The Dungeon Mistress wrote:Tracker Dog Application Series 7
Username: The Dungeon Mistress
Tracker Dog you want: #21
Name you'll give it: Creeping Barrage
> The Creeping Barrage, for all those not in the know, was a World War One tactic and involed using heavy artillery to cover your men while they went through No Man's Land. I am assuming this is the origin of 'cover fire', though I am unsure of this fact.
> The Creeping Barrage tactic did have it's problems but overall was a large advantage. I am going to assume this is the same with the tracker Creeping Barrage because he is the first of his kind and therefore probably has design faults somewhere.
> Creeping Barrage is affectionatley nicknamed "Creep" by his Handler, Kat.
Reason why you want it:
> I am loving his adorable colour scheme and I feel it would work really well with the new Cyberpunk phase I'm going through.
> I find the weaponary very appealing and feel that he is perhaps the most awesome traker I have seen yet.
> Also, I was going to look for either an aquatic or an aerial, but this one is just so awesome and I am in love. <3 I'm actually bothering to go about this against all the other amazing forms, so it has to be really, really good.
> As I have mentioned before, the fact that he is the first tracker with a weapon fused into it demands exploration. Overcomming mild problems in design, etc, would be really cool! [Unless, of course, Nex says no faults, this is how many shots this guys has, etc. C;]
Will it be used in any kind of story? Yes! I am thinking furturistic, Cyberpunk war with some awesome comic book style villans... It's got my muse going again! C:<
>Creeping Barrage will also have to be given a character thread of his own with his story in it. I will order art when I have enough pets, or I shall find some of the freebie artists around the boards to draw him. If I get anymore trackers, I will write them into this story too. I plan to make it quite complex, with a few sides to every chapter.
>I'd also put him to 'guard' by trades
>One word: Add to fanfiction stories. Particually crossovers. n.n
What would you do if you won it?: Like the many others, I would run around screaming like a mad woman, trying to hug James [my laptop], even kissing my slimy little brother and possibly his friend too, start dancing, phone all my friends, PM all my CS friends and show them, take a breath, dance around a bit, post it on facebook, yell, wake up the neighbours, then faint with the awesomeness of it all. 8D[Try reading that ten times fast!]
Proposed Job/Role in Society:
> As Creeping Barrage is a Stealth Tracker, his primary role is to sneak in to enemy or law breakers buildings and gather intelligence.
> With the gun on his back, however, his purpose in missions can be that of a hidden sniper, shooting from concealed points and causing lots of damage.
> Creeping Barrage is required to make public apperances, especially to schools and parks, to give lectures to people about saftey or about joining one of the five Neon City Enforcer Squads. ['Enforcer Squads' are basically the Armed Forces, Intelligence Agencies and Police Forces combined. "Neon City" is the place where all the action is set.]
Proposed Handler: Creeping Barrage's proposed Handler would be Kat Shadow, my Fursona; just with a more Cyberpunk look, background and job.
> Most information about Kat Shadow will be in my Fursona thread, for which the link is in my siggy. In this, Kat has taken her anthromorpic Aye-Aye form, with all the markings.
> Kat works for the 'Neon City Enforcer Squad: Green' as a hit person and weapons specialist. She works to eliminate the threats of evil doers to society... literally.
[More information on Kat and her role will be explored throught the story and the introduction, as will links to clothing and explination of ideas.]
Theme Song: 'Showdown' by Pendulum. Please ignore the video.
Describe its personality:
> Creeping Barrage, like all trackers, is very loyal to both his creator, Nex, and handler, Kat. He has some degree of bondage to Green Squad and to the wider forces of the orginaisation and has pride in the fact he helps keep Neon City safe. He does his very best and beyond to follow his orders and the wills of his handle; even if he was only hanging onto life by a thin thread he would try and finish his orders.
> Creep is quite a possesive Tracker and often claims he 'owns' Kat. He dislikes seeing her by herself, in case she runs off without him, and is very much jealous when she talks to other people. This, unfortunately, is very hard to get over, even when Kat tries to shake him out of it.
