it's summer. it's summer and the heat is relentless. harsh rays of sunlight beating down from above and reflecting off of the colorless desert sand to form a furnace. this is the type of summer that kills you slowly. sucking the moisture from your lungs even as your flesh bakes away in the heat. but this is the type of hell she enjoys most of all.

this is the time of year in which her magic is strongest. she's not like her sisters, delicate witches of the moon who work best in the biting winter under the pale moonlight. no, she's made of something stronger than them. something harsher and rougher and more ancient. her magic was formed in the heat of molten gold and liquid stars. and there is nothing more she loves than her magic.

that is the reason she's standing where she is now. on a low flat rock in the middle of a desert otherwise full of sand. the only forms of life for miles around are the few lizards and cacti who can survive months without water and shade. it had taken her three weeks to make the journey, even with the help of her sister's magic. but it is a trip that is worth it. here, her potions will be stronger than anything she has brewed in centuries.

before her a giant cauldron of brass rests atop a small fire of electric blue flames. this is the cauldron she formed before she fell out of the very feathers her wings were decorated with. it's magic is ancient and powerful and able to be wielded only by herself. there is no denying it's her favorite. moving with slow and steady motions, she fills the cauldron with oil from a silver flask enchanted to never run dry. she chants a spell beneath her breath and thinly slices a mandrake root as she waits for the oil to smoke.

when she slides the root into the oil, it shimmers and sheens and shifts into a bright and vivid red. from there she moves on instinct with her eyes closed. throwing in dashes of spices and splashes of toxins as the magic commands her to. and it's all dark magic, twisted and disfigured and burnt from the sun and by all rights, the potion shouldn't work. it should be a shriveled husk of a shell at the bottom of her cauldron. but it does work, her magic stronger than all reason, and her potion morphs into a mess of liquid gold thinner than air and hotter than the very sun that looms high in the sky above.

for several moments, she simply stares at her potion, a proud smile upon her face. no matter how often she brews this potion, it will always be her favorite. not for it's color or difficulty, but rather for the one it can summon. carefully, so very carefully, she ladles out the potion, storing it into small vials stopped with a piece of cork. most of the vials she places in a box carved from the wood of a yew tree and gilded with a thin layer of gold. this is only one of several potions she plans to make over the summer, but it is quite possible the most important to her mind.

Kishiko's summer activities.
~Going to a fireworks festival with Shimizu, her human best friend~
Kishiko started to pace around her cave, waiting for her human best friend Shimizu. He was late today, usually he was right on time every time he visited his favorite goddess or a few minutes early. Kishiko finally sat down, watching the bioluminescent fish Shimizu had given her one summer day. She sighed, wondering if anything had happened to the human or if he finally forgot about her. Humans tend to forget about the supernatural quickly after they see them, well if they see them in the first place. Most humans can't, other than small children. That's what made Shimizu special, he could see Kishiko. The goddess sighed again, closing her eyes before jumping up as she heard someone race towards her cave which she called home. It was Shimizu, heavily breathing. "I'm so so sorry Kishiko!" He said, bowing to the goddess in front of him. "My mom wanted me to wear this, thinking I was going on a date to the fireworks festival..." Shimizu muttered, doing a three-sixty to show off his yukata to her. Kishiko happily wagged her big tail, racing over and hugging the human. "Your late..." She muttered. Shimizu pet the big viscet, and hugged her back. "I know, I'm sorry...but Do I look...okay?" Kishiko giggled and nodded. "You look lovely." she answered. Shimizu smiled, his face turning a bit red. "T-Thank you...I Didn't think I looked that good." he replied. "....So Are you ready to go to the festival?" he asked, looking at the goddess curiously. Kishiko nodded. "I can't wait to go! I've been waiting ever since you dragged me out of here and made me go last year." Shimizu grinned. "Great! Let's go then." he replied, gently holding onto the big viscets paw. Kishiko smiled warmly at the human. They both walked to where the fireworks festival was being held. Kishiko gasped and kept dragging Shimizu to the different food stalls, wanting one of everything. Shimizu being the nice person he was, brought anything the goddess wanted. Then they finally got to goldfish scooping. Kishiko could spend hours there, it was her favorite activity at the festival. "Okay, Kishiko. Which ones do you want for your goldfish pool?" Shimizu asked the viscet, smiling warmly at her. Kishiko grinned, starting to point out which ones she wanted. "Hmmm, this one, this one....ohh, I gotta have this one....oohohoh, I really want that one..." She started to go off and Shimizu paid, starting to catch the ones that his best friend wanted. After spending too long of a time at goldfish scooping, Shimizu finally caught all the goldfish the goddess wanted. "I finally caught them all!" he celebrated, grinning. Kishiko was delighted, wanting to squeeze her human friend tightly, but he was hold the goldfish bags. "Thank you so much Shimizu!" she thanked him. Shimizu grinned. "Your welcome my goddess!" he replied, before looking up at the sky and gasping. "We're gonna miss the fireworks!" he whined. Kishiko blinked and looked up, gasping. "I'll run the goldfish back home!" she offered. "Kishiko, there's no time for that! We need to get to our spot right now!" Shimizu told the goddess, starting to race towards her cave. The goddess viscet right behind him. Shimizu ended up putting the bags full of goldfish down in front of the cave and starting to climb up the cliff face where Kishiko was waiting on top. "I told you I could of been the one to drop off the fish!" she shouted to him, the first fireworks starting to go off as Shimizu got to the top. He gently pushed Kishiko when he got up there, snorting at her. She growled playfully at the human before gently pawing at his hand. Shimizu sighed, gently hold the viscets paw. They quieted down and watched the fireworks together for the rest of the night.

