She had watched the younger wolf move away a few steps so that she would see both herself and Ferrell, but the red and cream she-wolf said nothing on this, her expression unreadable. Kathrine had watched as the young wolf observed Ferrell and she looked between the two to be sure Ferrell didn't do anything rash. The young wolf was obviously very curious and seemed to have not interacted with loners like them before so she was just learning. This became very apparent when she'd asked about what happened to Ferrell's missing leg. Now, having had a past that she herself did not speak of, Kathrine knew better than to ask her about what happened as it was obvious to her that it was a very sensitive subject. Her expression didn't even need to change for Kathrine to know, having observed the actions and reactions of many others in her times of traveling all these years; it could be said that she'd learned how to read people in that way. She'd not been surprised by Ferrell's answer in any way, guessing that she was probably lying and was playing it off as to not show her feelings. After seeing the expression on the young wolf's face, Ferrell had laughed and Kathrine added solemnly, "It is better not to ask." Suddenly, a sound like a demon echoed through the trees and the birds above them n the branches suddenly went silent as they flew quickly away. Immediately, Kathrine's ears shot up and her muscles tensed, her body moving once again in a defensive manner as her icy sapphire eyes scanned the brush around them. She felt eyes on her pelt and it made her skin prickle as her hackles rose, her tail swaying back and forth in anxiousness.
A scent that too very familiar to her entered her senses and though she could not place a name or face to it, she knew it was dangerous. The she-wolf looked to the young wolf again and began to speak, "Young one-" Just as she did, he stepped from the bushes just behind the youngest loner and she had her back turned to him entirely, "Young one, behind us, now." The command had not been intentional for Kathrine herself was surprised by the firmness of it in her tone. Though this expression did not shoe on her face, her eyes did narrow and she stepped in between the large male and the young female to shield her from him. What am I doing..? This question swelled her mind as the storm of thoughts swirled in her mind like a hurricane, I am no leader of her. Why am I reacting like I am? She didn't answer herself as she locked gazes with the large, black wolf. As if recalling from a distant past, the hidden scars that ran down over her right eye grew irritated, as if it burned. She did not know why. Had he been the one that gave them to her? Kathrine did not recall; she had no way of truly remembering as all those horrible memories all melted together. She glanced over to see Ferrell beginning to fall to submission from the dominance and she gave her a soft look as if to say, Allow me to handle this, please.
And as she turned her gaze back to lock with his, she lifted her stance to its height and though it did not nearly reach his own, she still stood her ground, her head high, ears up, and her tail still as it hung softly in the air. Kathrine did nothing to stop Ferrell's remark though afterward she hissed softly, "Ferrell, did is not helping anyone." She watched the black wolf intently to see what he would do. She readied herself for anything he threw at her, whether it back words or claws. After all, she was the only here that could stand firmly against his dominance and so she suddenly felt a bubbling rush of a need to protect those who could not.
