@lysander
Welcome to the lazy writers! Avoid carrots c:
As for lore help, I just need general help with what to write. I'm not sure how normal people do lore, so I'm pretty sure I've utterly messed up...

do you guys still roleplay? and if you do, what genre?
    I've never been a roleplayer, actually! Sometimes I'll do RPs with my friends on the phone and such, but never really with strangers online. I've done two, but one of them died before it even started, and in the other, no one really cared much about writing or character development. Plus, you have to make a lot of compromises, and I prefer having a written work to myself.

@Lysander
    Hello! Welcome to the thread.

@Silver
    Ooh, what color did you get it dyed? I've never been much into makeup/fashion/styling my hair, but a bunch of girls where I live dye their hair, and it looks really cool.

@Ranger
    I'm like Bucket--I really want to write something on the last prompt. That shark!

@Sparrow
    Well, you could always rewrite the script as a normal one-shot if you don't like it. Don't prioritize it, but work on it when you have the time. As for writing lore, are you looking more for advice on a lore-writing "style" or creating ideas and plots? I can't help much with the latter, but I do have some advice for that writing style:

    Read some mythology books or fairy tales! I'd recommend D'Aulaires' books on Greek and Norse mythology or Grimm's complete fairy tales (warning on the latter for anti-semitism, anti-atheism, and some racist symbolism). Pick apart the writing style. Lore uses minimal description, but the syntax gives off a sort of "lore vibe". Some sentences have lots of commas, and some have very few. Depending on the story, there may or may not be a ton of dialogue. Also, show-don't-tell doesn't apply to lore; you can tell the reader directly what's happening or how the characters feel. Here's some sentence examples from D'Aulaires' Book of Greek myths:
    "In olden times, when men still worshipped ugly idols, there lived in the land of Greece a folk of shepherds and herdsmen who cherished light and beauty."

    "Gaea, the Earth, came out of darkness so long ago that nobody knows when or how. Earth was young and lonesome, for nothing lived on her yet."

    "He was magnificent to behold, and young Earth looked up at him and fell in love with him."

Yess, Ikr! It's fascinated me for ages, but I've never gotten around to actually writing something XD

winged-backpack wrote:do you guys still roleplay? and if you do, what genre ?

I've never really been interested in roleplaying, and probably never will be. It's not my kind of thing, to be honest.

My story's going onto the 6th page, and I'm almost at the finish (probably got 1/2 pages left ish)
I'm not overly sure how I'm actually going to resolve it, in my nightmare I just woke up, not to mention there's been no planning behind this at all :lol:
Hopefully an ending will just write itself you know ^^'
Oh, awesome! Good luck! Hope it resolves itself for ya ;p

@Ranger- I love those prompts?? I might actually use one sometime.

Guys I finally got my hair dyed yesterday for the first time and it looks really cool AAAAAAA I'm so happy with it! I was really nervous, but??
Ikkkkkr

Oh wow! Cool. That's good that it worked and looks good, haha XD

@Ranger, wonderful prompts! I promise I'm reading your story. Got to the fight in the alley, and so far it's looking good!

Hehehe c; Wait, who? Which one? Who? ? XD

Do you think I should try writing a script again?
Yeah, go for it; even if you hate it, the idea has been preserved and you can always go back and edit it later without worrying that you might forget it c:

lysander wrote:@sparrow; what did you want help with in particular? o:

also hi everyone! i'm new to cs and i'm happy to be in such a creative community! i've been roleplaying and writing on and off since 2006 and i have terrible commitment issues... i'd link my writing blog but a lot of the material is too dark for cs LOL

re: roleplaying
i love doing it but honestly i can't commit to an rp at all these days, so i prefer just exchanging headcanons or writing solo since there's no pressure to reply that way... i miss it a lot but none of my favorite partners roleplay much either anymore so... oy vei i guess?

i've never written anthro or quad characters before www all my ocs are human save for a handful of demons and deities... i'm trying something new since i would like to break into the adoptable community >:3c

also i really need to finish the dozen or so short pieces i forgot about only like 2k words in looool
Kia ora, welcome along! Good to see you here c: Watch out for carrots!

Ikr! You could have so much fun with the character's emotions - terror - horror - more terror - more horror - ! >;D

Backpack, which story's this? What was it about, again? sorry, my rememberer isn't being very helpful atm :-/

Wish I could help, Sparrow, but I've never actually written any lore for my dragons, either....

Welcome new peeps! Stay away from carrots.

@sparrow my lore sucks and I have no idea what I'm doing so I'm not sure how helpful I can be, but if you'd like, you can read my clan lore
Also I'm not sure if it was you (forgive me if it wasn't) but you should totally try the script again. Just go for it. If it sucks, then you know what not to do next time.

@Ranger I love those prompts! Also, I think the challenge thing is cool and don't really have anything to add at this point.

@Silver Congrats! I got my hair cut and dyed not that long ago. It's super short and green now

@backpack I love your sig

do you guys still roleplay? and if you do, what genre?
No. I did for awhile (that's why I have a crazy number of posts) but then I realized that I kinda hated it? Like some of the people were great to talk to, but I just... I prefer writing by myself, for myself.

I got a tumblr finally and I wrote a one shot about Nico and Will. It sucks. But I finally wrote some fanfiction. Curses.
Also we went to pride today.

