[ Nicholas ]
"You exist in time, but belong to eternity..."
▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬

Nicholas allowed himself to smile back at the girl,
sitting down and stretching his legs out in front of him,
reveling in the warm stone beneath his calloused hands,
and the sun above. She was quite cute as a wolf, Nick
had to admit. She was....what was the word? Delicate?

Yes that seemed right. "Come on, the rocks are nice
and warm."
Nick called down to the girl, leaning back
on his hands and tilting his face to bathe in sunlight. He
loved nature, he loved being a loner. But every now
and again, it was nice to revel in the company of others.

Especially charming she wolves.

MIKA

Tags: Alastair, Cybil, & Van

Mika turned as she heard footsteps, and gave Cybil a smile as she came out the door with Van. That smile slowly faded at the annoyance on the other girls face which she directed seemingly at Alastair - or maybe both of them. Mika's lips slipped into a frown at the look that was definitely directed at her was disappointment. Suddenly her wolf was back to pushing at her controls, and this made her put a hand to her head while the other remained on her wound. Taking a breath she straightened up shooting a look at Cybil. "Do we have a problem?" She asked politely before raising a brow at her friend. She seemed...different..since they agreed on her becoming Alpha..more confrontational. "We summoned the pack as there are members out in the woods..it was my idea. I figured you would be getting the coronation set up why your hadn't howled yet. Just trying to help..plus as Beta he is suppose to help you. You don't have to do it alone you know." She told her friend her gaze shifting to worried as searched Cybil's eyes. She didn't know if she saw strain on the other girls face or not. Her eyes drifted to Van who remained at her back..as if he was beta. If Cybil mated him though he would be Alpha male..which meant the pack still needed a beta. She comforted herself with that knowledge in knowing she did the right thing in bringing in Alastair. It just would take time..right. Suddenly a small dash of fear went through her gaze as a thought hit her..maybe he would leave just like Benjamin did if his wolf didn't find happiness here. What if Cybil broke under the weight of being Alpha..as she seemed so..stressed. Mika looked down at the ground her shoulders beginning to sag.

Alastair was relieved when he felt her nose touch him, her words sending a shrill of excitement through his blood. He pushed back gently with his own nose, his wolf eager to follow her. As she stepped back, there was a small whine of disappointment that lodged itself in his throat, irritating the human half of him. He wasn’t a whiner and he certainly didn’t need someone’s presence, but the more he thought on it the more he genuinely wanted her presence. He hoped the back would heed to his calling, that despite him not yet being known they would answer the way they would answer Cybil. His attention was torn from his thoughts as the wolf beside him glimmered and Mika’s human form appeared. He couldn’t help the smile that spread across his maw, but a playful frown took its place as her hands reached down to scratch his ear. The wolf in him hid in embarrassment but he shook it off, beginning to fight back his wolf but the process was interrupted as Cybil’s scent traced his nostrils. He looked up immediately his deep blue eyes locking on to the females human self. He suppressed the growl that formed in his throat as she spoke. He had tried to drop it down to a beta pitch, though it had been difficult. Why couldn’t she understand that he wasn’t trying to howl like an Alpha, it just happened to come naturally. Her beta blood flowed differently than his alpha blood and though he would respect her authority she had to understand he came from a different bloodline, dropping below alpha was far more difficult for him than taking alpha would be for her. His power touched Mika momentarily, expressing his aggravation to her in ways he didn’t want to in human or wolf form. He shifted from one paw to another uncertain if shifting into his human form would be beneficial right this moment, but certainly it would prevent him from lunging at the female before him, flanked by two male wolves. If he were to attack, she would have the benefit and despite having control of his wolf form, he was uncertain what this predicament would bring and so with a quick fight with his inner wolf, he stood before them in human form. “I was just trying to help, Cybil” he remarked following Mika’s words, and though his voice held the hint of aggravation and his general sarcastic tone, his eyes humbled before her, attempting to sedate the tension that ran between them, though he couldn’t bring the rest of his actions to join. As he saw Mika’s eyes shift and felt the worry that drifted from her, he moved closer, allowing his arm to graze hers and with a sudden spark, he wrapped his fingers in hers, reminding her that she herself was not alone. He turned towards Cybil with a new sense of strength, stemming from the alpha blood “I came here of my own accord, and despite my displeasure at my place in the pack, I am here to help. I was not trying to undermine you, simply attempting to help you but if you would rather me step back and do nothing then I will. I don’t have to help you, but I am alpha blood and I can help. I am willing to help, but you also have to understand that I was not raised as Beta. I am doing my best and I'm not leaving.” he remarked, his voice firm, commanding. He was aware that his words were pushing his alpha side but he needed her to listen, to understand his side as well. He would never be fond of the position, but if she would allow him the chance to prove his worth before she pushed his buttons, he could possibly be content where he was and surely he would stay no matter his discomfort, it was clear the pack needed him and despite his lack of interest, running with Mika had proven that he himself needed the pack, or at least the companionship. He turned his head to the side slightly, gripping Mika’s hand harder, though not enough to harm her. Would Cybil listen?

▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬
[ Cybil ]
"On the whole, human beings want to be good,
but not too good, and not quite all the time..."

▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬

Cybil sighed, a mere breath shuddering across her lips
as she looked between the two wolves, "We will discuss
your role as Beta in detail later. I know you are of alpha
blood, but you are beta here. You will have to adjust
fast and keep up with the pack law if you are to help
us in any way."
Her tone was calm, the wolf within
her reigning in any more aggravation she might have.

She'd pull Alistair aside, alone, later. They would need
time to work out their differences, but the first thing she'd
request is that he stop bringing up his alpha blood line.
It was not shameful for an alpha to come from betas, but
it didn't help if the beta had to bring up pure lingeage every
time she was around. Trying to or not, his presence undermined
her rank, and it worried the she wolf greatly. She'd need
the packs respect to lead, and she could not have that if her
Beta doubted her abilities. Still. Everyone deserved a chance, and
Cybil was not a cruel person.

In a more hushed tone, the girl looked over to her cousin, eyes
pleading for assistance. Amos would always be there to support
her, that much she could count on. True to his rank, Amos nodded,
flashing a brilliant smile as he stepped down, looping his lanky arms
over Mika and Alistair's shoulders, and poking his head between the
two, "Well I for one am excited about this coronation. My beautiful
cousin an alpha. Mom and Dad would be so proud." As he spoke, he
let his power escape, wrapping the two wolves in comforting
warmth. Even two alpha bloods couldn't resist relaxing to an Omega's
touch, and Amos used every bit of his power now to lighten the mood,
and bring the situation to a peaceful close that would allow Cybil to
be coronoated with no questions of her worth. The pack couldn't
afford tensions at this kind of time, and it was Amos's job to make
sure that any unease was settled.

Mika pulled her gaze up as a flash of light let her know Alastair had shifted as the others had been in human form. She had felt his annoyance through his power which she has assumed he directed at her only. Except she didn't know how to help..she wasn't a true omega. She had no calming power like Amos did who was there, and remembering the last time he helped it worried her. She could still feel his finger under her chin. She let her gaze drop back to the ground pushing her wolf away when it growled at her to do something. It was not her place or rank..her wolf needed to learn this. Almost like Alastair was trying to do with his wolf. She felt something brush her arm, and turned her head in surprise to see Alastair. He then entwined their fingers, and his attention on Cybil began to speak. A small smile came to her lips at his words, and her gaze shifted to Cybil to search her expression. At least until he mentioned he wouldn't leave..he wouldn't leave..it replayed in her head like a broken record. She didn't care that the relief she was now feeling rushing over her showed on her face bright as day. Her hand got squeezed a little harder, and without even thinking on it she laid her head on his shoulder. Cybil knew she had taken Benji leaving a bit hard so..new her friend would be a bit surprised at this. They could talk later though when she was officially Alpha, Alastair Beta, and her rank as Omega was settled. Except Cybil's words had her lifting her head again to look at her friend. Her words were respectful so Mika just gave her a smile until..she used Amos on them. Mika couldn't resist the calming sensation that came from her, but it didn't stop her words. "Using an omega on your pack like this is unbecoming of an Alpha Cybil. I expected better.." She turned to give Amos a look before flashing him a smile. "Why do you have to be so tall..you make me feel incredibly small you know that?" Mika blinked at herself..where had that come from. She moved away from Amos, Alastair, and Cybil giving them all a look before heading into the cabin. "I'm going to go remove all fragile stuff from the entire house..until we all settle in better." Her voice called back to them.

