Masika's Home - Five Rooms

Masika wrote:"Being forced to stay forever in the Nile River, I realized that I had to adapt to my new home. I'm able to easily come back on a daily basis, and since it's a quiet part of the long river, I find myself being able to relax when the day ends."

"My home resides in a man made cave located somewhere deep in the Nile River. It's impossible for others to find my home's entrance, besides for me and my crocodiles, of course. Those who dare try to find my cave for whatever reason are often met with an unfortunate death. It's mainly due to how deep the part of the river I live in, as it's impossible for a mere land based mortal to dive down deep enough to reach it. You, dear traveler, are quite lucky to have found such a trinket that allows you to survive these depths. I'm truthfully glad that you wanted to meet me; it's honestly a bit embarrassing as well though. I don't view myself as some type of important person; I have a job just like most people. The only difference is that I don't get paid for my duties..."

He cleared his throat awkwardly before continuing on with his speech.
Masika wrote:"My house is broken up into five major parts. Just like many others, I have a bedroom, a living room, a dressing room, a storage room, and a dining hall. It's nothing fancy though, so please don't be surprised when you see how dull it looks."

He chuckled, jokingly. You feel yourself smiling a bit too.
Masika wrote:"Whichever one you're more interested in seeing, just let me know. I'll be more than happy to tell you about my beloved home."

This is where you're allowed to roam around freely. You can go ahead and explore the five rooms in order, or you can go off and see whichever room interests you more. Feel free to jump to the items in the others section whenever you feel like it. There's honestly no order to this section of the form now. I hope you have a fun and exciting time learning more about Masika through searching his home!

Masika's Home - Sleeping Quarters

Postby Yugi » Sat Sep 10, 2016 10:46 am

Masika wrote:"My sleeping quarters was one of the first rooms that I got down to creating. I wanted to make a room that was large enough and quiet enough that allows me to peacefully rest. Though, some sounds from the flowing river still can be heard in this room.

The only main furniture that I have in this room is a hand made bed. I found that it's the only piece of furniture I truly need, at least in this room. It makes everything feel less cluttered, honestly. I do sometimes have hand made rugs resting on the bottom, although they do break down quite easily since they're always submerged under water. The rugs that I get are often given to me as gifts from those who depend on my services; since I have no need for money, I often keep them for as long as I can. I do feel terrible that I can't keep them in perfect condition, but what am I to do?"

He let out a soft chuckle. You did find it pretty bizarre that he would be gifted rugs like that though, as he doesn't have any feet to use on the rug. Perhaps he misses his normal form? The more you thought about it, you realized you would miss your previous form as well if you were forced to undergo a radical transformation caused by a curse...

Before you realized it, you were actually lost in your thoughts. He called you over to his crudely made bed suddenly, snapping you out of over thinking the entire thing.
Image
Masika wrote:"Sorry for the bed's appearance, aha! It's looked the same for quite a few years now since I'm too lazy to try to find something new to use. The pillows are new though; I recently got them a few days ago from a kind traveler who wanted to pay me back for my services."

Upon closer inspection, you see that the bed was hand woven from straw and covered fairly nicely with plush pillows. While it didn't look at all like a comfortable place to sleep on at all, you continued to listen to Masika speak.
Image
Masika wrote:"When I grew up as a child, I was forced to sleep and live on the floor. Everything that I did was done on the ground, including eating, playing, reading, etc. My parents were... good people, even though they have questionable morals, ideas, and whatnot. They did their best to provide for us, even if that meant we didn't live exactly in the lap of luxury. But still, even if we did have food and water to help us continue on with life, I would have very much enjoyed having a bed to sleep in for my own.

I am happy to be able to have a bed that I can easily call mine; I made it myself, after all. A merchant who had nothing better to do wanted to see if she could teach someone how to weave baskets. I had already knew a little bit about the whole thing as my mother wove baskets for a living, and she would often encourage us to do it too."

You stared at the man speak, listening carefully to each and every one of his words. Why did he use the word "us" in that sentence...? Perhaps he had others living with him? Siblings maybe? Or did he meant his father? You continued to listen to his words thoroughly, not wanting to miss a single beat.
Image
Masika wrote:"But, of course, being rusty with the whole thing, I allowed her to teach me. I was amazed at how well she sat under the hot sun during those few hours before I could allow her to board my boat. It was truly a feat she had pulled off, especially at how kind she was towards me. You see, I was forced to put boarding on hold due to threats of a severe sandstorm that was making its way through. I wouldn't want one of my passengers to experience being buffeted by the harsh, sand-filled winds as that goes completely against my duty's code of morality. Thankfully the sandstorm never hit that specific part of the Nile River, so once we heard news that it passed, I was able to take her to her destination.

