How did you bond?: Envy of the mind, envy of the body, envy of the soul. Envy is a widespread emotion, whether it is born from circumstances, selfishness, or chance, envy derives from many sources. This is the tale of how I came to know of the embodiment of Envy.

It's not a terribly extensive story, but I do hope it doesn't run on too long for you. We all have that day -- if you do not know it yet, some day you will -- the sort of day where things can only go wrong, where we're sure it can't be our own fault, a day we blame the world for our problems and can only wish things revolved around us. I had that day, I hated everyone and everything, blamed others for not giving me what I selfishly desired. I envied the world for having what I could only falsely believe to be better than my own situation in every way.

Rich, poor, young, old. I thought, "They got it so good, huh." I believed, "Everyone's happier than I am right now." I wished, "They should all stop for a second and put themselves in my shoes." That is when they came to me, they as in the entity, not as the group.

"Desire." Is all they said. The unseen voice spoke allowed the greatest fault of humanity. But even when met with the unknown, my envy overwrote my fear, and I responded with self-pity rather than back down.

"That's right! I desire a chance to be noticed, to be seen or heard! I wish others knew how I felt, bu they're all too good for that!" I lashed out at the mysterious voice. I didn't care what I said, or if I'd gone crazy because I was in pain.

"Your desire, may I take it." I saw an image now, not through my eyes but in my mind. Sharp eyes that glowed green and what looked to be a serpent of bones. I didn't understand it's question, so I continued with my personal attack.

"That doesn't make any sense! Are you making fun of me, just like everyone else secretly is? Do you think you're that much smarter than me that I won't understand how much I disgust you?! You're so damn lucky, aren't you!"

I could see it more clearly now. A dark form extended from the bone and wings of green webbing were spread wide. "Your desire, may I take it." Something snapped inside me then, not in a bad way, but suddenly everything seemed so calm as if all my concerns vanished without a trace. It was then I realized the image I only believed to be in my head was standing there, right across from me. They simply stared at me, unblinking.

"What...?" Was all I could muster. This is how we first met, many more things happened from there, and many minor details have been forgotten, but all I need to remember is this: That may have been the worst day of my entire life, had I not acquired a new companion in the process.

What had I been thinking?! Hiking up a mountain when the weather was this windy was obviously my worst idea yet. My shoes barely held traction on steep slopes. My backpack was beginning to feel heavy and thus making me walk slower. However, if i walked any slower than I already was I wouldn't be able to make it to the campgrounds on top of the mountain and turning back now would definitely leave me having to navigate the forest in the dark.
Little did I know curious, amused white eyes lay upon me, watching silently from a distance. I suppose I was far to concentrated on looking upon the ground that I didn't notice the larger winged creatures slow approach towards me. I was bound to slip at some point and when I overstepped in the slightest, I felt the traction in my shoe give. I was caught mid-yell when the dragon prevented the harsh plummet down the slope, letting me lean heavily upon his neck. "Um...thanks?" I said, though the dragon purposefully kept his gaze away from mine. I looked over the bright red markings of the dragon but then the dragon had huffed in annoyance, so I got back to climbing the slope. But this time, I was very aware of the dragons close proximity.

I suppose my determination to keep going up the mountain was what enticed the dragon to keep following. That and the creature was just amused by a mere human trying to hike in these conditions.

How did you bond?: I was trick-or-treating when I saw a very ornate dragon statue. It was black with a white face and markings. It's eyes were orange as were it's horns and insides of it's wings. It had a freaky amount of realism to it, and for that reason I was drawn to it the instant I laid eyes on it. I drew closer to it, the life-likeness of it was throwing me off a bit and I kept wondering if it was real. I don't know why but I started speaking softly to it, mumming more like. Soon I was standing right in front of it. The air was strangely warm around it and I could have sworn I saw steam coming out of it's nostrils. Taking a deep breath, I reached out and touched it's muzzle. It suddenly reacted and moved it's head closer to me. I stumbled backwards in fright. The statue was alive!? My eyes were wide as I stared at it, but the dragon wasn't being aggressive... it had actually liked my touch and wanted more of it. It's head dipped down towards my hand and it placed it's head under it. I stared for a moment before smiling as I stroked her head. Thus, that was how the beginning of a wondrous relationship started.

How did you bond?:

Visiting the Gardens late one night, the thief slipped in seemingly undetected by any guards. However, she would soon be in for a surprise when glowing blue eyes greeted her in the shadows. The thief backed up, soon enough pinned against a wall by the dragon's massive head. She was assured that her end was near, and so she closed her eyes, finding it fitting that she would meet her end in the shadows that she spent much of her life in. However, the gods had a different fate in mind, as the dragon shoved it's head against the thief's body happily and picked her up, letting out a pretty happy roar. The thief clinged to her newfound companion's neck, finding that she would not be able to shake her off, nor did she have a want to. This shadowy, night-themed dragon would be the perfect companion for a thief-in-the-night.

One day while hiking, I stopped to admire the turning colors of the trees and saw an odd shaped black rock. As I neared, I notice golden lines running across its surface. I use my hand and followed them to what looked like a head. It was then when I noticed a rising and falling of the rock in a pattern of breathing. I stepped back as the head rose up, it's eyes watching me carefully. It did not step away. Because of my previous experience with my last dragon I was not as afraid as I could have been and met its green gaze. Surprised by my lack of fear it took a step back, lowering its head. I took a confident step forward, one of my hands out. It squealed and jumped back. I crouched, smiled calmly. It's eyes betrayed its confused interest and I placed one of my hands on its forehead. It closed it's eyes and leaned into my hand.

How did you bond?: My friend had been telling me all about this dragon her team had captured. He was injured and no one was able to even get close to him. I had already bonded with one dragon, so I had a bit of experience under my belt, but I was far from being a 'dragon whisperer'. I agreed to help though and when I saw the state the dragon was in my heart broke. He looked so battered and worn and the look in his eyes was that of a kind soul that was simply in pain and trying to protect itself. I took a deep breath and entered the cage speaking softly to him. "Hey, there. It's okay. I'm not going to hurt. I want to help you. You're such a handsome dragon." I said slowing moving towards him. He growled lowly and his eyes narrowed. "Why would I trust a human like you?" He snapped. "All humans have ever brought me was pain!" he exclaimed as he rose suddenly to his feet. I gasped and fell backwards in surprise. He was huge! "I'm sorry... but... please, just let me show you that there is a human who won't hurt you. I promise. And if I don't meet your expectations then you can kill me." I said determinedly. The dragon stared at me for a moment before nodding slowly as he laid back down. "Fine. but you make one wrong move and you're dead." He concluded with a huff. And thus was how our bond was formed.
