Writing Prompt Day 2:

He never got the chance to hand the letter off. Of course they had to be moving again on Valentine's day, and of course he had forgotten despite his parents' frequent reminders.

Things like that just slipped Dustin's mind.

The little kalon had been sitting on his bed, pen in paw, surrounded by crumpled scraps of paper completely flooded with the kind of ink that only comes from fancy ballpoint pens, and the kind he was now running low on. Dustin had been trying for hours to get his handwriting even remotely legible and yet still none of his family could decipher what he had written.

"That's a P not an R, why would I be writing about rage?"

But this attempt was going to be perfect- it had to be. His strokes were clear and determined and the little bird he had doodled in the margins hadn't run into the words as it tried to take flight. Instead it hung on the unlined paper as if suspended by an invisible string. Dustin was proudly crossing his last T when a sudden rapping on the door frame startled him and turned his T into a scribble that ripped through half the page.

"Come on we gotta hurry up. The plane's leaving soon."

"The plane? Oh. But I-"

Dustin looked down at his ruined note morosely before nodding to himself and shoving the paper into an envelope and putting that envelope in his journal. He caught the suitcase tossed at him and began to shove in clothes of questionable cleanliness ontop of which he placed his mementos gently. His books, his small collection of souvenirs, and last of all his journal. Then the kalon zipped it all shut and dashed out the door after his family.

I'll mail it when we arrive. No problem right?

But like almost all his intended letters this one stayed stuck between the pages of his journal for years to come.