With the newly refreshed skills still in my mind that day, I found myself going to here and deciding to craft myself a water proof bed.It's... alright, I suppose. I'm sure that, if I were to have kept at it, I would be proficient in making bed shaped baskets. It's comfier than just trying to keep afloat or sleeping on the hard, cold ground."

You asked Masika about the noises and events he experiences during his time trying to sleep. He gave a short laugh, as if he was suddenly remembering a few stories.
Image
Masika wrote:"You would be surprised that, even in here, I still hear things above."

You looked at him, somewhat surprised. Seeing how deep underground you both were, you wouldn't have thought that Masika would be able to hear things stirring around during the night time.
Image
Masika wrote:"Truly. It is a bit odd, isn't it? Either way, it's comforting, honestly. Unless it's that no good gang of thieves again; but at least with them, I can see what they're planning. It's always hilarious when they go around muttering how they would love to fry a fish as big as I. I've stopped them many times, protecting and guarding over those who I guide, so I'm not surprised that they're tired of me. Too bad they don't realize that opening their big mouths like that will always give away their devious plans that I can easily put a stop to. Although... I do wonder why they haven't just fully given up; I would think by now they would, since they're unable to make a single dime now with me around. I know that thieves will always exist; back in my time we had plenty, but it's always so annoying to have to take time out of my day to just punish them or scare them off in hopes of having a peaceful rest of the day at work.

Other than that, noises of the river flowing can be heard, as well as people walking around to come and visit the Nile. Both of those noises are soothing to me, and those noises definitely do help lull me to bed. I'm thankful for these noises too. Because of them, I can hear if another person in the nearby village has accidentally fallen into the river. I wished I could be near all of the villages nearby the river, but I'm still very happy at the lives that I've been able to save anyways.

That's all that I have for this room. Let's go explore another one, okay?"

Masika's Home - Dressing Room

Postby Yugi » Sat Sep 10, 2016 10:50 am

Masika wrote:"Pardon how messy my dressing room is; if I had known that there would be visitors arriving today, I would have cleaned it up quite a bit."

Masika chuckled, attempting to ease the mood and make things feel more casual.

Masika wrote:"But, as you can easily see with them tossed around the room, these are items that I usually wear during the day. I know it isn't much, but there's certainly enough accessories and cloths to go around for me to have a variety of outfits. I personally like to wear gold jewelry, mainly because they were gifts given to me from travelers who used my service. Go ahead; feel free to search around. Whatever you pick up or point to, I'm more than happy to give you the best explanation possible for that item. It's been a while, but I'm certain I can provide you with enough information about it."

You examined the room, looking for clothing that stood out to you the most. You didn't want to waste his time, so you wanted to choose a selection of items that looked important to him. After a little bit of searching around, you decided that the first question would be directed to what he is wearing currently. He wore gold and blue colored beads on his head and tail, decorated scarcely with golden sea shells. You took note of the other major golden accessory; a large, solid necklace studded with sapphires that glowed in the darkest depths of the waters was worn around his neck.
Image
Masika wrote:"Ah, this outfit is probably one of the most difficult ones to answer to. But, trust me, I'll still try; these items are relatively old. In fact, I had these items from the years I spend on land.

The blue and gold beads that I wear upon my head and tail are remnants of my childhood upbringing. I had quite a few pairs of it, as my mother loved to make accessories for her family, especially for me. I was honestly quite close to my mother for a little while as a child, often helping her around the house with duties and sitting by her side to learn her lessons she wanted to teach me; maybe that's the reason why she gifted me more things. I was notoriously clumsy as a child as well now that I think back to it, so I would break my beloved beads quite often. My sibling was a lot more careful in making sure to take great care to preserve her beads, so she ended up having less. My mother made the beads based off of our pelts as we looked fairly identical to each other except for one little color; my pelt has blue markings while my sibling had yellow. Growing up, she used these beads to help her further distinguish us from one another; we were pretty hectic children too, so with her only getting glimpses of us, she could easily tell us apart rather quickly. I'm not too sure why my past self decided to bring them along; perhaps it was the habit of putting them on before leaving the house that I unconsciously continued to wear them even when I decided to rebel against my parents.