> Creep gets quite quilt ridden when he does something wrong, be it failing to get the intel needed, or simply getting dirt on the rug. It takes a promise of a walk and a trip to the shooting gallery to make him feel less depressed.
> Like Kat, Creep is mildly trigger-happy and likes violence. He enjoys fighting movies with lots of action and comes alive during dangerous situations in missons. This may be one of the reasons why he is very well matched with Kat. Kat and Creep have managed to grasp using their various weapons together in fights due to many hours at the shooting gallery, where they both feel deeply contented.
> Unlike Kat, Creep harbours a fear of hights. He dislikes flying with Kat on her pulse board [Neon City's transport of choice- a type of hoverboard, but with more gadgets. It is controled by how you move your body]; especially when they're in a high speed chase. Of course, being the proud tracker he is, he won't admmit his fear to anyone, and does his best to work around it.
> Creep is also very affectionate, though he doesn't look it. Once you have gained his trust, he will bath you with his lickly long toungue and take over your lap so you can't move anywhere for a while. He's very cuddly and likes being fussed over, especially by little kids.
> Like many Enforcers and Trackers, Creep has become naturaly suspicious and inquisitive. He likes to puzzle over things on the off chance that they will help him in his mission. He understands quite a lot of things, as he is patient enough to work it out, which sharply contrasts to and sometimes brings him to odds with Kat.
> Something he has learnt while living with Kat is joking around. Like any dog, if you turn a water stick [a bit like a hose pipe] or put him in a dry room [think a room full of hairdryers that are lights, if you get what I mean], he will run around barking. He has also learnt the art of blackmail, which annoys Kat and her friends. Being a stealth tracker, he is really good at finding the best blackmail for people. Creep very much enjoys going out for walks to the park and exploring the city more. He especially likes the city at night, when all the lights are on, as it lets him see the colours better. It might also be the fact that Kat is wandering around half-blind because of all the lights. [What a meanie... Cx]
> Creeping Barrage has a fast metabolism and needs to eat quite a lot. Therefore, his main wish is for food, and he sometimes drags Kat into cafes across the City in his needing for feeding. Most of the cafe owners now Creep by now and give him free food when they see him, and the customers laugh and fuss over him. This makes Creep have quite a high opinion of himself, though that quickly deflates when Kat gives him the look as, according to her, "An Enforcer gettin' an overinflated ego will quickly think that he is superior to many others, gettin' more and more bossy and boastful, until someone important gets p*s*e* of and fires 'im." This makes Creep shut up pretty quickly.
> Finally, Creeping Barrage is quite pessimistic, though he does his very best to live in the moment with the rest of the population of the loud, fast, bright Neon City that he lives in.
Write an introduction for your Tracker:
The best introduction known to the trigger happy populance
>A really, really awesome gun: Kat
The green gunk zoomed towards the metal chair with alarming speed, prompting us to wonder what would happen if it hit. With the safety visor Nex had told me to put on darkening the room, I had to wonder why she'd given it to me. As I watched the projectile chemical fly closer to the chair I felt the exited twinges of anticipation in my stomach. The slime hit the chair, and suddenly flickering flames were dancing on the top, while half of the leg had been blown clean off. Another part of the chair was making an acidic puddle and the handle of the chair was so hot if you touched it you would probably set fire to yourself.
"That-", my brother was the first to speak because the rest of us were shell-shocked, "-was a very low-power shot?" I gave a maniacal grin towards the source of the chaos; a dog with a large dragging tongue, six ey-optics and a massive gun on his back which was steaming with the release of the last shot. I turned to Nex, tacking in her proud smile, the eyes that twinkled with affection towards her creation- all of which added up to an awesome mad scientist look. "Please, Ma'am, can I take this one?"