siren of the sea wrote:the sky was dark, the ocean water ever darker. the sounds of a silent sea and the creaking of an old skip filled the air. a rough, warm wind caused waves to form. the smelled of salt was carried on the wind and over the land. the wind began to pick up with the changing tides, and a crack of thunder could be heard in the distance. the sky darkened more as thunder rolled through the clouds. the summer heat rolled through the air, sun hiding behind dark storm clouds. a ship was moving quickly through the water, trying to beat the storm before it began. but the storm was not the danger. it was what lay beneath the oceans surface that posed a true threat.

beneath the earths surface, the water was calm. fish swam in groups and whales called to each other from their pods. the sounds of whale calls, dolphin clicks and sea otter chirps filled the silence of the sea. deep down in the water, where nothing could be seen, a rumbling could be heard. it was a familiar sound to the ocean animals, and they swam off in fear, knowing very well what was coming from down below. the rumbling grew louder as the storm above raged. those above the surface had no idea of the monster below, the monster that would ultimately end their lives.

the rumbling grew louder throughout the night. waves grew in height and lightning constantly tore through the air. it seemed as if there were no fish within miles, at least there were none within sight. the fish had fled, knowing very well the monster that was coming from below. the monster was a familiar face, one that every creature within the ocean knew. it was a creature that had been written about for thousands of years, a creature of pure evil. a creature written in fairytales who could use their beautiful voice to manipulate anyone who they chose. but once hearing the sound if this creature, it would be the end of your live. the beautiful and deadly voice of a siren.

she arose from the deep, moving slowly through the water as she headed towards the surface. her crown rested atop her head, but her trident remained below in her home. her crown broke the surface, followed by her head but only her eyes stayed above the water. she watched the ship that creaked along, being tossed around by the waves as if it were a childs toy in a bathtub. she watched the men and women aboard, chuckling to herself at the unsuspecting pirates. they didnt know what was coming for them. they had all heard the stories of the beast below, but no one ever thought they would come face to face with the siren. the folklure of fairytales had been passed down and spread for thousands of years, but many did not believe. many thought of it as little more than a joke. those would be the ones that would lose their lives to the beast.

she swam closer to the boat, eyes focused on a young female pirate as she approached. she rose a bit higher, muzzle breaking the surface of the water as she began to sing. her voice was gentle, and just loud enough to be heard by the pirate above her. the sound of her voice changed everytime she sang, depending on the viscet she was singing too. her voice was a calling to the deepest hearts desire, and it caused one to see what they desired in her. to some she sang of their true love, for others she sang of money. she sang about home for some, and one she had sang about death for him. so as she continued to sing, the viscet above saw her love in the siren. she stepped overboard, and landed just beside the siren.