The small accessories on the beads were done by me a couple of hundred of years ago. They are things that I found in the river or were gifted to me. The seashells were items that I found by sheer luck; I'm not sure if a traveler threw them into the river or if they naturally planted themselves in the Nile; they are a rare sight to see. The seashell necklace you wear around your neck is the same shell as mine, although I don't need it to breathe underwater as my body is built to naturally do so.

My necklace was gifted to me by one of my many past lovers; they wanted to convey their feelings to me in a form of a gift. I was unable to return their feelings back to them, and it resulted in my death. I am holding onto it in hopes of being able to return it to them to apologize for my prior misdeeds; this is why I always wear this heavy accessory. I hope that, one day, someone who knows them will recognize this item and approach me regarding them. Perhaps I am cursed by my own guilt to forever wear this heavy item around my neck. It certainly does serve as an important reminder for me.

I know that you didn't point this out when you asked me about what I'm wearing, and I definitely don't blame you as all of this gold is probably very distracting, but this yellow sash that I wear on my torso is another item from home. This is actually my sibling's sash; she would always wear it around her waist. My mother originally made this for me, but she wanted to wear something with blue in it as it was her favorite color. We exchanged them, making a vow to never separate regardless of what would happen as we were family, forever linked by blood. I suppose that vow had to ultimately be broken in the end; it was a foolish way of thinking, especially in a village where peace was never certain. Once she left home, I had realized she had left behind the sash. I have no idea why she would, as she would wear it on a daily basis, forcing it to go with any outfit she wore. Perhaps this was her way of telling me to forget her, that this would be our last time seeing each other and it was time for us to move on in life, but being as young and bold as I was, I didn't understand. I honestly still don't, even though I did end up forgetting her in the very end. It's hazy, as I don't remember if I had forgotten her on purpose or if it had just happened over time; so much time had passed us by. Regardless, I ended up taking her sash along with me; I made certain to keep the sash on me at all times in hopes that I would still, at least even just a tiny bit, remember her.

Sorry to end on such a sad note... Do you have, perhaps, any other questions? I'm more than happy to change the topic to lighten up the mood; even though each accessory here is important to me, I can assure you some of them are much happier in tune."

You shook your head no; you didn't want to press him even further, even if he had asked.

You didn't realize that he had felt all that weight on his shoulders, and was quite surprised that he's still around even till this day. You commended his efforts for trying to redeem himself, even though you've seen him painted in a bad light plenty of times in the books that you've read about his legend. Certainly, he wasn't the most moral, kindest, and most generous person you've met or have heard of, but you could see that he was trying to improve himself. You did realize that, at the end of the day, he would still be punished for his past actions; he would never get the chance to apologize. It was much too late for that, and his wishful thinking was just wishful. Perhaps it's a good thing he wouldn't be able to apologize; his curse is a curse after all, and he does deserve to receive this punishment for all of his prior misdeeds...

You reassured him that it was perfectly okay for the both of you to head on to the next topic; hopefully something happier will be murmured from his lips. Perhaps this story of chaos and greed will end on a happier note for all that were involved in this situation. One could only hope.

Masika's Home - Storage Room

Postby Yugi » Sat Sep 10, 2016 10:52 am

Masika wrote:"This room is dedicated to mainly storage. It's nothing fancy, really; it's just a nice, organized area to keep my belongings in. Even though it looks like a complete mess, I can assure you it's divided up into different sections. Because I don't have any mini storage spaces, such as closets and what not, I went ahead and decided to make one room dedicated to storing my important possessions. With that, I feel like I won't lose things all that often as everything will be confined to one room and only one room. As a child, I recall losing multiple items, such as clothes, baskets, and toys because they were always scattered across many rooms. I would often feel myself becoming tired of searching for them, ultimately giving up in my attempts to locate them once more. With this storage room, I only have one room to search. It makes me sound really lazy... Doesn't it, aha?"

As you examined the room, you noticed that it was significantly smaller than the rest of the rooms you saw when you first entered his home. You weren't sure if the room was built smaller than the rest seeing that there was a bunch of stuff crowding the room and blocking your view, but you wouldn't be surprised if it was. Most storage rooms, at least the ones you typically come across, are smaller than most living spaces in a majority of homes. The only thing you were surprised about was the fact that he had only one room dedicated to storing items; you would have thought there was closet space in the rest of the house.

