considering tilt of her head. With that, Lis chugged the liquid, and only stopped when Reuben near slapped it out of her hand.

“Oh, yeah, ‘There’s enough for everyone,’ you say before continuing to nearly drink what’s left of the potion!” Reuben lifted the bottle to his face, inspecting the remains of the potion. Onion and Lis both needed to learn self restraint; With so little left, Reuben wondered if it’d affect him as much.

There was no reply to Reuben, because instead, Lis was busy choking. “That tasted like a nightmare! Onion!” With watering eyes, Lis looked to Onion. “How did you not react this this?!”

Onion’s gaze fell to the floor, and his voice lowered, like he might be embarrassed. “I thought it tasted sort of good, actually...” A cherry color spread over Onion’s cheeks as everyone went silent and stared at Onion, only to then disregard what he’d said.

Though, he was pretty sure he heard Lis mutter a subtle, ”How...?” As she passed the potion off to Reuben, she promptly yelped, and before anyone could why, she yelled, “Did the potion do anything weird to me?! Orange hair or- or something?!” The kalon pulled a lock of her hair in front of her face, and sighed a breath of relief when it looked same as ever.

The three other people in the room examined Lis, looking for something different about her, but when they came up with nothing, Reuben shrugged. “You look boring as ever,” he commented, to be then met with a scowl. When she spun away, Reuben looked surprised for once- and not because she hadn’t yelled at him. “Wait, look back to me...?” He stepped towards her. She almost stepped away. Reaching his hand out, he brushed the hair out of her left eye, where her bangs were longer and often left her half blind. He pretended not to notice the pink tint that came over her face.

“Wh... What is it?” Lis’ shoulders relaxed as Reuben’s hand was placed back at his side.
“Your eye is gold. It wasn’t always that color, was it? I don’t really remember, since I don’t spend my time looking at boring things.”
Lis puffed her cheeks. “I-I am not boring!” Fixing her hair, she placed it back over her eye. “Does it look okay, at least?”
Reuben briefly looked at Onion, then Lilith, then back at Lis. “I guess.”

Lis twiddled her fingers. As Reuben silently moved to drink the remaining bit of the potion, and all attention was turned away from Lis, she just barely moved her bangs out of the way of her now golden eye.

Reuben set the empty bottle on a table and wiped a drip of the liquid from his mouth. “Lis was right, that stuff tastes rancid. So... come on, what side effect did I get?” Saying this, he waited for a moment, before he crashed to the ground and clutched his chest. Both Onion and Lis rushed over, but he waved them away. “I-” he choked between words, “I’m fine. God, I feel I’m dying though.” The room was still, excluding Reuben, who gagged for a moment before pushing himself to his feet. “This adventure should be renamed ‘Reuben Constantly Gets Poisoned but Somehow No One Else Does’.”

Covering her mouth, Lis let out a small laugh. “You’re okay...? At least, you look the same...”
Reuben looked over his body. “Mm. I was sort of hoping I’d get something cool.” This time, it wasn’t only Lis who laughed, but Onion too (and in the background, was that a hint of amusement from Lilith?). “Well, I do feel sort of... Stronger, I guess. Wasn’t that the point of the potion?”

“Huh? I don’t feel that much different.” Lis flexed her arm. “Nope, nothing. What about you, Onion?”

Onion flinched, being addressed now when he’d been standing on the sidelines for some minutes now. “Oh, uh, no, not stronger, but... Sort of jumpy?” Looking at him, it was clear he had more energy than usual. He wouldn’t stop shifting his weight from one side to the other, and his hands played with the sleeves of his shirt.

“You do have electricity jumping off your head. Wait, so am I the only one who didn’t get a physical boost?!” Lis shot a confused gaze at Lilith.

“Might kick in later,” Lilith replied. “Listen, not that I don’t love you guys and all, but now that I know the results of the potion, I should really work on perfecting it~!”

Reuben shook his head. “So you’re kicking us out, is what you’re saying.”

“A bit, yes! But if you happen to come back down this way, tell me if the potion had any effects later on, thanks!” Reuben, Lis, and Onion reluctantly agreed to report back to Lilith if they could. They were thankful for her help, but they were hesitant to ever accept help from her a second time.

Before they left, Onion tried to ask for the recipe to the potion. Lis and Reuben dragged him away before he got the chance, yelling about how the potion was an incomplete project with obvious issues that needed worked out. Besides, they all sort of doubted Lilith would hand over the recipe that easily.

Hera quickly drank about half of the potion and immediately grabbed some leftover fish that Azrael had made over the fire and ate it to get the flavor out of her mouth. She wrinkled her nose up in disgust but nodded to Lilith and thanked her for all of her help. Azrael hesitated as he looked at the potion. “Do I hear a chicken in here?” Hera said playfully as she glanced over at the angel. Azrael glared at her before downing it in one gulp. The pair walked out and towards the general direction that Lilith had pointed them to as they waited for the “protection spell” to work on the pair. They stayed quiet as they anxiously waited as they tread on in the cave. Finally, Azrael started to feel a little bit funky. “Hey Hera, do you feel weird at all?” He asked as he glanced at her. “No.. Why?” She replied and looked at Azrael a bit concerned. “Are you feeling alright? We can rest for awhile.” Hera looked at him and Azrael shook his head. “Stop mothering me.” He chuckled a bit and blinked his eyes. The crystals got a bit blurry but they kept walking. All the while Hera was growing concerned. Suddenly Azrael started to wobble. Azrael struggled to keep walking and before he knew it, he blacked out.

