Name: Kamilah Marais-Tau
Name meaning: Arabic; means perfection.
Named so to match with Egyptian heritage.
Nicknames and aliases: The closest thing to
a consistent alias she has is "Firewall". It's a name,
mostly inspired by her mother, thatshe made up a
few years ago as a teenager, when she was first
starting to hack. She finds it kind of stupid now, but
it seems to have stuck. She doesn't have many
nicknames, and most of those she does are almost
never used. The most common are Kami or just
Kam.
Gender: Cis female
Sexuality: Homosexual, though not looking.
(And probably won't be any time soon.)

Likes: Technology, mathematics,
fireworks (literal sense, and the bar), cooking
Dislikes: Sports, dogs, grey (and greyscale
things), blood
Motivation: Two main goals. First, to prove
herself capable and strong, despite her weak body.
Second, to improve herself in every sense - making
herself pleasant and charming; learn as many
skills as she can.
Summary of character: A frail, weak girl
with allergies could be quite literally taken down by
throwing an onion. She compensates with a
rather impressive skill for hacking and engineering.

Ethnicity: Black (South African/Egyptian

Build: Scrawny, almost to the point of looking
malnourished.
Accessories: Kamilah finds that she doesn't really
look much better with fancy clothing on than without.
She wears goggles and protective clothing when
necessary, though.
Fur and hair: Her hair is thick, tangled, and barely
cared for; her fur's essentially the same.
Allergies: Onions. She gets mild reactions even
smelling them; eating them can be downright horrifying.
For this reason, she never eats outside anymore - there's
almost always risk of cross-contamination.
Voice: Soft; tends to talk slowly

Relationships:
Lindsay- (mostly referred to as Mother) Kami
loves and looks up to her mother, though this
doesn't mean they're particularly close. Her too-
cheerful personality, coupled with her tendency
to accidentally push Kami too far when teaching,
tends to get in the way of personal interactions.
Her love manifests more in idolisation, viewing
Lindsay as the ideal: the one Kami would be
if she was stronger, and the one she should try
to be like.
Menhit- (referred to as Mad - semi-joking mix
of "Mom" and "Dad" - or just Parent when in a bad
mood) Kamilah's relationship with their other
parent is basically the opposite of what she has
with her mother. She does respect xem, of course,
but not so much so that she views xem as so much
more than they really are. In personal, sensitive
matters, she'd definitely choose to ask Menhit for
advice; maybe it's just because she can't really see
xyr eyes, but xe seems a lot calmer and more
approachable.
Sekhmet- Their relationship is cordial, no doubt,
but not much more than that. Kamilah respects her
a little more than most people would their siblings,
thanks to Sekhmet's relatively close relationship to
Lindsay and their many shared skills. They don't
really interact much, though, except for the
occasional friendly gesture: a breakfast cooked and
packed when Sekhmet's too busy to get anything
herself, or a good word put in with people who'd
hate Kami otherwise.
Nekhbet- Of their immediate family, Kami might
like Nekhbet the most; a combination of their lower
inclination toward violence and their skill set assures
that. The two of them share a certain friendly rivalry.
Kami considers herself intelligent, even if not quite
to Nekhbet's level, so they're always competing in
mild aspects of their jobs - for example, seeing who
can solve a memory game faster.
Kiaminals in general- Kamilah isn't very close to
most of its members - she prefers civilian company,
when she has any at all. She does have a deep (and
possibly misplaced) trust in them, though, to look
out for one another, as well as herself.

Relationships, cont.
Araceli- The few times Kamilah visits the bar,
it's to find someone rather than for actual drinks,
but somehow she seems to always find herself
talking to the bartender anyway. She thinks of them
as endearing, in small doses. She'll often find a way
to excuse herself, though, before long; their biting
sarcasm grates on her.
Furfur- Depending on her mood and what he's
recently done, she switches between fear/mild disdain
and awe toward him. Given his backstory and the
rumours surrounding him, one can hardly blame her.
She doesn't know him personally, of course: at best
Murmur- Ditto with Furfur. That having been said,
though, Kami seldom interacts with her. While she
finds herself needing the information that
Furfur can give rather often, she doesn't have much
use for a criminal contact, and she'd rather stay out
of Murmur's way for non-business matters.
Free- Probably the only non-family in the
underworld that she regularly and willingly associates
with. Admittedly, she didn't even realise
Free was an assassin for some months - she'd
assumed Free just really liked making kitten puns.
They just met because Kamilah was fascinated by
her parkour as a child. They text often, for various
reasons, and sometimes meet up in real life.
Nycthemeral- One might expect Kamilah to hate
the ruler of the underworld. On the contrary: maybe
if their partner had still been alive, she'd be terrified
of them, but as it stands, she's glad to talk to them
on the few times the two cross paths. They're
rather different from the bulk of the underworld, and
she likes that.

