Username: Grifforik
Name: Rinji (or Rin for short)
Gender: Male
Personality:
Rin is very serious almost all of the time. He is very much a princely child and is mostly aloof and quiet. His nature has always been about helping and protecting others and he's fiercely loyal and doggedly determined to learn how to make the most of himself. His goal to become a protector and a Guardian is lofty to be sure, but its one he is bound and determined to follow through with. His boundless energy and determination make him a target for teasing, which he usually takes good naturedly, but he can only handle so much teasing before he gets his feelings hurt (a hurt he hides behind a mast of indifference). However, he makes up for it by being incredibly helpful and sweet, he's always willing to help friends and loves to go on adventures.
Likes:
-The quiet of the forest during the morning. Rin's favorite time is when the world is walking up.
-Sweets, like most little boys he loves anything sweet, though pie is his favorite (blueberry being the key to his little heart)
-His family, though he wants to travel he also wants to go home home some day and show them his ability to protect them (even if they don't think they need it.)
Dislikes:
-Sitting indoors, he'd rather be running around outside, he's not a fan of being cooped up, it makes for boring times and sad times.
-Being teased about his size, hes very sensitive about his size.
-Storms, he's always been a little afraid of them so doesn't like them because he doesn't like being afraid.
-Anyone who might tease or harm anyone he cares about, he's small but tough.
Collects:
Rin loves different kinds of arrows, and tends to collect them, he has a neat little stash of them hanging on his wall. The crazier the better. He's something of an archer, as part of his training, but mostly he just likes how different they are from other things, they take a lot of craftsmanship and care to make, and while he's still clumsy at it, Snow is teaching him how to make basic arrows, ergo his appreciation for well made interesting ones.
Story:
The day wasn't particularly cold, or hot, it was a beautiful summer day and the little viscet who sat in the shade of a huge tree could only think that it was dismal. His family had their plans and their life, this forest was vast, and he a prince of the blood, should have more to do. He'd rarely seen his parents lately, though they were loving and amazing, they had very busy lives. And Rin was too little and too nervous to actually feel good about joining them. He had no interest in running a kingdom, nor any interest in learning how to. His mother and father were amazing at it, and his brother had not interest either (his brother was who he was closest too, another soul that would rather not be royal, and would rather follow his dreams, but he still loved the family and took part when he needed to), but all little Rin ever wanted to do was protect it. He had a warriorβs spirit trapped in a tiny body, he knew heβd never grow big enough to protect the kingdom and had eventually asked to be allowed to travel, something his parents allowed, and so for a year and a day heβd been traveling the wide forests of their world. And here he was now, sitting all alone (his escort having been forced to repair their wagon) staring at the cloudy sky and sighing to himself.
Where was the action? The adventure? Where were the monsters to fight and the glory to have? He was small, but fierce. He knew if he only had the chance to prove himself he could show the world that prince Rin was something more than a wandering son.
He sighed again, and squinted as he spotted something moving along the road, it was a tall cream and spotted viscet, wearing the trappings of a forester, with a bow and quiver of arrows slung across his shoulders, he looked both confident and cool, as if he could handle the world. Rin was instantly stung with an idea, maybe he could get this male to take him on as his apprentice! Rin was small and quick to learn, and if he was anything as good as his gear he would be able to teach Rin all about the forest and how to protect it, for the viscet was a Forester and from the little crown on his tunic he was one of the human kingβs foresters, the emerald on the crown showed that he was THE Kings forester, the head of his small army of them, they were the best of the best, they protected the people, and that was exactly what Rin wanted.
He leapt to his feet in excitement, he wouldnβt waste time waiting, or asking around, no one would dare fake the forester sigle it was too important and too well known. Better to forge one of that of the army (for it was not large and it was rather easy to get into, it didnβt take much to hold a spear after all).
βSir!?β Rin called to the male, running to catch up to him.
βHm?β The male muttered glancing around curiously.
βUm.. hello, Iβm Rinβ¦oh errr, Iβm Rinji, and I want to become your apprentice!β He said, all in a rush and slightly out of breath, he was excited and scare, and elated all at the same time. This was his chance!
βNo thanks Kid, I have enough on my plate as is,β the male shook his head and turned away, walking with long easy stride.
