Tracker Dog #24 I Available until March 8
Gender: Male
With the glowy patterns and dark fur, this Tracker is a true night owl. He loves the smell of the cold air of night and can actually tell night from day. He's made for nightly Tracking, letting his markings glow when he's found something important, and serving as a spare flashlight for its owner.

Tracker Dog you want: #24
Name you'll give him: Nox, it means night. I went on a bunch of name meaning websites but this is the closet I could get to the meaning I was looking for. I think it's a cute name.
Reason why you want it: I've been watching the tracker dogs for a while but this is the first time I've seen one that I really want. I'd love to have him partially because he reminds me of myself. I'm a total night owl and if he were a real dog I would run around outside with him every night seeing what we could find. I love the smell of the night air. I also love his coat pattern. The fact that his markings glow just make him even cooler! I love how you wrote that he serves as a spare flashlight, I'm always in need of a light!
Will he be used in any kind of story? YES! I am constantly writing little short stories and am currently thinking one up. I'll probably continue the one in the introduction and if I do write a story I'll be sure to tell people you made him and the breed and post a link back to this forum if I put my story on the internet.
Describe his personality: Nox is an amazingly protective and loyal tracker dog now that Kina is his owner(though Kina prefers to call them friends). He is very good at the job he was trained to do and can find anything. His favorite time of day is night and most of the time he sleeps during the day in small caves or under trees. Nox was originally adopted by an avid hunter in a small town. Sadly this man did not treat him very well. Nox, being the trained animal he is, did follow the man's commands but not because he wanted to. He was very depressed and longed to be free of the hunter's control so he could roam in the woods. When he runs off with Kina he finally gets to. Nox also likes to act likes he's very serious but Kina can always get him to laugh and if Kina is the one who's sad he always does something stupid to cheer her up.
Kina, my main OC, lives in a fictional world of my creation and has a rare ability to read a dogs thoughts. Basically she can see the colors and images of their mind and read them like we do a book. It's hard to explain so when I'm writing it looks like they are talking but they actually aren't. At first Nox is surprised by Kina's abilities, then a little freaked out but after that he really just questions how it works and fears it will stop working.
Write an introduction for your Tracker:
.
Dark, finally night. The moon is low and I creep towards the house one slow step at a time. The house seems abandoned, I've been watching for 4 days and no one has come in or gone out. I say a quick prayer asking the moon to keep me safe. One foot at a time, watching my feet, counting my steps. 1, 2, 3, 4, 1, 2, 3, 4... Oh how I hate the counting but I can't stop. Finally I sneak up the stairs and pull on the door. It swings open on squeaky hinges and I cringe hoping no one heard. I slide in through the open doorway and quickly shut it behind me. I slide to the floor, my back against the door, and smile into the darkness. "I made it in."
"Hurry up mutt!"
He calls to me but I hate to go. Slowly I jog up beside his horse using the 4 day trip as an excuse for my pace. Luckily he doesn't notice. 'Almost home' I think to myself, laughing at the word home. 'I have no home, only a box in a house I must share with this man' The hunter leans back on his horse and smiles to himself. "I got some mighty fine kills this weekend. Mighty fine."
His voice in my sensitive ears disgusts me. I hate the sound of this man's voice. 'Of course he gives me no credit.' I think. Remembering chasing the prize buck through the night myself, no food or water, as the man followed on his horse stopping to eat as he pleased. I frown, my tongue sticking out of my mouth. I must be very humorous to look at.
We round some trees and come into the clearing with the house in the center. It is then that it hits me, a scent that drags me out of my own depressing thoughts. A young female, human, had just passed though not much more than 20 minutes earlier. I think of the man uneasily, he'll kill any intruder with out a thought be it man, woman, human, or animal. Luckily the man is still oblivious to the scent. He slows his horse and slides off her back. He takes off her tack and I gently chase her into her pin, not even having to bark. The man picks up her fur and meat and walks up the steps. I follow my tail hanging limp at thoughts of what is to come. I can hear her now, the girl in the house now destined to die. The man pushes open the door.
I rummage through the house as soon as I see it's empty. My starving stomach takes over and I rush the fridge grabbing every thing I can. I want to eat it all! I slide to the floor in front of the open fridge and shove something in my most. I chew and swallow hard then throw the next bite of food in. I smile, I haven't eaten in a week.
I'm not sure how long I was there but by the time I heard the voice I was full. Sadly I didn't hear the voice in time to escape.
I take in the scents before me and the image I form is terrible. A young girl, half starved with ripped clothing is sitting on the floor in a circle of food. Cold air flows towards me form the open fridge and I hear multiple thuds as the man drops his things in shock. For one terrible moment everything is silent. Then all at once the noise is back. The man rushes forwards as the girl hurries to her feet, a piece of meat still clenched between her teeth. She slides past the man and turns to the open door. The man slips and falls sideways as the girl rushes past me through the door into the night. I may be imagining it but I think she smiled at me.
When the man lunged all I could think of was getting out and that's exactly what I did. I ran straight for the door. It was around that moment that I noticed the Tracker Dog. I rushed past him and smiled though I don't think he could see it, they don't have eyes you know.
The man yells at me many times. At first i don't hear but the command eventually reaches my strong ears. "GET HER!" He curses and yells as he gets to his feet. I am off. I leap over the stairs and into the trees following the girls scent easily. I am a silent shadow in the moon light, the perfect hunter. My markings glowing brightly so that the man can find me. I catch up to the girl quickly and for a moment run beside her. She looks at me and I can sense her sadness. Do I really want the man to find me?
I look at the tracker and I can see it, the sadness and hopelessness in his thoughts. I run, counting my steps in groups of 4, and he follows but he makes no move to capture me or alert his owner. 'He hates him' I think to myself. Once more I look at the tracker then I turn sharply and sprint down a hidden path that leads to the cave I've been living in. The tracker follows.
I slowly dim my markings. The man is far behind and lets be honest, I don't want him to find me, I don't want him to find this girl. She turns and so do I. I'm not sure why but I'm drawn to this girl.
I slow my pace until I'm walking, 1, 2, 3, 4 1, 2, 3, 4, there's no chance the man will find my trail. I am safe and so is the tracker. I walk to the back of my cave and the dog follows. I smile at him, still not sure if he can see, and pat the spot beside me twice. He walks over and sits beside me. "Thank you." I say truly grateful. "You dimmed your light so the hunter wouldn't find me, thank you."
He stares at me with unseeing eyes, forming a picture in his mind. "My name is Kina," I say kindly. "What's yours?"
I stare at her, this strange girl. She speaks to me like no other human has and for some reason she seems to know I can understand her. Suddenly I find myself wondering if she can understand me. "Nox" I try to say but it comes out in a bark, frustrated I try again. "Nox!" Same bark. 'Nox, Nox, Nox!' I think in my mind angry at myself for being a fool.
"Hello Nox." the girl says smiling sweetly.
'You can understand me?'
(And so begins Nox and Kina's adventures together. As stated earlier I would love to get this Tracker Dog! Honestly if I could I would probably write more but I have to go to bed. I'll check back in later to see who wins and if anyone feels like it please tell me what you think of my writing even if I don't win! Thanks for reading my entry