"Yeah, no worries." Kieran replied to her request for backup. "I'll keep an eye out for bears." He laughed, letting her lead the way as he followed as silently as he could. He picked up his paws almost comically in an attempt to avoid stepping on small twigs that might snap suddenly and compromise her hunt. He watched as her ears pricked, and, after a moment of careful listening, his ears caught the awkward broken rhythm of a limping creature. The scent of blood reached his nose, mingled with the hare's scent but almost overpowering it. Some instinct within him begged him to go for it, to seize the creature within his jaws and extinguish its life force. However, it was the getting it into his jaws part that he often had issues with, and, because of this, he hung back, allowing Elspeth to lead the hunt. As the hare came into view, he hung back, dropping his weight into a crouch. He remained as still and silent as he could until she launched herself forward, muscles rippling below her pelt as she surged after the injured creature.
              It didn't stand a chance.
Her rolling laugh reached his ears as it avoided her initial launch, and he tilted his head quizzically. This was like some odd game to her, it seemed. As the pair shot out into the underbrush, he stood, pushing himself forward to follow in their general direction at a rolling lope, not wanting to get in the way but not wanting to lose them either. A sickening crunch, not too far away but faint nonetheless, resounded through the forest, and so Kieran skidded to a halt, wincing lightly. Soon enough, her scent crossed his nose, and a shadow-like form came into view. He stepped forward, sitting opposite her as she dropped her catch, pride seeming to radiate from her body. "
Good catch." He said with a swift nod, stepping forward as she offered him the prey. Just before he could lower his head to the meal, a melodic howl drifted through the air, and his fur bristled as he raised his head, ears pinning to his skull. "Oh no..." He spat sarcastically, "We're going to be late to our pack meeting!" Meeting her gaze before chuckling softly, he dipped his head to the meal with a "Thanks". The still-warm meat filled his stomach quickly, and soon enough he sat back, giving her the space to tuck into her well deserved meal.

▅▅▅▅▅▅▅▅▅▅▅▅▅▅▅▅▅▅▅▅▅▅▅▅▅▅▅▅▅▅▅▅▅▅▅▅▅▅▅

The last drop of blood had been cleaned from her muzzle, as had the last bit of hare meat been eaten, nothing but a pile of bleached bones in the creature’s place. It had, in fact, been something like a grade A meal, a satisfied sigh slipping past her lips as she reflected upon this. The delectable flavors, the savory meat, even crunching some of the bones just for fun. Much better than she would’ve expected a raw meal to be. Of course, bear in mind that could very well be the wolf talking... While she took the time to let the food settle, placidly seated on her haunches and feeling a yawn rising, her mind flashed back to the loner from earlier, the one that she technically owed her meal, and life, to… Time away from him had enabled her to get her feelings under control, but just thinking about all that had happened made a scowl tug at her features, disgust, anger, and all those other emotions threatening to roil in her stomach once more. On one hand, she did owe him this delicious meal and her life, but on the other, he'd dared to violate her personal space... Needless to say, she was conflicted on how to feel about him. She still wasn’t sure how her pack would react to this, assuming they might find out… And with that, a worse thought crossed her mind, making her heart drop and stomach turn... How would her mother react to this, should the woman call and ask? Matrona romping around in the woods with a loner, then getting licked on the muzzle by him? The girl groaned, acknowledging that it was only the first day and she already had secrets to keep. Hopefully she wouldn’t acquire too many of those… and hopefully she’d never see him again. If he just kept his distance, perhaps she'd eventually be able to forget the whole thing, like it never happened...

Just then, a sound rose into the air, one that she instantly recognized and lifted her head to, ears perking.

It was a howl. Not just any howl, but a strong and alluring howl, one that sent shivers down her spine and silenced every thought in her mind, demanding her full attention. The instinctual knowledge of a wolf told her it was a leader’s howl.. Maybe not necessarily the Alpha, but something almost just as powerful… the Beta, then? It was honestly hard to tell... She also knew that it was a summoning howl, for every muscle in her body, despite being fatigued from her run and hunt, ached to move closer to the sound. It was a strange feeling for the ex heiress, to feel so compelled to follow the commands of someone else… She couldn’t help but wonder if she’d have the same feeling in her human form, or if it was because of her wolf that she felt so drawn to the howl. Regardless, she instantly got back on her feet, taking a moment to shake out her fur before setting off in the cabin’s direction, knowing that’s where it came from. She put all her conflicted thoughts and emotions aside, instantly deeming this more important.

She wasn’t as fast as she usually was, fatigue being on of the reasons, and her lack of motivation to greet the pack in her current state being the other. She already hadn’t wanted to socialize much for the rest of the night… let alone with the scent of a loner now clinging to her pelt. Hopefully if she shifted, it would be less noticeable, or maybe they’d be so preoccupied with whatever was going on that no one would care to ask. Whatever happened though, she knew she couldn't just avoid it. The pull of the summons was too strong, and she was determined to not miss another pack meeting, lest she risk becoming more naive... If that was even possible.