she smiled at the pirate, continuing to sing as she began to sink in the water. she didnt drag them to their death, instead letting them follow her to their certain death. she continued to sink as she sang, watching the stream of bubbles that poured from the pirates mouth as she tried to follow her. it was only a few minutes before the pirate was lifeless, and the siren brought her down to her home in the bottom of the sea. the pirate would have a grave there, along with the hundreds of others she had hidden beneath the oceans surface. in the depths of the ocean, was her home. it was a large cave, filled with coral and seaweed. her bed was made from seaweed, and she loved the plush feeling against her fur. at the entrance of the cave, were the bodies and skeletons of the pirates she had pulled down. they stayed at the entrance of her cave to scare away any fish that tried to intrude.

the siren did this often, luring unsuspecting victims to their death. it was her favorite thing to do, alongside swimming with the sharks when they were around. she only did this during the summertime, when the water was warm enough for her as she rose to the surface. she could sometimes start at the end of may, if the water was warm enough. she preferred the warm waters of June and late July. that was the best time. when she would sing for pirates during the colder months, they would sometimes snap out of her trance when they hit the cold water. albeit she still drowned them, she didnt like to see the panic on the viscets faces when they realized the trouble they were in. she also didnt enjoy letting others see her face.

she was one of pure mystery, as no one who had ever seen her had lived to tell the tale. but of course there were stories, tales of the mysterious creature from beneath the deep. there was one man who had seen her, but not by his choice, hers. Sir William. She had lured him over the edge of the boat many times, but she never dragged him below the surface. he was the only viscet alive to have ever seen her face and survive it, and no one knew why. she would lure him over the edge of his boat, but would swim away without drowning him. maybe she was expressing feelings towards a land viscet. unlikely but maybe. just maybe.

she followed his boat often, trailing behind him as he traveled from port to port. she didnt bother him when he was busy, instead waiting for the times when he was alone for her to begin her siren song. she would sing to him until he stepped overboard, but her song would quiet once she hit the water. sometimes she would linger, allowing him to see her face before she disappeared back below the oceans surface, but that was not often. she preferred to let him drop into the water right as she dropped back below the surface. she would swim around him, waiting to make sure he got safely back on his boat before she would truly disappear back into the depths of the water.

now this siren was not a mermaid, nor was she just a siren. she was a water viscet, yes, but she is more than just that. she had been created in the deep depths of the ocean, and she spent her life there. she lived in the part of the ocean that no light would ever reach, and as she grew older, she eventually drifted up to the surface and began to learn around the land viscets. she spent thousands of years in the ocean, learning everything about water and land and air. she became queen, taking control of the ocean and its inhabitants. but once gaining control of the ocean, she began to long for more. thats what drew her to her newest hobby, luring in unsuspecting land viscets and letting them drown themselves. she now controlled the ocean and news of her spread fast across the land. her name muttered in hushed whispers and in back alley ways.

she was the queen of the sea, and only the sea and the deaths of others could calm her restless soul. queen triton. she was a being of true evil, yet her heart felt for a land viscet. she hid behind a wall of skeletons to be truly alone. queen triton. she was a creature if true horror yet had the voice of a beautiful opera singer. she was truly alone yet bodies filled her cave. queen triton. her favorite warm weather activity was luring pirates to their death. even the ocean sharks were afraid of the siren. queen triton. she had been alive for thousands of years, and used every year to kill more and more pirates. queen triton. she was the queen of the sea, a true beast. she was the queen triton

Bela clambered over the seat, chuckling at Nico's horrible jokes. Hopping into the cockpit, she flipped switches and dials, preparing for another flight. Checking the fuel container, she noted with great relief that it was almost full, enough to get them to Pluto and back. She smiled at the flight chart. As Nico and Bela both had different planets they loved to go to, they agreed to switch off. Having gone, by Nico's choice, to Saturn last month, it was Bella's turn to chose a planet. And of course she chose Pluto. Nico and Bela often got into arguments about whether or not it was actually a planet, but secretly Bela didn't really care who won the argument.
After all, she would be going to Pluto anyways.
Settling into the seat, she prepared to buckle her seat belt when she glanced at the calendar that was on the wall behind her. With great surprise, she realized that down on Earth, other Viscets must be enjoying... Summer! It was June already, the days seeming to fly by while studying other galactic homes. Bela chuckled, wondering what they should do for summertime in space. Her eyes lit up as she remembered her favorite past-time.