A few hours later Azrael woke up with Hera beside him trying to patch up a few cuts. “Hey what happened?” She asked softly. He shook his head. “The path was made clear..” he said quietly and instantly got up and led the way to the crystal.

Noah looked at the potion in fear that it would back fire and he would end up hurt of other wise scared for life. Though how bad can drinking this little potion be? They had been through a lot and this couldn't be the worst thing he has done this entire trip. With a sigh he closed his eyes and shot back the position. It was gross and bitter tasting.

After a moment he felt bubbly in side and looked around. Everything seem fine and he felt a little fuzzy but that was about it. He looked down at himself and noticed that he let off a faint glow that seem to be a greenish color. This was weird but looking over at Lillith it seem to be a normal thing and with that shrugged. The effects would wear off in a couple of hours so there was no time to waist. With that his brother and aunt has a little bit of the potion too and where off to find the final crystal that would complete the set and help them banish the darkness. On the down side they had no idea what this crystal looked like and Lillith insured them they would know it when they see it.

Mike peered at the strange liquid. A foul stench was rising from it, and his stomach was curdling just at the thought of it touching his lips. He did not want to drink that, no sir. But he had too. Plugging his nose, he gulped down the monstrosity. Gagging and reeling backwards at the taste, Mike dropped the vial it had been in. He grabbed his throat, but it did little to help. "Gyaaahhhggg...! It's awful!"

Adelaide and Gale blinked at him, panic flickering in their eyes. "A-are you okay?" Gale stuttered.

Mike nodded, rubbing his eyes. "Y-yeah... I feel... a lot stronger, actually... like... I could punch out a wall or something."

"The potion has different effects for everyone. It will manifest itself in different ways for each of you." Yeb nodded as if this was all according to plan.

Adelaide gulped. "Alright... guess it's my turn..." Plugging her nose, she swallowed it down as quickly as she could. Sticking her tongue out, Adelaide hissed and squeezed her eyes shut. "Yarg, you're right! That's nasty." When she blinked her gaze back open, she discovered a thin glowing layer surrounding her. Reaching her paw through, Adelaide grinned. "Sweet, a shield!" She could pass her paws and sword through effortlessly, and when she walked, the shield stayed centered over her body.

However, when Mike tried to touch it, he was thrown to the ground. He pulled himself back up, rubbing his head. "Dang, that's pretty powerful..."

Gale's eyes widened. "That's friggin awesome! Lemme try!" She threw the stick she had been using as a crutch to the ground, hobbling over to Yeb and snatching her portion of the potion. Gale drank the potion, her fur sticking up as she did so. She blinked, sniffing once, then proceeded to fall to the ground, unconscious. The red kalon began to convulse sporadically, foam bubbling at her mouth.

Adelaide screamed, while Mike shot a glare at Yeb. "What's happening? What did you do!?"

Yeb was totally calm as she observed the shaking form of Gale. "Oh, dear," her voice was flat and emotionless. "It appears that she's allergic." She lifted her eyes to look at the panicked Mike and Adelaide, then shrugged her shoulders. "There's nothing we can do except wait for her body to expel the potion."

"Are you kidding me? She might be dying, and you're telling us we can't do anything?" Adelaide growled, her eyes narrowing. "I knew we shouldn't have trusted you!"

By the ragged tone her voice was taking, Mike had a feeling that this was bringing up something Adelaide didn't want to remember. He crouched down next to Gale, pressing his fingers to her neck. Thankfully, she was still alive. The convulsing had stopped now, and she had slipped into sleep. Mike sighed. Gale had been through so much on this quest. It wasn't fair for her.

He leaped back from Gale. Hard bulbs had begun to grow over her body, giving her a terrifying appearance. Adelaide shrieked. Yeb, of course, seemed quite curious with how Gale was reacting to the potion. The bulbs began to meld together and elongate, sectioning themselves off. They resembled a lobster shell in a way. The good news was that it didn't seem to be paining her anymore.

Moment later, Gale blearily opened her eyes. She groaned, rubbing her head. When she saw the shellfish-like encasing on her arm, she screamed and scrambled away. "What the heck? What the HECK!!? WHAT THE HECK!???!"

"Calm down, Gale, we'll get you fixed!" Adelaide shushed the screeching female.

Yeb shook her head, mouthing to Mike, "All you can do is wait for it to go away." Mike grimaced. This would not be fun.

"I'm hideous!" Gale wailed, curling up into a ball.

Adelaide patted her shoulder, commenting wryly. "At least you're skin is impenetrable now."

lilith handed ginko the other cup, "this one is for you." she said with a smile, she had almost given him the wrong side of the potion which is why she had yelled at him as he tried to take a drink of it. odo looked uneasy but nodded and took the cup in both of his hands, he raised it to his face, it didn't smell like anything. he raised it to his lips and chugged it down thinking it was going to taste disgusting but it tasted like chai tea. he licked his lips when he was finished and gave the cup back to lilith, he felt warmth flowing through out his body and all around his vision he saw shooting stars. he stood up quickly feeling energy flow through out his body. he felt strong and radiant, he stuck out his chest and breathed in. "thank you for that lilith." he said and gathered his things quickly before taking a single step. but as soon as his foot landed down on the floor, his whole body went heavy as led, he crumpled roughly to the floor with a grunt and was out like a light.

[ when odo awakes he will be in the middle of the caverns with lilith no where in sight but crystal clearly in his minds eye, its at the end of the caverns embedded in a chest made of crystal. ]
