Why I Want Her
XiaoMao means little cat in Chinese. I have a friend who is Chinese, and he is very dear to me. One time he found out I had a lucky cat made (and hand-painted) in China and he thought it was cute that I was so fond of it. He also knew my obsession with cats, and the fact that I had such a strong affinity to them. So, he told me from now on instead of Kitten he would call me XiaoMao, which means Little Cat in Chinese. I remember being so happy, it's such a cute little name. Since then my Lucky Cat has been even more special and precious to me. Whenever I am feeling sad or down, I can hold it and it makes me think of my best friend. Sadly, I barely get to see him nowadays, since he lives far away, and doesn't play the same online games as I do anymore, but I am hoping to get to visit with him really soon. This mink has similar colors to that of my lucky cat, and even before I knew Sata based it off of one I felt drawn to it. See, my spiritual brother is already re-enlisted (he was retired from the army) and is off fighting in the Middle East. The worst part of it is, since we aren't blood-related, if something happens to him I may never know. That scares me, just like it scares me a bit that my best friend, the one who gave me this nickname, wants to join the military. I don't want him to go but I have to support him because I love him and care about him but at the same time I am terrified. What if something were to happen while he is gone and I move or change cells or get locked out of my e-mail and he is unable to contact me on his return? Or the same thing as with my brother - if something happens to him, I will never find out...that is why I hold on tight to my lucky cat every night and make a wish that both remain safe. And that is also why I would like this little one - I know luck doesn't really exist but there is always that part of me that whispers It can't hurt can it?
Her Story
In the story in my head, XiaoMao is my pet, and she watches over me and helps me get through the struggles I face everyday, often just by being there. Here is an excerpt, if you will.
Kit stirred in her sleep, restless as always, and a soft groan escaped her lips. XiaoMao was laying next to Kit's head on her pillow, and she raised her head and frowned in concern. It seemed it was one of those nights for her. Kit had fibromyalgia you see, and it often interrupted her sleep, sometimes even to the point of waking her up. Those times Kit would then lie awake for a long time, sometimes even hours, unable to get back to sleep no matter how much she wanted to. Other times the pain and achiness would be so bad it occupied Kit's entire mind, leaving her unable to get to sleep in the first place.
XiaoMao shook her head sadly. There was so much Kit loved to do. She played Maplestory when she could, she attended college for her teaching degree, she tended the Fenxii's and Snakeling's at their respective centers, she worked part-time to full-time at Subway, she was part-time staff at Mimics and also volunteered at several other places run by her friends when she could...and she did all this through her pain, trying not to let it stop her from doing what she wanted. Sometimes the pain won, and those days Kit would collapse and it was a struggle just to wake her up long enough to get some food down her throat.
Luckily they had discovered something about XiaoMao's way of communication. If she used the right frequency of her species' talk, it soothed the burning in Kit's body, allowing her to at least sleep through the night without waking, even if it didn't take away the pain. Without making a sound that humans could hear, XiaoMao began to emit those soundwaves, and was happy to see Kit relax and settle into a deeper sleep. And so XiaoMao would continue to make those sounds throughout the night, allowing her new friend and owner to sleep in peace, the only small thing she could do for her.
Obviously, XiaoMao is a fictional character, and much of what I mention in this story is an edited version of real life (obviously the Fenxii center isn't real, but it is there), but I just wanted to state that I do have Fibro, and everything I talk about in this story in regards to that is true, and is what I deal with everyday. A bit of a sneak peek into my mind for you guys.
Her Personality
Gentle and caring, she has many of the qualities needed to be a nurse or a mother. She is very supportive and extremely empathic, understanding other people's emotions and wanting to help whenever she can. She never asks for anything for herself - the happiness of others inspires happiness in herself. She likes to be with others and socialize, but she also enjoys spending time just with her owner.
I did a Jung-Myers personality test and answered as XiaoMao would answer, given the personality she has in my head.

Write an intro for this Mink
Kit slumped into one of the plush comfy chairs scattered around the small office-type area of the Mink's adoption agency. With a small smile she gladly took the cup of warm cocoa offered by Bel, one of her best friends. Sipping quietly at the cocoa for a few moments, Kit sighed and closed her eyes. It had been a long hard day at Subway, and she ached from head to toe. She had run out of her Fibro meds two nights ago and the Pharmacy hadn't been able to get them in yet. Plus they had gotten crushed at lunch rush so nothing that was supposed to be done got done. She opened her eyes and smiled up at Bel. "How did you know that was just what I needed?"
Bel smiled back and laughed. "On the phone you sounded worn ragged, so I just guessed. You look worse then you sounded though. Tough day?"
Kit shook her head. "To say that would be an understatement. I just needed some time to relax and I'm glad you let me come over."
"It's okay, we've been low-key today. Though I have some news you may want to here, we got a new Mink in and she is gorgeous! I think she will definitely be able to cheer you up. Finish your cocoa and then we can go see her."
Kit sat up a little straighter and drank her cocoa with a bit more energy. She always loved seeing new Minks come in! Bel did know just how to make her day better - that was probably why she was one of Kit's best friends. Once she finished her cocoa she sat the cup on a small table next to the chair and stood. "Okay, lead the way, oh beloved one," she said teasingly, and they both laughed.
Kit followed Bel out the back and they entered the adoption area. Each adoption pen was a sizable metal-wired enclosure with grassy floors and scattered tree branches, toys, and treats. There was food and water in every enclosure and aside from the small climbing branches there was one larger tree in each pen for the Minks to climb, live, and sleep in comfort while they awaited their new homes. Bel spared no expense when it came to the comfort of her little ones. Bel stopped in front of a cage marked with the number "2" and whistled. Not a loud piercing whistle, just a soft low one that called the attention of those nearby.
The Mink that answered that call caused Kit to catch her breath. She was just beautiful, and Kit knew instantly that she wanted to adopt her. She knelt down and slipped one hand through the holes in the wire of the cage, letting the Mink come over to sniff her hand. Once Kit was sure that the little one wouldn't run away she began to scratch between her ears.
"Sata found her and brought her in." Bel spoke softly, so as not to startle or scare away the little girl. "She is special, so I am holding special adoptions for her. I have the form if you want I can give it to you. They are due back on the 19th."
As the Mink enjoyed the scratches, Kit looked up at Bel. "Yes, please. I want to take her home." She looked back down a the contented-looking Mink.
"I think we belong together."