Masika wrote:"This space over here to the far right is dedicated to possessions that I've taken from home.

It includes only the things that I've packed when I left my home, so it's the smallest pile that I own. It consists of mainly extra clothing I'm unable to use, primarily pants and shoes. There's also a lot of little knickknacks hidden beneath the piles of clothing; I wasn't all that knowledgeable about the world when I left, so I admittedly had no clue what to actually bring along with me. I decided to bring things that I wore and used almost on a daily basis, with a side of extras for emergency reasons. I also wanted to bring along items that would help calm me down, as leaving was indeed a big leap of change for me. I figured that, since I had zero experience of living outside of my house, I would be absolutely miserable and wanting to go back home during my journey. Those feelings did hit me fairly hard, but I remember continuously reminding myself of the reason why I left my home. I assigned certain emotions and memories to each little pointless item I brought along with me to give them some worth; when I held the item in my hand and stared at it, it helped remind me of that certain feeling that allowed me to continue on my trip."

Masika wrote:"The space to the right here is filled with items my past lovers have gifted me.

I have, surprisingly, held onto each and every piece that the deities have allowed me to have. They act as reminders of the past horrors I've committed; when the deities feel as if I am forgetting my actions, they will send down a gift that a person I had harmed had given to me, as well as the memory of that gift being received back to me. I recall myself slipping only once, truthfully; I was overly excited about my new form and the second chance the deities have presented to me. I disregarded their words and I felt myself forgetting about what lead to my transformation in the first place. The first night I had spent under the Nile River, I had to sleep in a small crevice to prevent my body from being dragged through the river by the fierce currents. I disturbingly had peaceful dreams during that first sleep. When I awoke, I found myself feeling quite heavy and pained. Gifts of gold, flowers, gems, and more were stacked upon my body, pressing me against the rigid rocks. My mind was crowded with unsavory memories, as well as large, booming voices spoken by the deities themselves that led to my head aching quite severely. They told me that I was absolutely shameful. How dare I even forget about what happened after they made it perfectly clear that I was to be punished for my wrongdoings! It felt like a never ending nightmare; it felt like I had been under pressure for weeks. This is why I am now unable to forget. No matter how hard I try now, I understand why I cannot forget my past; it is a necessary reminder for me as I am still far from being able to sincerely apologize for past actions."

Masika wrote:"The pile in the middle holds all the gifts I have received working my job as the river's guide.

I have been gifted many trinkets, ranging from clothing, jewelry, carpets, pillows, food, and much more. A lot of gifts are just luxury items, as many people know that I don't need to eat to stay alive and they believe I deserve so much for how much help I provide to them. My favorite gifts still have to be baskets of fresh fruits, although it's tied with wonderful books about the world. I still appreciate each and every gift that is bestowed upon me, especially since I feel that I don't deserve any of them. I've tried both denying and returning gifts, but in the end, they always insist that I keep them. I'm not even sure if these people know about my past, but because of them, I can continue to look towards the future and enjoy the present. Interacting with these people help me get my mind off of the past while reminding me to be considerate to everyone, regardless of who they are or might be. Their generosity is absolutely inspiring; it's amazing at how loving and appreciative these people can be. I never expect payment of any kind as it is my sworn duty to guide travelers on the Nile River, but yet they still come back with gifts in hand to give to me in exchange for my services."

You noticed that there was another separated pile in the very back of the room. You turn to face Masika and ask him what's stored in that pile. It was hard to see what exactly was stored there, but you could make out a handful of objects. Cloth, books, and more jewelry sat behind the stashes of item blocking the way to them.
Image
Masika wrote:"Ah... That would be something I like to call my personal treasure hoard. It holds many important items. If you want, we can go to the back of the room first before exploring another area?

-> Yes, explore Masika's Treasure Hoard.xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx-> No, come back to it later.

Masika's Home - Living Quarters

Postby Yugi » Sat Sep 10, 2016 10:55 am

Masika wrote:"This is my living quarters. As you can see, it's certainly my most decorated room in my home. I lke to keep it nice looking and elegant, just in case the off chance of visitors, such as you, are able to come over and socialize for a little while.