Rin was temporarily stunned, he hadnβt thought anyone would say no. What should he do? And before he could stop himself he trotted after the male to catch up, staying just behind him. If he wouldnβt teach him now, then Rin would follow him until he either gave in or something happened. Either way, it was more fun than staring at the sky and being depressed.
βGo away kid,β the male growled over his shoulder, walking faster, obviously annoyed.
βNever,β Rin muttered, puffing to keep up with the male, almost running.
Rin followed him through the town, and out into the forest, he tripped over so much, got his tail caught in several thickets and managed to scratch his nose on a stick he stepped on that slapped him in the face, and still he grimly followed, trying to keep up.
Suddenly the male stopped, and started laughing, he turned and looked down at little Rin, who was covered in dirt and leaves and had a large scratch on his poor nose, and smiled at him.
βYouβre not going to give up are you kid?β he said, eyes bright with something Rin couldnβt figure out.
βNo.β He said, defiantly, voice full of suspicion, he couldnβt understand what had changed.
βMy nameβs Snow Steele, but you can call me Snow, or Sir. And if youβre going to follow me you need to learn how to walk quietly, because right now every forest creature can hear you coming from miles around,β he chuckled, and helped dust Rin off.
βI know, its what I want to learn.β Rin said, a tab bit resentfully.
βNo need to be snappy kid, weβll fix that quickly enough, now, the first thing you gotta do isβ¦β
And that was the beginning of his training to be a Forester. Rin was well on his way to making his family proud, but he had so many more adventures ahead of him that he didnβt know about. Soon heβd meet a real Guardian of the forest, someone even Snow showed respect too, and eventually, though he didnβt know it yet, he would find friends and his purpose in life would be complete.
Friend story:
Once when they were running through the forest we stopped at a weird giant tree that had windows and a door on the front, Rin wasnβt sure why theyβd stopped or what they were doing. Snow seemed confident as he strolled into the βyardβ that was surrounded by flowers and weird growing plants. It was oddly charming and nicely set up, and Rin felt a sort of peace descend on him. Until the door opened and two little female visects poured out. They were chatty and bold and asked Snow a million questions before heβd made it a few feet into the yard.
He laughed and patted them both on the head affectionately, and Rin felt a pang of jealousy, that they got instant affection from his teacher but he had to work for it, how was that fair? He felt his face freeze in a cool expression, he would feel nothing. But before he could work himself into any sort of anger the girls spotted him and rushed over, much to his dismay. They asked him a million questions, and he couldnβt answer a single one before they posed another, they were cheerful and sweet, but they wouldnβt let him get more than a half word out before asking a different question. He looked desperately at his teacher, who only shook his head and grinned, miming that they were his problem.
βGirls!? Are you bothering the poor boy? And Snow you beast, you know better than to let them go on. Let him answer a question before you ask a million more,β she admonished the girls, her voice was both firm and affectionate, she obviously cared a great deal about them.
Rin was relieved that theyβd stopped talking at him, and glanced over to thank the kind female with the lovely voice, and was instantly startled, and alarmed. She had scars on her face and body, she was missing half her ear and her tail had been cut off. Who would do something like that?
He went hot then cold, the ever present sense of responsibility inside him and his own honor made him very aware that this was a possibility in this world, he knew, in an abstract way, that bad things happened, but here was the result, a beautiful female with scars from whatever horror sheβd survived stood firm and happy, she was an example of what he would fight for, and he suddenly realized why Snow had brought him here, to see with his own eyes what he would eventually face. Would he gain scars like that someday? Probably. Would it stop him from trying? Never.
He felt a well of emotion spring up in him, but before he could figure out what it was, the girls were off again, and finally he was able to answer some of the millions of questions thrown his way. He even began to enjoy their company, they were intelligent after all, not just nattering fluff brains.
He found out that the female was Mamma Pie, and the girls were Flora and Sabaku (Saba for short). Saba was the more outspoken of the two and Flora was a little shyer. Flora was the one responsible for the weird plants and Saba for the cute little creatures he kept seeing, together they apparently helped heal the animals and people of the forest, along with Mamma Pies help.
These were the people that Rin would someday fight for, and they were good people, people he would come to know very well, and even think of as an extended family someday.
