How To Guide:
Step 1: Registration
To begin, you will need to register, this is a simple task and everyone is very welcome to join the community.
To register, you just need to post the following simple form to the main thread. It's basically introducing yourself to the community.
Form:
- Code: Select all
Username:
Barn Name & Link:
Everyone is automatically accepted to the sim, and your barn will be added to the registry as soon as possible. If you do not see your barn name/link on the registry post within a week or so, please feel free to pm me or a mod to add it to the list.
Along with registering, you might want to set up your bank account. Each player is responsible for taking care of their account and managing their own income and expenses. Each player starts with 20,000e to begin the game. Money is used to purchase horses, upgrades, tack, farrier services, vet treatments, and many other things in the SIM.
Keeping an accurate account of your money is a very important necessity to the game.
Step 2: Starting Out
Once you have registered, you can begin to look for your first horse. There are a few ways to do this.
- Purchasing an Import (Custom)
- Breeding a pair of horses with won, given, or purchased slots
- Adopting through the SIM
- Purchasing from a player through the market or auction
- Rehoming from a player
- Winning Competitons or being lucky in Discovery
You will be able to get a Walker most easily from adopting directly from the SIM artists. Adopting competitons can range from personality develompent, impression comps, to simple raffles and naming comps.
Sometimes artists will offer free imports as we will call them in the SIM. Imports are the SIM's version of customs. These are usually short time offers and availability will not usually last long.
There are a few things to know after you get your first horse. All horses that are up for adoption from the artists or are created by imports will be 4 years of age, unless they are bred and put up for adoption, or there is an event going on that involves younger horses or foals.
Horses must be trained in order to age up, recieve bonuses for competions, and to have foals (for mares).
Step 3: Competitons & Discovery
Once you have your first horse(s) you will want to participate in competitons right away to make money. To do this, however, you will be required to purchase items from the store, as well as vaccinate and test your horse.
To compete, a horse must be coggins tested, as well as vaccinated for a few common equine diseases including; Tetanus, West Nile Virus, Rabies, and Strangles.
Vet visits are critical. Vaccines and Coggins must be taken care of one inital time as a yearling before your horses can be entered in halter class or regular shows, and again every 4 training sessions.
Horses can randomly catch illnesses in the SIM. These will be rolled for every training session.
Horses must also be given a discipline. Each horse may only focus in one discipline, but will always be able to show in halter class on the side.
Once a discipline is chosen, owners will be required to obtain the correct equipment for their horse ro be able to compete.
The better the tack, the more skill points they give your horse, that betters the chance your horse has in placing in competitons, so this is where managment of money plays its part.
Training also helps a horse preform better in competions. Each horse can be trained once a week they will age 1 year and earn experience points(XP) as well as skill points. There is a small chance when training that the horse will not cooperate and will not earn XP or skill, sometimes even deducting a point or two. This is all to keep the realism in the SIM.
Horses can be trained the same day they are adopted/imported, or two weeks after they are "born" if it is a bred horse.
Horses can compete in halter class as a yearling or older. For the rest of competitons, they must be 4 years old or older.
Each owner can only enter 1 horse in halter class, and 2 horses in regular comps.
In discovery, horses can be any age, this is a way to make a bit of quick cash or find some items and freebies. It is free to enter, and you are guaranteed to win something.
Each owner may only enter 2 horses in discovery at one time.
Horses will recieve a 2 week discovery cooldown after prizes have been given out.
Step 4: Breeding
Breeding horses is a simple task, only male/female pairs are aloud. While you can pull straws and eggs from your stallions and mares respectively. Once this happens, you can use a surrogate mare and get a foal.
Egg + Surrogate + Stallion = foal
Egg + Surrogate + Straw = foal
Mare + Stallion = foal
Mare + Straw = foal
Step 5: Event Participation
Events are a major part of the day-to-day of the SIM, there will usually always some type of event going on.
Here is a rough schedule of events:
It looks pretty jam packed right now, but some events might be taken out or changed/switched around as we go through our first year of events.