>It's a woman's job, I swear!: Kat
I suppose I should start from the beginning, now you've had an exciting bit. I'm Kat Shadow, Hit Person and Weapons Specialist and general bad-ass for the Enforcers. I live in Neon City, the most amazing place ever- where else can you have a Knitting shop next to a Pulse Board hire place?- and I do a very, very good job at keeping it a safe place to live, if I do say so myself. A while ago, I got a message from the boss telling me I was gonna get a partner. Now, while I'm nice and all, I'm pretty solitary. I didn't think I needed a partner, and I told him so. His answer? "You'll change your mind when you see him". This, of course, made me intensely curious and mildly p*s*e* off. I don't need anyone to help me, especially not a male. That's just insulting!
Annoyingly, all the other people in Green Squad seemed to know who my partner was. Even Beth, my best bud and our technological expert *cough*computergeekandhacker*cough, splutter* was assuring me I'd like 'him'.
"What I wouldn't give to see your face when you see him!", she'd laughed as she turned to the information on our next target. "You'll be so surprised, and grateful!"
"Beth, if this means a stupid Raver champion with swishy blond hair and a tan..." I remembered the last time she'd tried to set me up with someone. I'd ended up breaking his nose, the arrogant jerk. God, if she'd been one of the ones to choose my partner, I'd end up killing someone- preferably the partner, then a bad guy, then Beth.
"No, it's not!" Beth grinned at me, and swished her pink bob out of her face to play about with her info lens. "You'll really, really like this one! Man, if I had one of those as a partner, I would be over the moon! Unfortunately, She doesn't make any that will help me..."
"Right..." Beth wasn't making any sense what-so-ever- and she's supposed to be the 'smart one' in our team. Honestly, if we weren't so damn lucky and good at using our weapons -hours and hours of practise- we would have died a long time ago.
"Kat?" I stopped and looked up from where I was 'memorising' the information on my target. "Mmm?" I asked, not really bothered now we'd stopped talking about my proposed 'partner'. "A) Stop dwelling who your partner is, you'll find out tomorrow, and B) Your shift is over". I stood and walked out of the building with a little wave to my co-workers, glad of the fact that my day was over. Jumping on my Enforcer-logoed Pulse Board I took to the sky, obeying the speed limits, though I really couldn't wait till I got out of the uniform and into my civilian clothes. Then I could, well, not exactly ignore the rules, but slightly break a few of them. This comforting thought on my mind, I flew home cheerfully with a smile.
<A little gung-ho, are we?: Creep
I paused as I calculated the distance between me and the target, then at which points maximum damage would be done. This brainwork done, I steadied myself and charged my gun. I looked over to Nex, waiting for her signal. "Maximum force. Fire." With a single thought, the gun's trigger flicked and I almost stepped back with the force of the shot. When I got my bearings back, all that was left of the target was a small pile of ashes. Nex smiled. "Well done!" Her voice was full of pride and excitement; "I cannot wait until your new handler gets here! Her reaction, apparently, is going to be amazing! I bet she will adore you! If not, I certainly do, and I might just not let you go!"
Her teasing made me wag my tail and puff my chest out. Nex tickled my chin gently. "Just tomorrow and you will be leaving... I will miss you, Pup. Maybe when we see each other after you'll have more brothers and sisters with weapons!" While at first she was heavy hearted, the last few words had made her get that mad, exited glint in her eye. "Come on, X, we are going to use holographic targets to practise on before we call it a night!" I licked her hand gently, then howled for joy and moved closer to where the image projector was.
I fired my gun, obeying all of Nex's instructions with an innate ability and grace. The rest of my brain wandered to my new handler. According to Nex, who was the most trustworthy person I knew, She was part animal, so -hopefully- would be able to understand me. Also, like Nex, She was female. She was a hit person and a weapons specialist, so was the most qualified in her team to deal with me. According to her brother, Kieran, who had been in charge of keeping it a surprise, she hero-worshiped Nex and her creations. Most of us at the labs found that incredibly both amusing and good for our egos.
When one of my shots ended up nearly blowing a hole in the wall, Nex pronounced it the end of the session. "Well done, Pup. You'll make a good enforcer- scratch that- an amazing one!" Nex gave a laugh and nearly danced down the hallway. "Kat's just going to love you!" I watched her leave, and then one of the things she had said struck me. 'My handler's name is cat? Isn't that an animal?'