''We're here!'' Came the excited voice of Murasakino as she looked towards Kasshoku, ''We're going to do so much good here for the next month - I know you've never done anything like this before Kass, but trust me the kids'll love you,'' Kass took a deep breath, ''I don't know, I've never worked at a place for orphaned visclings before,'' Mura smiled, ''don't call it work, its better than work - when you're done, you feel like you've truly accomplished something special,'' She looked down at the dusty red dirt beneath her feet, ''But enough of my rumbling on, lets go!''
Without a second thought the two dashed down a ravine separating them from a small village, as they approached three viscet children came bursting out of a faded red old clay building to the left of them, immediately Mura knelt down on her knee's as all three visclings pounced on her in a big hug, ''You're back Mura, back for the summer !'' The oldest of the three exclaimed happily. ''We missed you so much!'' All three said in unison, ''that's Miss Mura, remember to always use ones proper name like I taught you last year,'' Mura said in a playfully stern voice, ''Yes Miss Mura,'' one said with the other two quickly chiming in, ''You haven't forgotten anything else I taught you last year, now have you boys?''
''Oh no!'' They all said, Mura laughed, ''that's good, I'm glad. Well, now lets all go inside shall we?'' With that the five of them all ran into the house and for the first time one of them noticed Kass, ''who's he?'' The oldest asked suspiciously, pointing accusingly at Kass, ''oh! Yes - me, I'm Kasshoku, I'm a friend of Mura's,'' the small viscet slit his eyes, ''Well ok, you seem alright,'' Mura blushed, ''C'mon boys, why don't you show Mr. Kass your rooms?'' The three viscet's eyes lit up, ''Well c'mon then!'' They said rapidly running towards their room which the three visclings shared with three others. It was a little place, just barely squeezing in six beds, Kasshoku felt sorry for them, and wondered how they could be so happy that they seemed to be bursting at the seams.
''It's not much, but its alright,'' the eldest said with a shrug, ''oh, I almost forgot,'' Mura said digging into her large backpack, ''I got a present for each of you,'' she grinned as she handed each of them different little intricate wooden toys, their eyes gleamed bright and they gasped, staring at the objects. ''Run along now, give one to everyone here.''
For the next few days Kass got to know all the viscling children from the orphanage along with the staff and people of the village. In the first day after their arrival they helped fix the leaky roof of a farm house on the outskirts of the village with help of the children, and for the next three days Kass took seeds from his backpack and helped start a garden in the back of the orphanage to help with the visclings dwindling food supply, teaching them to take care of the garden and water it properly. And for the next few weeks they helped the whole village with their cracked walls, sicknesses, food and anything else they could do. Along with teaching many of the children to read and write, since most of them didn't know how it took the two a good long while to help teach them, but once they got the hang of it, they all loved it, starting to read their books all on their own.
After many, many hours of work all of the children decided to throw a party to celebrate all of the work they had done with Mura and Kass and to do it in their honor, so that night they picked all the food they could in the surrounding forest and set the table just the way Mura had taught them.
''Oh this is so wonderful! Thank you all,'' Mura said looking around the table with a soft smile, ''I mean it, this is very sweet - we may have to leave tomorrow, but remember, I'll come back next year for the summer and check up on your progress,'' one of the visclings looked up at Kass and asked, ''will you be coming back next year too, Mr. Kasshoku?'' All the children looked towards Kass anticipatingly with eyes wide, Kass looked down at them all, ''Well...'' he started, ''of course I will, and looking forward to it too,'' all the kids cheered, ''yay!'' all of them exclaimed and jumped into Kasses arms, Kass laughed, he never thought he could do so much good in just one third of the summer, and truly couldn't wait 'til next year.