At her slower pace, it took her longer to return than it had to run away, but she finally found herself in view of the cabins, their warm glow poking through the trees, albeit fainter now that the sun was coming up. (Had she really been out that long?) Her ears swiveled forward to the sound of voices, suggesting the others were gathered outside, likely waiting for everyone else to arrive. She only caught snippets of what was being said, having arrived late into their conversation, but she heard them say something about a... coronation? She perked a brow, finding the term curious, then tipped her head back, squinting at the rising sun that was now blinking through the canopy. Was now really the best time for such a thing, since it was so early and it seemed a majority of the pack wasn't even ready? Oh well. Shrugging it off, she transformed back into herself with a flash of light, once more becoming a thin girl dressed in formal garb, though her hair seemed a bit messier from the previous events. As she set to work straightening it, picking out a stray leaf here and there, she frowned upon discovering the loner’s scent was still just as prominent, even as a human. Deep breaths. Just stay calm. I’m sure it won’t concern them too much. Even if they ask, just say you ran into a loner while out. No need to go into elaborate.

With that, she took that deep breath, then stepped into the clearing, hands folded behind her back and face as stoic as ever, now visible to all gathered. She took a brief moment to scan them, searching for clues to tell her what had been discussed, who was present, what the mood was, etc. It seemed almost everyone there was of a much higher power level, suggesting they were all high ranks. An eerie calmness was also hanging in the air, one that almost felt unnatural, but she could tell it was masking hints of tension, this only confirmed by the expressions and postures of those present. Awkward… Clearing her throat and standing stiffly, she calmly stated/asked, “I heard the summoning?”

[ Cybil ]
"On the whole, human beings want to be good,
but not too good, and not quite all the time..."

▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬

Cybil turned to Matrona, doing her best to mask
the sting in her eyes from Mika's words. It had been
an unfair statement. As both were clearly tense
and it was Amos's job to settle tensions by using
his powers, but it still hurt none the less. This was
supposed to be a gathering to bond the pack, and
instead it was seeming like no one wanted her to
be alpha. Losing Benji had been rough on her friend,
but Cybil hadn't thought that Mika would verbally cut
her down because of it. She'd have to handle it later.

Swallowing the growing lump in her throat Cybil
nodded, forcing a smile as she greeted Matrona,
"Yes. There is news to share with the pack.
Benji and Violet have left us, we don't know why.
According to pack law, I'm supposed to step up
to the role of alpha. Alistair..."
The girl paused
to motion to the man, "has been brought in and
has agreed to step up to the role of beta. Please,
make yourself comfortable until the others have
arrived."
As Cybil spoke she felt herself slipping
back into the comfortable and warm mannerisms
that she was accustomed too. But there was still
a shimmer of pain and worry in her eyes.

Thankfully, Amos noticed, and nodded, releasing
Alistair- Mika had already made an escape- and
wandered up to his cousins side, resting a steady
hand on her shoulder. He had never abused his powers,
and Mika's comment had hurt him a bit too. It seemed
the she-wolf didn't care for omegas.

The ebony she-wolf smiled as he praised her, her tail swaying slightly “Well thank you, all in a days work” she chuckled, her tongue rasping across her maw. She turned her head towards the forest, catching the sound of bird singing in the trees, once again settled as the wolves held themselves. However, their noise became silent as a howl rippled through the air, melodic and demanding all at once. She was momentarily confused, but the howl did not tug at her as she was sure it did for the wolves of the reservation. Her hackles raised in displeasure as she turned to face where the sound had come from. However, Kieran’s voice tore her from her own thoughts. She couldn’t help the hearty laugh that escaped her maw as his voice dripped in sarcasm. “Better get a move on, Kieran” she remarked with a soft chuckle, his name rolling from her lips with a sweet delicacy. She watched as he tucked into the rabbit, his sides heaving as he ate. Her paws shifted, rolling the dirt beneath them, hunger gripping at her belly again but she was not selfish and he was her companion for the moment. He teeth flashed as he tore the flesh and the smell of blood caressed her nostrils. She flicked her ears forward, listening for the sound of wolves, watching her companions back as he ate. When he at last retreated from the meal, she felt her mouth water with the thought of prey. As she, herself tucked into the meal she couldn’t help the ripple of delight that coursed through her body, causing her fur to stand on end. She ate until the prey was gone and relief had settled in her famished stomach and with a quick movement she was on her paws and facing the wolf beside her “Come on, let’s explore. If they called a meeting, all the wolves should be rejoining at the main building, leaving the territory open” she remarked, mischief glimmering in her icy eyes. She nudged him before leaping forward, her paws in steady rhythm with her beating heart. She felt her lungs expand as they took in air, the coolness of the breeze rushing through her pelt. She was relieved, almost delighted in a sense, when the forest scents deepened. However, her ears flickered back, listening for the sound of pawsteps, hoping her companion had followed and searching for a glimpse of his pelt mingled among the shadows at her side.