>Tried to wake me up and got injured- it's your own fault: Kat
I am not a daytime person. I am nocturnal, take the night shift at work whenever at all possible and limit the amount of time I'm in the light. Unfortunately, birds chatter loudly at dawn, Raver clubs are open 24 hours with their music, there are loads of traffic jams and my brother happens to enjoy calling in on me. So, I wasn't best pleased when I was actually sleeping before he jumped on me.
"Hey, Sissy, up and at 'em!" Kieran grinned, yanking off my covers. I glared at him sleepily, before burying my face into my pillow. "Notgettinup" I muttered. "Go way. Or I'll kick ya". The idiot then stole my pillow, before saying "I know you're an Aye Aye, but you've got a partner to see!" I groaned loudly, kicked him off my bed and stomped into the bathroom with a slam of the door.
I looked blearily into the mirror, my big white stripy ears and tail very obvious though my untameable black hair did it's very best to hide them. -"Ears and tail? What?" I hear you cry. Well, as it so happens, I am a human/Aye Aye hybrid. With white tiger markings. Don't judge or ask me why, 'cos I don't know. Don't worry your pretty little heads off though, Kieran's one hundred percent human- Sighing at my reflection, I started my routine.
Bumbling out of the bathroom like a drunk, I wandered into my bedroom. It had taken me a while to re-colour my streaks with my light bender [a UV light type thing that almost bend light around something so it looks a different colour], but I was still tired. And p*s*e* off at my dearest brother for waking me up. Selecting my jumpsuit and goggles from the touchpad on the wardrobe I glanced at my single non-photograph poster. It was one of the Nex tracker dogs, the only animal I really wanted. These dogs were intelligent, brave, and cute and were very good for their purpose. The only one who made them was Nex, a female being who lived in seclusion in the old laboratories just outside town. She was my idol, the one person who I really wanted to meet. Others had their famous Ravers, their handsome Pulse racers; I had a mad scientist who made dogs. Normal is for losers.
I walked into my living room where Kieran was waiting. "Took you long enough, huh? If you knew where we were going I bet you'd have been here within a millisecond." Before I could question why, he chucked me my red goggles and tied a blindfold around my head. "Comm’on Sissy. Let's go for a mystery flight before we meet your new partner!" With a hyper laugh that scared me more than a little, he led me to his enlarged Pulse Board.
<Waiting for the gal: Creep
Today was the day. I felt strangely detached from my fellow trackers and mildly nervous. I knew that She- no, 'cat', was going to love me -who wouldn't- but what if situations were flying wildly around my mind. I did my best to ignore them while focussing on the well wishing and goodbyes of my fellow stealth’s. Gold swirl was almost crying, both with happiness of me getting a new handler and a job, and the sadness of parting with a dear friend. The twins were pestering me on what I thought my handler would be like, demanding explosions "To remember the good days" and generally larking about.
Nex was bustling around the lab, rummaging through cupboards, trying to tidy up a bit, and muttering to herself in a language I couldn't understand. She looked impatient. "When will they get here? When? They are supposed to be here now... Maybe they are not coming, maybe it's just a stupid trick..." was heard when Nex finally switched to English. It was enough to worry me and my friends but they all tried to comfort me.
"Don't worry!" Smiled the female twin. "Humans get lost, and are always late to important things". I turned to her, a small bit of faithlessness in my eyes. "But this 'cat' person who is going to be my handler, she's part Aye Aye" I fretted. Gold swirl gently rubbed against me in a show of support. "She's still part human though. And I don't think She is called 'cat' as in the feline. I think her name is Kat. With a 'K'." I smiled at Gold swirl, relieved at having one small mystery solved. Gold swirl had successfully taken my thoughts away from being forgotten.
A few seconds later I heard a whoop through the window. A pair of people, one in a blindfold with really odd ears, were on a pulse board, practically flying vertical and on a collision course to the floor. "Kieran, this is really freaky! I can't freakin' seeeeee!" The blindfolded one was saying, while Kieran, who I'd just recognised, laughed like a maniac.