Personality:
Most would agree that Kamilah's rather boring as a person. She's very passive, with few hobbies beyond hacking and fixing broken gadgets. Neutral and apathetic, she prefers not to take sides when faced with a choice between those she loves; she generally tries to avoid offending anyone at all, but doubly so for her friends and family. She's prone to mood swings, especially when tired or stressed, but she's an open book - even the least perceptive of Kiamaras would figure out how she's feeling. She skips when she's happy, stutters when she's nervous.

Because of this, those unaware of her family history tend to think of her as harmless - an innocent girl who'd never harm a fly. She isn't, really. Granted, you could consider her 'safer' than many of the Kiaminals, in that she doesn't care enough to harm everyone who crosses her, but she has no moral qualms with violence, nor any fear for blood or gore. It's annoying, sure, to have it on you, but not scary. She finds that there are other ways to get back at people who annoy you, anyway. She does have a sense of empathy, but she's learned to suppress it under most circumstances, despite her trade being far less hands-on than her family.

One of her biggest strengths is her patience. Kamilah can wait for years if she knows it's going to be worth it in the end, in part because she's easily satisfied and hard to bore. She'll always see a project through to the end, unless (and sometimes even if) it's blatantly clear that it's not going to pay off. She knows how to think ahead, and it's a trait that she'll always use.

She isn't fond of interacting with strangers, and values her own privacy. Afraid of being judged, she often closes herself off, hiding more secrets than she exposes. Most of these secrets... aren't really that interesting. Given how eager she is to keep them, you'd expect them to be horrifying or humiliating, but mostly it's just things like "I think Jasper from Steven Universe is really hot" or "I sometimes drink Nekhbet's coffee when she isn't looking".

Doubtless, though, Kamilah is inquisitive and perceptive, capable of impressive plans when she sets aside her biases. She thinks quickly, and knows how to manipulate the environment to her advantage.

History:
Child- Maybe Lindsay had been a little too active while carrying her, or maybe it was just bad luck; either way, Kamilah was born a rather sickly child. She fell victim to illnesses unusually often, and she was weak, despite being put through what little training one could give a baby. Quiet even in those days, it was feared that she had a disorder of some sort that prevented her even from crying.

Those fears were put to rest soon enough. She spoke little, especially to strangers, but she understood others well and could talk well enough when she had to. She proved to be a bright child, with a strong comprehension for languages.

Her homeschooling was started formally at the age of six; before this, though, she'd already been learning plenty, thanks in no small part to Sekhmet. While her logical, intellectual personality led her to learn the bulk of the curriculum relatively quickly, her poor memory and concentration skills caused her to fail the rest. She thus lagged behind her far more intelligent twin, and found herself approaching Nekhbet often for help.

She took an interest in technology in particular - which may have been somewhat annoying, at times. Until she was about ten, someone would find her about to touch an iron or take something apart every five seconds because she was curious about what it was made of. This did, if nothing else, help her understand it, at the cost of many old appliances.

Teen- It was only when Kamilah was a teenager that she was truly introduced to the "family business". She'd always been aware, albeit dimly, of what they were doing, of course, and she grew up apathetic to laws and violence, but never was she actively trying to learn their trade until then.

Though trained in self-defense, she showed neither talent nor a liking for it; her education where melee combat went amounted to "stab people, run away", and even that she had trouble with. She was fascinated by explosives, though, when she first saw Menhit preparing them; xe was happy to teach her how they worked. Her hands weren't quite delicate enough to handle them safely, though, and after almost getting her fingers blown off (thank goodness for her parent's help there) she gradually drifted from it.

She'd been learning programming for a while before this - where she came from, there wasn't much advanced formal education, but there wa plenty of information on the Internet about it. Granted, that didn't teach her everything, but she experimented and studied a lot, making several small (and frankly, boring) games.

Some criminals have heartwarming, heartbreaking, or intense stories of how they got into their trades. Kamilah, on the other hand... Kamilah met a jerk once who flirted with her when she wanted to be left alone. In absence of the ability to stab him, she wound up - with Lindsay's aid - hacking into that guy's social media accounts and posting insulting remarks. Definitely not the most majestic of starts, and she's pretty sure her mother was just desperate for her to find her niche as a Kiaminal at that point.

She would have left hacking alone after that, but thanks to her family's encouragement, she wound up drawn deeper into it. Petty things, at first, not too different from how she started, and with heavy guidance from Lindsay so she'd never make a mistake. As time passed, though, she grew bolder. Her name (well, her poorly-crafted alias) spread, thanks to - in a nutshell - ridiculously stupid publicity stunts.

Adult- It was only a few years into her adulthood that Kamilah was finally officially accepted into the Kiaminals. With her being the child of two of them, she still thinks it was never a question of whether she'd get in, but when.
