        [ 600 / 600 words ]

A fierce snarl cut the air from deep within Aelius’ father’s throat. His fist came crashing onto the table and those seated around flinched in fright―all except for Aelius.

β€œFather, stop . . .” Aelius scrambled to his paws in an instant, his claws quickly grappling the floor as he raced toward his raging father who had snatched a nearby torch. It's lapping flames illuminating his eyes wildly, his father whirled upon him, β€œAelius, do you have any idea what you've done? You should be punished for your treachery!” His voice boomed causing those at the table to sprint away for their weapons, β€œWhere do you think you’re going?”
β€œIf you won’t listen to me, I know who will.”

His father’s reply singed his ears, but Aelius didn't look back as he shouldered away the shouts of protest from his family and pelted through the doors toward the woods.

Even when he sensed the trees surrounding him, when his paws thudded across the rich soil, and when the earth's scents hit the roof of his mouth, Aelius didn't stop. Only when he sighted Caelestis did he begin to slow down resulting in a flurry of fur, paws, and tails as the reunited friends rolled together in locked embrace.

β€œCaelestis!” Aelius suddenly shuddered with terror, β€œMy family! They’re coming after yours!”
In a heartbeat, Caelestis’ fur began to bristle. Yet, when he faced his friend, he saw no fear in the courageous eyes which met his own.
β€œDid you trick me? All this time? Has it all been a trap to―”
A moment of silent pleading exchanged between them as Aelius stood his ground, trying to stifle the quivering of his legs.
Caelestis’ eyes narrowed as he arched back his head and yowled terribly to the sky.
Aelius leapt forward knocking the breath from Caelestis and swept a sheathed paw across his nose, β€œStop that! Now come on! We need to stop them!”
β€œI don’t know if I can trust you!” Caelestis batted him away when both suddenly heard a rustling nearby and their ears pricked cautiously, β€œIt’s too late now! I can’t believe what I’ve done . . . I’m sorry! We and our families are going to be crowfood!”
β€œNot if I can help it!” Aelius sunk his teeth into Caelestis' furry scruff and heaved upward from the thicket they had fallen into. Pelts rippling, boundeding after the patrol, previously signaled by Caelestis, whose only intention was to attack.

They raced past the trees, clambering upon the stones across the water, and heading down the valley in unfaltering pursuit. Nothing would stop them. Not even the sudden onslaught of heavy rain. Nothing. Nudging each other encouragingly, both arrived together upon a sodden hill, the rushing wind and water whipping against their faces. Below them were their families, armored and lust for blood written in the curves of their narrowed brows and tensed frames.

A mighty yowl of two combined voices split the crackling air.

One shared look passed between them.
        Two heads dipped in acknowledgement.
        Two heads raised.

Aelius and Caelestis firmly grasped each other’s paws, braving the foreboding fray between their feuding families as they neared the center, eyes ablaze. Both felt the shared shock piercing into their fur, the fear, the bewilderment replace the anger. Both turned to their respective families, swinging their heads. Enough.

For a long moment, there was nothing but the thunder's cries and the continued downpour.

Someone turned . . . no one was facing anyone any longer. All that remained were two friends, pressed into each other, sitting beneath the dwindling storm.

aahhhh this is so coincidental cause I literally just started re-reading the warriors series a few days ago !

. . . idk if I want him in a medieval-type era or not since his family is prob royalty and is part of a feud ??
but, I do know that I'd like for him to be a skilled tracker + hunter who's boss at archery. he's rly reasonable and is good at making decisions as well as acting quickly and efficiently under pressure. basically, he's a great leader in the making, but for now he's under the command of his father who's the main head of his family. whenever things are looking bleak, he's known to search for the light at the end of the tunnel and try coming up with solutions to problems by means of nonviolence first,, it isn't often that he agrees with the suggestion of waging war on anyone. he's vv precise in all things he does and can be firm when he decides what he thinks is right and what he thinks should be done. ahh yes, not to mention he's also quite a ladies man, but that kinda stuff doesn't quite interest him yet. his bff is caelestis !