@Worst- Me neither, haha. I actually don't even wear makeup, but I decided I should at least make an effort with my hair now, hm? It's a silvery pale/light blue and the ends are faded to blonde. I'm pretty happy with it ^^

@Ranger- X3

@Mori- Thanks! And ooh, that sounds cool :0

In an effort to stay on topic, I have some pretty good news. I've made it a third of the way through "Caught In The Rain"! I can't even believe I made it this far. I'm astonished that I've stuck with it this long. If anyone wants to read what I've got so far, I'll link you to my Wattpad c:

Also, for those of you struggling with villains, like me, this is a really awesome thing I found to help you out for realistic motivations for bad guys:

thanks for the welcomes everyone!!!

re: villains

oh boy i love talking about writing so i'll just leave some thoughts on villains here:

the thing that i find that works for me is to create a villain just as you would any other character; tbh im of the opinion that good vs evil is a very VERY subjective and relative thing and everything kind of depends on context. some of the best villains are the most relatable ones— ones that you can actually identify with because they go through struggles just like anyone else. this makes them memorable because it reminds us that anyone is capable of awful things if pushed far enough!

a really good example of a GREAT villain is flowey from undertale!! if you've played it then you know why eehe

another good villain creation trick i use is to make them unpredictable! i'm thinking about satou from ajin specifically— he's charismatic, sociable, a very pleasant person- but also ruthless and most of all, unpredictable! this makes him a fun and exciting villain (that i personally like better than any character in ajin lol) because he's interesting and you have no idea what he's going to do next. villains that are quirky, funny, and show more traits outside of being evil.

also! going back to my other thought, the word "antagonist" does not necessarily mean evil! it only means that this is the character that opposes the protagonist! example: light yagami from death note! he's the protagonist of the series, sure, but he's definitely not what you'd call a real angel of justice! he is, in this case, an anti-hero! most people tend to root for the antagonist in this series— L, because he is a far more likable and just character (at least imo!)

tldr; i treat villains the same as my other characters!

Hey guys, I wrote a thing~
So... you have no back-story, no idea who these people are, no idea what's going on (I think), and I haven't looked this over. So this should be interesting, to say the least.... But anyways, it's from the same guy who 'wrote' invisible bunny-ears the small piece at the start of this post. Um. So I hope you can make heads or tails of it enjoy it, and... I'd appreciate feedback, but yeah?? Very much a WIP lol. Also it's kinda late and I have no idea if the ending makes sense uGH *dies*

xxxxxHe waited outside — for how long he didn't know — scuffing his boots in the dehydrated dust. Heat beat down rhythmically, almost forcefully, on his exposed neck. And the stillnes was stifling. Uncharacteristically, the camp was hushed and quiet. Stunned and in shock. Only the sound of soft weeping broke through the thick fog in his mind.
xxxxxFinally — finally — Jerry emerged from the tent. His eyes were hollow and bloodshot; haunted; his face an icy white. As his mate walked by without a word or a glance, a stab of pain ricocheted through Jared's heart. The world was suddenly too large.
xxxxxSteeling himself, he brushed the tentflap aside and forced himself into the tent, launching forward almost too fast to stop himself.
xxxxxThe low, ragged stretcher stood alone, bearing a single body. Blood soaked his arm and chest; sweat stood out against his deathly-pale skin, and a bandage wrapped his forehead.
xxxxxThe soldier stumbled forward, dropping unsteadily to his knees and clasping the other man's limp hand in his as his eyes blurred.
xxxxxWhy did life have to be this way? It wasn't fair.
xxxxx“You'll be right, Frank,” he murmured brokenly, squeezing the limp hand. “You'll be right, I'll get you home — I'll get you home to Emmie again.”
xxxxxSuddenly Frank's eyes shot open, bleary and wild as they rolled in his head; Jared straightened, pressing an arm against the other's chest to keep him still.
xxxxx“Sh, sh, sh — you're alright. It's alright, Frankie,” he murmured soothingly, pain and fear and hope tightening his throat. “You'll be alright.”
xxxxxFrank's unfocused eyes landed on his comrade's, and he opened his mouth a few times; no sound came out.
xxxxx“Red?” he gasped finally, voice gurgling sickeningly. “That-that you, mate?”
xxxxxJared nodded and sniffed, realising only as he squeezed the feebly-twitching hand that his cheeks were wet.
xxxxx“Yeah — yeah, it's me,” he affirmed gruffly. “It's me, mate; it's me, Frankie.” A brief, watery smile worked its way across Jared's face before wavering away.
xxxxx“I-I need — I did — I-I drew — you need to — promise me!” Frank's throat and lungs sounded full of phlegm, and Red felt his heart sink like a stone to the toes of his boots.
xxxxx“Of course — anything, mate — anything.”
xxxxx“I — I need you — to — to-to-to — to — ” Frank's hands scrabbled desperately at his jacket-pocket and Jared lunged forward, restraining his friend.
xxxxx“Hang on, mate, I'll get it for ya.” It was hard — so, so hard, to sound cheerful; to be reassuring; to not sink in the swamp of pain and grief and bitter hatred. Bitter everything. And hold himself together. But he had to. And he was.
xxxxxAll he found in Frank's pocket was paper — but it was worth a-thousand times its weight in gold.
xxxxx“T-take it — for... me. To... to — to Gerald — Geraldine Mcmill...”
xxxxx“A new one, huh, Frankie?” Red grimaced in amusement. “But 'Mcmill' — that's not a name; Geraldine who?...” The words died in his throat as he glanced at the other man.
xxxxxExpressionless. Cold. White. Blank.
xxxxx“Frank-Frankie? Frankie, no! NO!” Not another one — another childhood buddy —
xxxxx“Doctor!” Jared screamed — then instincts took over; the rush of adrenaline before a charge. “Medic! MEDIIIIC!!