My mother had always taught me to keep the main room visitors will certainly see nice and clean looking. That way, they will feel welcomed and at home, and you can put on a show, pretending that your life isn't as ragged as it actually is. I suppose that, if my story wasn't publicized and read by almost everyone alive today, it would work and it would keep my secrets hidden. Unlike my mother, I cannot easily keep a lie, at least not anymore. The only reason why I keep this room tidy is because I like having my house clean... and this is the only room that I have been gifted furniture for."

He let out a sigh before laughing heartily to himself. It was admittedly weird to think of Masika having mortal parents; when you read tales, legends, and myths, you never really thought of the legendary figure themselves having family to call their own unless it's explicitly stated in the writing, and even then you tend to have found yourself not really being all that interested in it. Besides, often times if the legend had parents, they were legendary themselves too. For Masika, it was quite different; his parents were actual people who lived on this very land. Since Masika was real and alive, they too must have been very much real and alive, since if they weren't, Masika wouldn't be standing right before you and you wouldn't be standing right in front of him.

Masika caught you looking absolutely dazed, causing him to place a hand gently on your shoulder. He asked if you were okay and he led you down to one of the couches to sit at. You allowed him to lead you to the seemingly comfortable piece of furniture; as soon as you sat on it, you realized that it was honestly very firm and kind of uncomfortable. The cushions that covered it weren't all that much help. You asked Masika about the furniture in this room.
Image
Masika wrote:"Are you alright though? That look upon your face made me very worried; I thought you were about to pass out."

You nodded your head yes, explaining to him that you were just lost in your own thoughts. You repeated your question once again, trying to move back onto the subject of Masika's home. You craved more knowledge about the merman and his way of life.
Image
Masika wrote:"Alright... Glad to hear that you're fine. If you ever need a moment of rest, please let me know; I'm more than happy to oblige.

I'm sorry if the couch itself is uncomfortable, by the way. I saw a pained expression on your face, and I realized that you aren't really use to sitting on straw couches now, are you? The couches I have here are made in a similar fashion as my bed; all of them were handwoven by me with straw. It's an amazing feat, isn't it, aha? I still have no clue how I was able to do it, but I can assure you that it took many tries and many failures. It wasn't something that I was able to finish within a day. The straw used for these couches is apparently the strongest straw one can grow, find, and make. It was given to me by a skilled basket weaver; every time she crossed the river, she had more straw to give to me. I didn't really know what exactly to do with the straw, but I realized that I had no furniture in my house. I guess it was a stir of the moment idea when I put two and two together. I had no clue what I was doing, but it was honestly better than having nothing, right?

The cushions that are covering the straw couch were also gifts given to me by travelers who use my services. Apparently they're from a far, distance village here in Egypt; the village isn't near the Nile River, so I had no clue about its existence. The people who live in that large village are skilled craftsmen; they can make a beautiful, embroidered pillow with absolute ease. It's... not the comfiest, as I am now just realizing, but it looks very pleasing to the eye, do they not?
Perhaps I should line the couch with comfy pillows...

The table in front of us is also weaved from strong wicker. Although, I didn't craft this piece, as you can probably tell since it's much nicer looking than all the items I've created. It's a cabana styled table with a thick sheet of glass in the middle. I think it looks pretty unique; I've honestly never seen woven furniture with other materials incorporated into it. Well, besides cloth, you know? An amazing craftsman who lives in the village up stream from here was trying to get rid of his inventory as he had new items being stocked in his store. He felt that his old works were much too bland and he didn't want them to dull up his shop. He ended up gifting it to me as he couldn't find anyone to take it. Oh, and this small flower vase sitting on top of the table? I found it discarded on the Nile River's shore when I was traveling. It's pretty amazing what new things a person can find on their travels.

Actually... now that I think about it, a majority of these vases were found on the river's shoreline or just simply discarded in the river itself. It's surprising that people can just simply toss something they no longer want to the side and completely forget about it..."

Hey, why don't we go to another room? That's all that I really have for this one. C'mon, I'm pretty sure you don't want to spend all day sitting on that uncomfortable couch."

Masika's Home - Dining Hall

Postby Yugi » Sat Sep 10, 2016 10:59 am

Masika wrote:"Welcome to the dining hall. It's more of just a simple dining room, but people seem to be more impressed when I say hall... It's a fairly simple room, but that's because it only serves for a simple purpose. I don't really have any need to make it bigger as I just figured I wouldn't have anyone over for dinner, at least not anytime soon. Perhaps if the Nile River decides to dry up completely, I might be able to, but that would be a massive struggle for me as I am prone to passing out when my skin gets much too dry. Thankfully it's not fatal at all for me; it's just unnecessarily painful and I would appreciate not experiencing that pain again anytime soon..."