Alastair shifted with discomfort as she spoke. How was he supposed to help when he had no clue what to do as Beta? He was doing all he could. He deep blue eyes gazed at her, refusing to look away, though normally it would be taken as a challenge, he was analyzing the alpha before him. She certainly matched his power and it wasn’t that he didn’t believe she could be a good alpha, it was more that he was unsure he could be a beta but he was willing to try. When he felt the arm wrap around his shoulder, he immediately bit back a growl but the omega’s power drowned out the tension in his body, relaxing his body. He turned to Mika as she spoke and smiled, having noticed the way his words and his hand entwined with hers relaxed her body. He watched as she flitted off, Amos’s arm dropping to his side. He turned towards the Omega and nodded briefly, blue eyes sparkling with a sort of thanks for the Omega’s presence. He shifted slightly as Amos released him and noticed the slight sting of pain in Cybil’s eyes. If his presence had brought it, he surely hadn’t meant too. No matter his displeasure for his rank, he never intended to hurt someone else. He stepped forward as a female emerged from the trees and paused, turning to face her. As Cybil spoke, he reached out with his power, not to threaten but to remind her that she had help. He waved to the new comer as she spoke his name, waving at her with a sly smile as he always did. His black hair fell carefully around his shoulders as he turned away, facing Cybil. At first, he almost asked Amos to leave, but aware of the tension that constantly rippled between them, he decided it better he leave him where he was. “Cybil, I don’t mean to undermine you. I don’t think you are less because you are of Beta blood. It is not you. It is simply my own alpha that struggles to settle. I will do the best to be a decent beta but the fire in my veins is not always easy to control.” He remarked, running a hand through his hair cautiously. “However, you have an alpha here. I can help if you just let me but you have to let me without feeling like I am trying to take over. I’m not. I called the pack to help you, not to take your place.” He remarked and again he allowed his power to mingle with her own “We have the same power, but only one of us was raised an alpha and only one of us a beta, perhaps we can help each other” he remarked, his inner wolf snarling at him for the calm he tried to make between them. He wanted to be happy in the pack, especially if he was to take a mate, but would he be was a totally different question. The first step, he supposed, was making nice with the current alpha. “I will stand at your side as beta at your coronation, and after I will teach as Alpha if you will teach me as beta?” he asked, blinking at her. He voice was deep, velvety as he spoke, his eyes calm despite his wolf struggling inside him. He turned to Amos and smiled softly, again nodding in respect towards the Omega.

The sound of birdsong danced through Faeryn’s ears as she turned towards Nick who summoned her. She paused for a second, admiring him as he leaned back on his hands, legs outstretched before him. He was handsome, and although she had noted that before, his eyes and stare had taken her back. She leapt gracefully across the stream landing with a soft thud on the other side and trotted towards the stones. The sun shone brilliantly through the trees, leaving little shadow where the rocks stood. She felt her muscles coil before she sprung up to his side, landing with a softness next to him. Her wolf self fell to her haunches and turned her muzzle towards the sky, admiring the blue of the day as the sun began to dip. She turned her muzzle towards Nick, her eyes blazing with enjoyment as she shifted. Her human form sat cross legged on the rocks, her shirt sleeve dipping to reveal the tattoos that marked her left shoulder and collar bone. Her purple hair hung loosely to her side and her pale green gaze glimmered with comfort. Warmth radiated from the rocks, relaxing her muscles. “I take it you come here often?” she asked softy, a smile on her face as she leaned back, allowing the warmth to cascade across her body.

pack. Thank you for communicating with me, and
I'd be honored to take you up on your offer of mentor
ship."
The girl took a moment to glance at Amos,
who grinned and stepped away, turning his eyes to
the beta and nodding in respect. He was a good wolf,
and both cousins could appriciate his open mind.

As Cybil stepped forward, she reached out a dainty
hand to Alistair, letting her own power slip out and dance
with his. Typically pack coronations happened all at once,
but it wasn't uncommon for the Beta and Alpha to share
power before hand, as a settling of rank.

Silken hair fell across the girls forehead as she looked up
at Alistair, her cousin's playful smirk greeting her own
features, "I also notice you've taken an interest in
Mika. If you ever need help with courting, my door is
open for advice."
The comment was spoken in a soft
tone, the comment only loud enough to be heard between
the two of them.