"They are here!" Yelled Nex, running out the front as she heard a crash and a series of "Owww..." "I'm gonna kill you, Bro!" and "Oh, crap"s were spoken. It seemed my new handler would be meeting me very shortly.
>Totally Awesome: Kat
"Good landing!" smiled Kieran as the cocky b*s*a*d stood up. I looked up at where he was with confusion. "Any landing you can walk away from is a good landing!" He elaborated. I blinked slowly, then realised by blindfold had come off. "I can see again!" I laughed, then turned to the building we had landed next to. I gulped like a fish and trned to my brother. "Are-are we...?" I couldn't speak. I was nervous and exited and there was a slight pain where I had crashed into the floor at a high speed. "Yes, Sissy. Welcome to Nex's labs, where we shall finally meet your partener!" Kieran said, spreading his arms wide as if he were a ringmaster, introducing the show. "Shall we?" Wordlessly, I followed him into the most amazing place in the world.
Nex's laboratries were awesome. There is no other way to describe them. Concept sketches adorned the walls, pictures of old trackers and their handlers were tacked to noticeboards and equations filled blackboards. Bubbling test tubes and funny coloured smoke were in some of the rooms and the air smelt of gunpowder. I didn't even stop to wonder how Kieran knew his way round, though thinking back I remember him having a notepage with directions written on.
At the top of a curved staircase stood Nex, who greeted Kieran with a familiarity that I was indefinately jealous of. I was the tracker fangirl, not him! Then Nex turned to me. "Ready for your track- oh chicken smoothies! I've told you!" I must have looked confused and probably slightly insane as inside I was fangirling over the fact that OMGNEXACCTUALLYSPOKETOMEIAMBLESSED!!!11!, compleate with Caps abuse and bad exclimation marks."Why do you think we're here? You're getting a tracker, dumbass!" Kieran burst out. "Huh?" I still wasn't really thinking straight because we were in Nex's labs,we'd met Nex and now I was getting a tracker? God, I might have fainted with the awesomeness of it all if it wasn't that I was so hyper. Nex gave a laugh. "Come on then, Kat, let us go and see your new tracker." I nodded slowly, and followed her into another room, literally skipping with joy and 'Squeee-ing' inside.
We were lead into a large lab, and here Nex stopped. Inside were four trackers-stealths, I noted- one with gold swirls, one with blue splatters and one with an odd tribal marking. And finally, in the middle of the room, there was a tracker with a gun. "#21!" Nex called, and the gunned one moved forward. "Meet Kat, your new handler. Kat, meet #21, your new tracker!" The tracker looked at me, and trotted forward. " Um... Hi? " The tracker barked. Now, I'm a little slow on translating things, but I knew that. "Hi, #21." I said, my voice full of awe. "I love your gun. It looks amazing! And-and your markings and colours! -They just fit so well! And just wow! This is awesome. This is awesome!" I was babbling and looking like a maniac, with Kieran face-palming and Nex looking like she might explode from held in laughter.
"Is he really mine?" I asked, suddenly fearful that such an awesome creature would be just very cruel joke from my brother. Nex looked shocked. "Of course! That is, if you want him. And promise not to get him to missuse his gun." The tracker looked up at me expectantly. "Apparently you're the best qualified to deal with me, and we've got similar personalities, when you're not 'fangirling', as your brother put it. So, what weapons do you have?"
My brother and Nex had stopped talking as I nodded to what #21 was saying. "So you can talk to him, huh?" said Kieran. "Told you you were weird!" I gave a smirk. "You are just jealous because I can shoot better than you, get a cooler uniform, I now have a tracker and you are just a measly human who runs a cafe. I win. Now, umm, Nex, would it be possible to go to a target range and show of our weapons? You do have one, don't you?" Nex nodded, and motioned for us to follow her.
W I P: While this is the introduction, it also is the first chapter of the story. Sorry for any confusion, or if this was not what you meant.