You glanced around the room, taking note of the furnishings inside it. Even though the room was fairly small, it had enough space to feel homely and comfortable. There were counters and shelves made out of sandstone attached to the wall; wicker baskets, both those with and without a cap, sat upon the counter tops, off of the floor. Some of them were fairly large, obviously filled with holding large amounts of food in them. Fresh fruits and vegetables can be seen poking out of the top of these baskets. To the left of the counter tops and shelves sat a firm table and four chairs. They were made of the same wicker material as the baskets were. With your thorough examinations of the room, you noticed that there weren't any appliances. Not thinking completely about it, you found yourself accidentally asking a question about the lack of appliances to Masika.
Image
Masika wrote:"Ah, appliances huh? I would certainly love them, but that's the reason why I mentioned the fact that I won't be able to host dinner parties here. I'm unable to cook anything for them.

Fire doesn't necessarily work underwater; I cannot have an oven or a stove to heat up or boil food. Besides, it would be fairly painful if I could; I don't want to accidentally end up boiling myself up like a lobster... There also is no possibility of me using electricity. Any energy powered machine used in preparation or storage of food is impossible for me to have or use. It's a shame, since I've always wanted to learn how to cook.

I honestly have no clue on how to prepare any sort of meal, snack, or dessert either. I've never cooked at all, not even when I was living with my parents. They did everything for me. If I was hungry, I ate either raw, edible food items or I depended on someone else to cook for me. Sometimes I even stole food from others, especially restaurants and other food stops in the villages I came across. I was pretty desperate as it was, and since I was dead set on my travels, I didn't have time to rest and cook anyways.

Even though I have no need for eating food in this form, I do enjoy the taste of it. Plus it helps me feel alive still, if you know what I mean? It's kind of hard to explain, as I don't think any mortal would be able to experience such a feeling. I'm able to eat literally anything, but I prefer the taste and texture of fresh fruits and vegetables. I have to eat them quickly though, as they spoil easily, which is no problem for me since my stomach is like a bottomless pit now. I get all of my fresh produce as gifts from the locals around here. They bestow me gifts of luxury items and food in hopes to encourage me to continue my job as being a guide. I would continue my occupation regardless, of course. I can't reject these items; I've tried many times, but they refuse and continue to encourage me to have them. I wouldn't want them to go to waste, so I go ahead and use them to my absolute best.

It would be neat to be able to make a home cook meal for myself and a few others. I just don't see it happening anytime soon, sadly.

Let's go ahead and explore another room, alright?"

Masika's Home - Treasure Hoard

Postby Yugi » Sat Sep 10, 2016 11:01 am

After a little while of careful swimming and tailing Masika across the storage room, you came across only a handful of items. The items in storage that surrounded it made it look so much bigger; Masika told you that the extra items that weren't part of his treasure hoard were actually a mishmash of items from the gift pile and reminder pile. You saw only four objects sit in front of you, and each one of these objects were gently and strategically placed on a flat surface. Everything was so still and perfect, and you didn't want to accidentally upset the large pile. You kept your hands to yourself in fear of clumsy actions accidentally happening.

Masika's sisters items

Masika wrote:"This is my sister's original sash. She gave this sash to me when we were kids; she wanted mine, which had blue orbs in place of the pale yellow ones on it. The reason being was because she wanted something that was a part of me, since we always believed that we were the same person. We were the two faces of the same coin, two halves that made a whole. When we were together, whether we were playing, traveling, talking, or whatever, we were always happy and content with life."

Masika wrote:"And these are my sister's beads. As you can see, mines are blue and hers are yellow. This is due to the colors on our pelt; you see, she was my twin, and my mother always struggled telling us apart due to how similar we looked to each other. The only difference was the blue and the yellow spots on our bodies; so in order to have a larger, more distinguishable difference on us, she crafted us both the beads and the sash. It turned out that she glimpsed solely at our heads, as she didn't realize that we switched sashes as children. If she did notice, she was perfectly fine with it. My sister only had one string of beads, as she was much more careful with her headpiece than I was as a kid. I was kind of reckless, always getting into trouble, while she was more cautious. Plus, she always found that the beads irritated her scalp, and she would try her best to wear the least number of beads possible. I, on the other hand, loved how they felt against my hair, as they comforted me often when necessary. If I didn't wear these beads, I felt anxious, and so my sister would have to lend me hers. This is the sole reason why she continued to wear them, even though she hated them; she didn't want me to break down in tears because of anxiety, so she carried them for me to have in case I had forgotten mine or if mine's broke during a trip on the town."

Neph's Items

Masika wrote:"This was a letter that the deities gave me one night. Folded inside is a necklace that she gave me when we dated each other. I was bestowed this necklace by the deities as a constant reminder of what I had done to poor Neph, as well as other souls during my time alive. I keep her stuff in a pile next to my sister's as they are both very important to me.

The words in the letter are words that she first murmured to me when I announced my love for her. They are now word burned into my mind's memory; every waking moment, I see and hear them constantly. The letter reads as follows:

Thank you Masika... I guess the deities up above do keep their promises.

xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx- Neph

Neph, a nickname I gave to her when I first met, was a very sweet girl. She was the first one that I tricked. I abused her kindness and generosity; she was the person who saved me from death when I collapsed onto the shoreline of the village. She rushed me into her own house to tend to me and nurse me back to full health. I want to say that I did feel feelings for her, but alas I cannot recall if I did. My actions certainly showed otherwise, as she was the first heart I broke. She was the one who asked the deities to punish me in some way or another, or so that's what I heard. She also advertised my cruelty to the other villagers, trying to keep them away from me. In the end, no one listened to her, except for others who had experienced a similar heartbreak..."

Tears swelled in Masika's eyes as he talked about it. You tried your best to console him; you placed a hand on his back and looked at him carefully, trying to see if he was alright. He soon noticed your concern, trying his best to wipe away the tears that had built up in the sides of his blue eyes.

Masika's Home - Daily Schedule

Postby Yugi » Sat Sep 10, 2016 11:15 am

While Masika was taking a break and allowing you to search around his room, you were able to find two sheets of water damaged paper; both of them listed times and events. One was titled "Personal Schedule" while the other page was called "Boat Schedule." You investigated both sheets of paper, intrigued at what his usual schedule was. Masika didn't mind the intrusion; in fact, he was visibly happy still to see someone so interested in his life. On further inspection, you realized that the boat schedule list was written in a foreign language. It wasn't one that you came across before, or at least not that often.

Personal Schedule
5:00 AM
Wake up; get dressed.
5:30 AM
If there's any food, prepare and eat.
Continue to get ready for the day.
6:00 AM
Head out of my home to do work.
10:00 AM
Take a break and chat with locals.
12:00 PM
Take a lunch break; usually with
my friendly merchant friend.
After that go back to work.
5:00 PM
Head back home to store gifts.
Return to work afterwards.
6:00 PM
Dinner break with merchant
once again; return to work after.
9:00 PM
Come back home for certain for
that day. Rest and relax; groom.
10:00 PM
Sleep; retire for the night.

Boat Schedule
6:10 - 7:10 AM - Town A

7:40 - 8:40 AM - Town B

9:10 - 9:45 AM - Town C

12:30 - 1:30 PM - Town D

2:00 - 3:00 PM - Town D

3:30 - 4:30 PM - Town C

5:30 - 6:00 PM - Town D

7:00 - 8:00 PM - Town B

8:10 - 9:00 PM - Town A

Even though you couldn't make out the towns' names, the same four groupings of letters appeared on the paper. It seemed that he only visited four different villages in a day. It appears that he sticks around in a town for a little while to see if there's anyone in need of being taken somewhere. You begin to infer that the four villages listed are more than likely big villages located on the Nile; maybe merchants and what not travel to these city-like villages in hopes of catching a ride?

It certainly did appear that he liked the forth town, the one you labeled as Town D in your own mind. Comparing it to the schedule of his personal life, perhaps you were just in Town D. You met his close friend who works as a merchant, and apparently, according to this other paper, he converses with her quite often. You were amazed that he had such a thorough schedule at hand, and you were even more amazed that many people actively connected with him. You were kind of jealous and put off that the merchant you had spoke to earlier had a relationship with him before you; you wanted to be the one to discover Masika's existence; you wanted to be the one who proved that he was more than just a legendary myth. But alas, it was no use to become upset or discouraged; you are able to experience interacting with him first hand, something that many won't be able to do.
